Prologue
"Kairi! Can you get the last box out of the truck?! It ain't that heavy."
Yelled a spiky-haired blond who was also carrying a box of his own, placing it in the living room.
"Got it Demyx! When you're done, help mum out with organising stuff, I have to get to school to send in the application."
After unloading the last of the boxes from the move, the red-haired girl made her way to school with all the documents for her enrolment and to get whatever books and stationery she needed for class. It was also a good time to explore the areas around her house and the route to her school. Since classes start at 10 am and end at 3 pm, there was going to be a lot of time for Kairi to hang around as compared to her previous school. The current school she was attending was a highly competitive but prestigious school with the best facilities and teachers. Apparently, her mother had connections and got her a place in this school, Radiant Garden Academy.
After having a small walk around, she made it to the school and was already blown away by the way it looked. It was so grand and huge that none of the schools she saw before came close. The moment she tried to enter the gates, a guard stopped her.
"Running a little late there, girl. It's almost 1 pm."
The guard questioned.
"Oh, I'm not a student yet. I just came to submit some documents for my registration and get a look around."
She replied.
"Ah, my mistake. Head on in. The Teacher's Offices are at the centre of the campus. Just keep going straight, follow the signs and you should be able to find it."
Kairi thanked the man for his directions and continued walking towards the centre area. As she walked, she tried not to get overwhelmed by everything she is staring at, everything looked so clean, polished and just high classed. Even the student lockers looked good, not one rusty, dirty or even a different shade of red. As the lunch break bell rang, the students were all making their way back to class, and she already felt some of the boys stare at her as she walked in the opposite direction of the swarm of students. The moment she was about to enter the centre area, she heard a loud bang and decided to check it out. It was around the corners of the lockers…
A few hours before…
A loud alarm echoed through a small room where it's sound was amplified, waking a young blond girl lying on her worktable from her slumber cranky as hell.
For fuck sake, is it already 8 am?
She thought to herself as she extended her right hand towards her phone to shut the alarm off before making her way to shower and get prepared for school.
I'm so damn tired. Shouldn't have pulled that all-nighter.
Once she got changed, she packed up her table, cleaning all the paint and organising her brushes and other tools she used for her painting.
At least it's done now. Once I give this to the client, the payment should last me for about a few weeks. Fuck it, I guess I'll take that job tonight.
The blond made her way to school. Walking to the train station, where she grabs her everyday breakfast, a nice sandwich and a bottle of ice coffee, eating while waiting for the train, and drinking the coffee as she walks to school from where she alighted. Upon arriving, she noticed that people are talking about her. Again.
"Lady misfortune is here."
"Damn it why couldn't she just skip school again. I don't want to be near her."
"Hey dude, Namine looking fine as hell today. You gonna ask her out or what."
"That bitch is here."
Those were just some of the things that were said. Since she is usually on her headphones people just assume that she can't hear them, but Namine hates loud sounds so she usually plays her music really softly, which means she hears almost everything they say. Everyday.
Don't they ever get fucking bored?
Namine thought as she proceeds to her classroom at the West Wing. The moment she arrived in her class, she was met by three girls from another class who were waiting for her to arrive. Namine tried to walk past them but they kept blocking her way. One of them knocked the headphones off her head before proceeding to tell her that she was to meet them at the South Wing when the lunch bell rings, signalling them to go back to class. Namine didn't respond and went to pick up her headphones before just shoving past them to get back to her seat at the right corner of the classroom, next to the window.
This is going to be a long day.
Once it was lunchtime. Namine went to sit alone as per usual at one of the empty tables since whenever she goes to one with people, they all leave the table or if it were some guys, they would try to hit on her. She just kept looking at the clock and wishes the time would just past quicker so she could get this over and done with. Finally, the bell rung and all students were making their way back to class. Namine being at the back of the swarm of people walking. She turned away from the West Wing and made her way to the South to meet the 3 girls. In her mind, meeting them now was better than dragging it out. Who knows what they want and what they would do if she avoided meeting now. Once she arrived at the South Wing, her hair was pulled from the back and she was tossed to a nearby locker. It was the three girls.
"Hey Namine. Do you know who I am?"
The girl in front of the other two spoke.
"No. Fucking. Clue."
Namine shot back. Prompting the girl to shove back to the locker.
Three of them. Can I even take them?
"I'm Olivia bitch and I'm only gonna say this once. Stay the fuck away from Isaac."
"Olivia Bitch. A very fitting last name."
The girl was furious and grabbed Namine by the throat.
"Very funny. Now stay the fuck away from my boyfriend or I'm going to do so much worse the next time."
"One… question. Who the fuck is Isaac?"
Namine doesn't remember the names of anyone in the school, so it was an honest question but Namine has one huge problem. Her tone sounded extremely sarcastic. Olivia had enough and took her head and slammed it into the locker, causing a dent. That wasn't the worst of it. Namine's head was bruised but there was also blood. The side of her head, above her left eye, was cut by the lock and it started to drip blood onto the floor. Namine, feeling light-headed after the impact dropped to the ground, still conscious but unable to stand as her butt hit the ground pretty hard from her legs giving way, damaging her tailbone as well.
"Oh fuck, let's get out of here girls."
The three girls sprinted away. Leaving Namine there as she tried to regain the strength to get back up. Suddenly, she heard footsteps coming towards her at a fast pace, but from the opposite direction from where the three girls ran to. She turned and tried to look with her one good eye as the other was blinded by the blood dripping down. It was a red-haired girl that she has never seen before.
"Hey, are you okay?!"
"Yeah… I'm fine. Just slightly dizzy right now."
Namine soon felt a weird sensation around her wound. As she paid closer attention she realised the girl was cleaning the blood off with her sleeves and then applying pressure to stop it from bleeding more.
"You're gonna stain that pink jacket of yours."
Namine tried to speak but it was soft and weak. She was feeling faint.
"Just shut up for a minute."
The girl spoke, continuing to apply pressure till the bleeding finally stopped and Namine felt slightly better. Namine placed her hand on the girl.
"Hey it stopped bleeding, you can let go now."
Namine tried to stand but she was still a bit too weak so it took her a while to get her balance. The girl helped her get back to her feet by grabbing hold of her left arm tight and carrying her up as well.
"Thanks for that, I'll pay you back for the jacket but I need to get back to class. You should too."
Before Namine could take a step, the girl continues to hold on and pulls her back.
"Oh no, you ain't going back to class in that condition. You can hardly walk!"
"Then what do you suggest?"
"I don't know! An infirmary maybe?!"
"And you are willing to help Lady Misfortune to get there?"
"I have no idea what you are talking about and if there is an infirmary I'm bringing you there."
Ah.. She must be new here.
"If you know what's good for you, you will leave me alone. Trust me, once you hear about me you won't even come near me."
"When the time comes I'll decide for myself."
Her response took Namine by surprise. Usually, people would just back off but she still stayed to help.
"Now let's get you some help. Can you tell me where is the infirmary?"
Namine couldn't help but chuckle a little.
"It's at the centre. On the second floor next to the Teacher's Office."
The girl grabbed the arm she was holding and placed it around the back of her neck and helped Namine walk to the infirmary. As they were climbing the stairs, Namine asked for her name.
"Name's Kairi."
"Namine."
