Hello everyone! This story is an adaptation from the story with the same name (except for the apostrophe), A Nights Echo, by Curious Calamity. The original story is in my favorite stories tab if you want to check it out, and you should check out the author's other stories too! I have gotten permission from the author to make this adaptation, so don't worry. The first six chapters will be mostly the same with just a few changes (I added X, Y, Sun, and Moon since the original story didn't have them, and more characters = more fun, sometimes). Anyways, on with the story!

The room was pitch black, the darkness seemed to swallow it entirely... That night changed our lives forever... No one expected the events that happened to happen, but they did... and they really did change our lives. Blood stained the floor, its crimson color a sharp contrast from the black surrounding it. A figure stood before the 12 bodies covering the ground. They smirked at the havoc they caused.

They pulled a knife out of the most recent victim's chest.

"You," the figure said angrily, "you made me do this!"

Crystal jolted awake, sitting up frantically, looking around the room to make sure everything was alright.

Her xatu was staring at her, unmoving. It's strange, as she doesn't remember letting it out of its Pokéball. Other than that, everything seemed fine.

She sighed in relief before collapsing onto her bed and staring at the ceiling.

'What was that?'

She shrugged, before sitting up once more, this time to glance at her alarm clock.

"9:26..." She yawned slowly before her eyes widened.

"I've overslept! Hopefully there's still time to get my research papers in!" She kicked the blankets off of herself, sending them flying to the other side of the room, before literally jumping out of her bed. She pulled on her clothes, a light blue t-shirt over a pair of jeans, while looking in the mirror.

'Good enough...'

It really wasn't anything too fancy, or not anything that was bad for a 17-year-old to wear either.

She spun around, watching her hair swish this time instead of her clothes.

She put her hair up in a ponytail instead of her usual pigtails.

'With all hope, that idiot won't know it's me...'

Swinging her bag over her shoulder, she headed out the bedroom door.

"So if I finish up the paper on the process of evolution by stones, then I could start up the papers on how a Pokémon's breeding rate is affected by the distance it had been walked and the one who hatches it." She sighed knowing what that was referring to.

'Turns out I do need him...'

Honestly, she loved her job, it was just that a certain "idiot" had to help her if she got too overwhelmed with her work. She locked her door, before looking out at the ever peaceful city. Children chased each other laughing as they played. Older couples sat outside their homes, watching the children with happy smiles on their faces.

Flowers littered the town, brightening the sometimes dull ground. At first, Crystal wasn't too excited about moving to Cherrygrove City, but now, she wouldn't change it for anything. Although, being farther away from the orphanage was a downside.

She walked away from her house, letting Archy walk beside her as they went towards Route 9, towards the dreaded New Bark Town -to Crystal mind you-.

"Hey! Crystal!" Crystal turned to see a girl running towards her, wearing the standard nurses' outfit.

"Nurse Joy? What's up?" The slightly older girl crouched over, panting a bit from the running.

"Professor Oak passed by this morning," she got up, "he wants to speak with you. I'm glad I caught up with you. I thought I'd have to go all the way to New Bark!" The nurse chimed.

"Well if I got to New Bark, then Professor Oak would probably be there!" Crystal pointed out.

"Ah, he said he'd be at Tohjo Falls today." The nurse said, a little hurt Crystal tried to embarrass her.

"Oops." Crystal said. She was the one who ended up embarrassed.

"Well, thanks for telling me, I'll be on my way now." Crystal waved and turned, continuing on her path.

She dialed the Professor on her Pokégear.

Beep!

"Hello?" The surprised face of the Professor popped onto Crystal's screen as he picked up.

"Oh, why hello Crystal. I was expecting you!" Professor Oak said excitedly.

"Yes, I got the message. What did you wish to speak to me about?" Crystal said, not being one to chit-chat.

"Oh yes, well you see, there is this place in Sinnoh. It's called the Old Chateau, I want you and the other dexholders to check it out."

"Why us?"

"Trust me we have tried everything else. There have been reports of missing people who were last known to be heading there. I have figured that since you dexholders have experience, this job would be good for you." Oak explained.

"Alright, have you told the others, or should I let them know?" Crystal asked.

"Green does, but you know him, he isn't one to be excited about working with others."

"Okay, I'll let everyone else know." Crystal bid the Professor farewell before hanging up.

Hey, did you enjoy it? I hope so. Since the first few chapters won't have much new content, they won't take long to write. I think for now I can have a schedule of updating twice a month, hopefully.
