Part Nine
Punk and Dean arrived outside Jamie Meyers New Jersey home. This is where it all began. It was on a dead end road near a lake. Punk looked towards the house next to it and knew that was where AJ thought she was realizing all of her dreams but instead became her worst nightmare. He truly did feel her pain when it came to this. He could only imagine how excited she was to buy her first home at such a young age only to be terrorized out of it.
"This place is not well kept." Dean groaned climbing through the tall grass of Jamie Meyers house and making his way to the front door.
"He's been in Chicago for months now." Punk pointed out.
"I have a feeling it wasn't well kept before that." He said using a key to unlock the door.
"Who are you?" A small voice asked from the next yard.
Punk looked over to what was AJ's house and saw a little girl on her porch looking over.
"I'm a police man." Punk told her an Dean narrowed his eyes.
"I really prefer FBI." He said to Punk.
"She's like six she doesn't know what that is." Punk whispered back.
"Is Mr. Meyers in trouble?" She asked curiously and that's when a young woman appeared.
"I'm sorry we mean no trouble she's just very inquisitive." The woman apologized nervously.
"It's alright." Punk said walking over holding up his badge. "I'm FBI."
"Oh." The woman was instantly relieved. "Is Jamie not coming back?"
"Not for a while at least." Punk said to her. "Can I ask you a few questions about him?"
"Donna, go inside and I'll meet you there." The woman told her daughter who nodded then ran inside.
"You know Jamie Meyers well?" Punk asked her.
"No. The man is awful though." She told Punk. "He wont cut his grass, he comes and goes all hours of the night and he I caught him peeking in my window one night."
"You don't say." Punk remarked folding his arms.
"My husband caught him and chased him. Claimed he knew the woman who used to live here and didn't realize she moved out." She told Punk.
"He give you trouble after that?" Punk asked her.
"He yells at my daughter for being too loud." She told him. "She's only a kid and wants to be his friend."
"It's best she's not his friend." Punk insisted.
"I can see that but she just wants to be nice to everyone." She told him. "Gets that from her father not me. I hate that man he gives off the worst vibe. I hope he never comes back."
"If you or your husband can think of anything else give me a call." He said passing her his card.
"What did he do?" She asked before Punk walked away.
"He's away on stalking right now." He told her.
"April Mendez, right?" She asked and Punk didn't say anything. "She sold us the house in a hurry. Wasn't even listed and sold it for a lot less than it was worth. She seemed scared and didn't want to sell us the house when she saw we had a daughter."
"She tell you why?" He asked.
"She said the neighbor was a creep." She told Punk simply. "But I have a lot of family here and believe me there are creepy people all over. Had to beg her to sell it to us at that price. I hopes she's alright."
"She is." Punk confirmed and she nodded. "Thanks for your time."
Punk walked into the modest house and went in search of Dean.
"What do you have?" Punk asked walking up the stairs and finding him in the bedroom.
"Man is a psychopath." Dean spat. "Not one fucking television."
"What else." Punk said to him and Dean just looked around.
"Found some boxes in the closet. Doesn't feel like shoes." He said pointing to the bed where he left them.
Punk opened one box and it was clearly an 'April' box. Had her photo, a piece of her mail, a pair of underwear, perfume that he knew she wore, a list of addresses as well.
"I wonder whose addresses those are." Dean said to him.
"First one is her parents house and second is Celeste's." Punk told him closing the box. "I'm sure the others were places April spent time probably a boyfriends house and work."
"This isn't April." Dean said opening the other box.
"No it is not." Punk said surprised picking up the picture. It was a young girl, probably 17 and it was a senior high school photo. There were similar items in this box as well including mail with a name on it.
"I'll send the name to Kofi." Dean told him taking a picture of the information. "Another stalking victim. Wonder how she escaped him."
"Yea." Punk said curiously. "I wonder if April knows her."
"We'll ask her." Dean said looking around more.
He was opening drawers and looking behind pictures, anywhere and everywhere.
Punk walked out of the bedroom and started to inspect the other rooms. He opened another room and it was empty other than some work supplies, at least at first glance it's work supplies. Punk saw a shovel, rope, taser, condoms, torch, chains, axe.
"Whoa." Dean remarked. "Torture chamber."
"Supplies to bury a body." Punk corrected.
"AJ came to Chicago just in time." Dean said to him.
"Anything in here that can tie him to the fire?" Punk asked.
"Not at first glance but I'll call a local team to come in search properly." Dean said to him.
"Kofi run that name yet?" Punk asked him.
"He's interviewing somebody, it's going to be a few hours." He told Punk who nodded.
"This place has some bad fucking energy." Punk said looking out the window and it was a clear view to AJ's yard.
"If only the walls could talk." Dean said to him.
A few hours later Punk met up with AJ at the hotel they were staying in and he was surprised to see her.
"I thought you'd be with your parents most of the day." Punk greeted.
"I'll see them tomorrow." She said applying lipstick and Punk eyed her from behind as she leaned over to look in the mirror. She was wearing a short black jumper that would keep her cool during this heat but also drive him crazy.
"Going somewhere?" Punk asked her.
"Yes and I'm hoping you'll join me." She said turning to him. "Going to a bar with Celeste."
"I'm not a bar person." Punk smirked removing his shoes.
"You're at a bar almost every night and I hang out with you and your friends." She reminded him.
"I'll go." He compromised instantly and she smiled happily. "I have to shower first."
"Ok." She said looking back at the mirror.
"Babe." He stopped just short of going into the bathroom and she looked back at him again.
"Yea?" She asked and saw him pull out his phone and show him a picture.
"You know this woman?" He asked holding up a picture of the other woman he found in Jamie's house.
"Oh wow. Where did you find this?" She asked taking the phone from him and squinting her eyes at it.
"You know her?" Punk asked
"Not personally. She was a few years older than me. I think her name was Amanda." AJ said thinking about it. "She went missing it was huge. I mean we're a pretty small town and that kind of stuff wasn't super common."
"No kidding." He said trying to absorb the information.
"I was in middle school and I'm pretty sure she was a junior in high school." AJ told him. "I can't remember her last name but her picture is still hanging up around town. It's been about 15 years now but it's still unsolved."
"Any suspects?" He asked her.
"I was so young Phil I can't remember." AJ said trying to remember. "I don't think so? She was pretty popular around town like everyone adored her. She worked at the local movie theater and she went missing leaving work one night. No one was with her, everyone was accounted for. I think the theory is out of towners passing through took her. Where did you see that picture?"
"Jamie Meyers bedroom." Punk informed her.
"Wow how random." She said to him.
"If you're about your age difference from her then that would make her around the same age as Jamie." Punk said to her.
"You think Jamie killed her?" AJ asked stunned.
"I don't know. But he has a whole little area dedicated to two people and that's her and you." He told her.
"The more and more you uncover about him the more relieved I am that's he's in lock up." She told him. "I don't know what I'm going to do when he's released."
"We'll worry about that if the time comes." He said to her then walked into the bathroom.
Punk loved seeing AJ in her element. Her hometown, her close friends, everyone kind of knew each other and AJ was having a great time. Most men wouldn't want to sit at dive bar not drinking and basically socializing with strangers but he loved seeing AJ so happy and would stay the entire night if she wanted.
"Can I get you guys another drink?" Celeste offered standing up.
"I've got it." AJ said standing up. "Soda?" She asked Punk who just nodded and watched her head over to the bar.
"She's happy." Celeste noted.
"She deserves it." Punk agreed.
"So why do you look so upset?" Celeste asked him.
"I don't know. You think she really wants to stay in Chicago or am I pressuring her?" Punk asked her and Celeste had to smile at the concern.
"You are a big part of her staying in Chicago I know that for sure. But the main reason is the job and new opportunity. Whether you were with her or not she'd probably stay there and she is so excited about it." Celeste assured him. "She hasn't shut up about her new apartment and new office."
"Good." Punk felt a little more relieved and looked over to AJ who was talking to some guy at the bar.
"Ugh." Celeste groaned turning around.
"Who is that?" Punk asked.
"That's Primo." Celeste told him. "That was AJ's boyfriend at the start of this Jamie stuff. He left her high and dry and to fend for herself."
"Classy." Punk remarked watching the interaction then stood up when he saw Primo wouldn't let AJ walk over with their drinks.
"Oh, good." AJ said relieved. "Phil I want you to meet Primo."
"How's it going?" Punk asked and Primo eyed him head to toe. "Don't eye me that and think we're going to fight. I know your history, you're a bitch."
"Really, AJ?" Primo asked her then looked at Punk. "Me leaving had nothing to do with Jamie."
"Then why are you here now?" Punk asked him calmly.
"This is my hangout." Primo remarked annoyed. "I was just saying hi."
"Hi." Punk gave him a sarcastic greeting then placed his hand on AJ's lower back and lead her away.
"That took too long." Celeste said taking her drink from AJ.
"You know him, always with the dramatics." AJ remarked sitting back down next to Punk. "Thank you for coming tonight." She said kissing his chin.
"You know I'd be go anywhere you asked." He said to her taking his soda.
"We'll leave in a few minutes." She told him.
"We don't have to." He said to her. "I like watching you have a good time."
"I think we could have a better time at the hotel." She whispered and reached between his legs under the table.
"Yea I mean we can go whenever." He remarked chugging his drink.
Back at the hotel AJ's short jumper was barely off of her before they were connected. Punk was completely naked but that was thanks to AJ flexibility. Punk wasn't willing to slow down to remove more of her clothing.
"God damn." AJ moaned as Punk moved as quickly as he could.
AJ was no match for his thrusts or against his weight. He was so careful with her yet managed to give it to her just the way she needed tonight. He knew her body so well and they had only known each other a short amount of time.
"Hey!" Dean yelled knocking on their door.
AJ's eyes shot open but Punk was too engrossed in what he was doing and that as desperately searching for his release deep inside of her.
"Babe." AJ moaned rolling her eyes to the back of her head as he kissed her neck now and sucked on her pulse point. "Its-" She tried to get out. "God!" She screamed as she climaxed and he kept moving as hard as he could without hurting or breaking her for that matter.
"Hello!" Dean yelled knocking again.
"Go away!" Punk yelled back towards the door without slowing down for even a second.
"You're so close." AJ moaned adjusting herself a bit.
"So fucking close." He groaned back.
"It's important!" Dean yelled knocking on the door again.
Punk let out a frustrated sound and moved quicker then before which AJ wasn't even sure was possibly but as he finally found his release she was lost in another climax and let out such a satisfying scream that Punk wanted to go all over again and make her make that sound all night.
"Hello!" Dean yelled knocking again.
"I'm coming!" Punk yelled back.
"Yes you are." AJ grinned as she watched him throw on a pair of his sweats. He was about to walk to the door but stopped and stood over her. "What?" She asked with a satisfied smile.
"You need to move." He told her. "I can't let Dean in here with you looking like that."
AJ looked down and saw her jumpsuit was all stretched and moved around where she was hanging out in not great places.
"I can't move." She replied adjusting her top to cover her breasts again.
"Try to." Punk said pulling the clothing down to cover below her waist. "Come on, Ape." He sighed pulling her up the bed so she wasn't dangling off the edge anymore.
"Don't let him in." AJ said to him. "I want to do this again."
"Again?" He asked and she nodded.
"Unless you're too tired-" AJ remarked.
"No, no." He assured her with a shit eating grin. "You stay just like that." He instructed her and ran to the door and opened it on a crack.
"About fucking time." Dean said going to walk in but Punk held his arm up.
"What do you need?" Punk asked.
"Really? You two ever come up for air?" Dean asked disgusted.
"What's so important?" Punk asked.
"We have to go to Jamies." Dean told him and Punks face fell.
"You're shitting me." Punk hoped.
"No. CSU wanted to see the agents on the case." Dean said to him and he never saw Punk look so disappointed. "What's the matter? You need to like finish? I can wait 30 seconds."
Punk just slammed the door in Dean's face then walked back over to the bed and saw AJ waiting for him.
"You have to go?" AJ asked and he nodded sadly. "I'll be here when you get back."
"But you'll be sleeping." He practically whined getting dressed.
"You can wake me." She offered.
"I wouldn't wake you." He sighed looking down at her. "No, I have to work." He said to himself and shook his head causing her to let out a laugh. "Just try to stay awake? I shouldn't be that long."
"Where are you going?" She asked turning on the TV.
"Fucking Jamies house." He said annoyed.
"I'll be waiting." She promised.
"Really?" He asked and she nodded. He leaned over and gave her a short but still deep kiss then headed out the door.
AJ flicked the channels when she heard knocking and had to laugh, she saw Punk's hotel key was still on the table. He was in such a rush to leave so he could get back.
"You really-" She began as she opened the door but froze when she saw Jamie Meyers who immediately put his hand over her mouth to stifle her screams and kicked the door closed behind him.
Punk and Dean arrived at Jamie's house and saw there were a lot more officers at the house.
"What's going on?" Dean asked the first officer her saw.
"We found some evidence in the house." He told Dean.
"No shit." Dean remarked annoyed. "What kind of evidence?"
"Amanda Dowsers purse." He told them.
"That's the picture we found, right? The girl who has been missing for 15 years out here?" Punk asked and the officer nodded. "We want to search as much as we can before he gets back and and holds us up or has a chance to hide something."
"You've got six months." Dean reminded him.
"He's in town." The officer told him and Dean was in shock.
"No, we must be talking about two different people." Dean insisted. "Jamie Meyers is in county jail."
"Jamie Meyers was released two days ago." The officer corrected. "County overcrowding and some sort of loophole."
"You're saying Jamie Meyers is here in town?" Punk asked him growing angry.
"Yea, he pulled up here a few hours ago. I thought you would know." The officer said to them.
"So Jamie was here, saw you're about to bust him on a big murder charge and you didn't think to tell us?" Dean asked getting in the officers face.
"April." Punk said to Dean then ran back to the car.
In the hotel room Jamie had tossed AJ onto the bed and she tried to crawl away but he crawled over.
"I thought they would have told you by now that I was out." Jamie hissed reaching for under her jumper but AJ's hands fought his away.
"Get off me!" AJ screamed.
"What were you even doing in here with him!" Jamie yelled and hit her hard across the face. "Stop fighting me!"
"Leave me alone!" AJ cried. "I just want you to go away."
"I'm not leaving you alone!" He yelled as he fought off her kicks and squirming. "You're going to make me kill you first?" He asked wrapping his hands around her throat catching her by surprise. "Shhh." He whispered to her as her eyes widened and face began to change color. "Good girl." He smiled looking down at her. "You're so beautiful." He said kissing her now slightly blue cheek.
"AJ! Open the door!" Punk yelled knocking at the door that he forgot his key to.
"Shhh." Jamie told AJ who felt herself losing almost all life.
The door was kicked in but Jamie kept his hands around her throat as Dean and Punk made their way in with local PD behind them.
"Stop!" Dean yelled trying to pry Jamie off of AJ who was as stiff as a board.
Punk literally pried his fingers off of AJ's throat who let out a gasp of breath as she fell off the bed.
"You ok?" Punk asked frantically as she held her throat and coughed for air. "Get me a medic!"
"You're going away long time now." Dean informed Jamie as he cuffed him on the floor.
Jamie didn't say a word but just made eye contact with AJ which Punk caught.
"Get him the fuck out of here!" Punk ordered pointing to the door then looked back at AJ. "Look at me, look at me." He instructed and her nearly blood shot eyes met his and he examined her neck. "Can you talk?" He asked and she just shook her head. "Ok, stay calm. Medic!" Punk yelled again.
In the hospital AJ was laying up in bed when Punk walked into the room.
"Doc says you're going to be ok." Punk said passing her a cup of ice.
"Good." AJ rasped out.
"I'm sorry. I didn't get the call he was out." He told her and she gave him a sympathetic look.
"You have nothing to be sorry for." She said to him holding back tears. "It's just been a long night."
"Only positive of tonight is that Jamie is going away for a very long time. And it looks like they might have found a connection to Amanda Dowser." Punk told her.
"Good. Her family deserves closure." AJ sniffled and Punk frowned as he sat on the edge of the bed.
"Ape." He smiled a bit. "It's going to be ok for real. Easy sailing from here on out."
"I don't know about that." She said shaking her head and he narrowed his eyes.
"April." Punk began and she met his eyes. "If he did something before I got there-"
"No." She said shaking her head. "It was like you were gone only 10 minutes."
"I can't get a read on you." He admitted confused.
"Your FBI skills don't work on me?" She teased through tears. "Am I kryptonite?"
"You make me feel too good for that." He assured her and tilted his head. "Can I get you anything? Your parents are out there-"
"No." AJ said shaking her head. "I'm waiting for the doctor to come back."
"Ms. Mendez." The doctor greeted and Punk stood up.
"Were there complications?" Punk asked him.
"No. But I do need to examine the bruising around her throat a bit more in depth." The female doctor told him.
"Can you tell my parents I'm ok?" She asked Punk. "Actually tell them to go home and rest. I'll see them before I leave tomorrow."
"Ok." Punk said kissing the top of her head. "I'll be right outside." He said eyeing her then the doctor before leaving.
"Thank you for your discretion." AJ said to her.
"No problem." The doctor smiled. "Your tests came back good and thankfully your attack tonight didn't impact your pregnancy."
"Good." AJ said cleaning her eyes.
"I take it this wasn't a planned pregnancy." The doctor noted.
"No." AJ practically laughed. "I didn't even know I was pregnant and I barely know my boyfriend. We've been dating for like two months."
"You have options, April." The doctor reminded her.
"I'm just really overwhelmed and when I'm overwhelmed I talk to him but I can't because I don't know what he'll say." AJ admitted crying.
"And you did have a rough night." The doctor frowned. "Take your time. Absorb the information for yourself first."
"How far along am I?" AJ asked looking up at her.
"About four weeks." She told AJ. "Do you use protection?"
"No." AJ admitted annoyed with herself. "We haven't been very careful."
"Here." The doctor said passing her pamphlet. "Do some research and I know you're going back to Chicago but you can always call me to consult."
"Thank you." AJ said to her looking at it.
"Can I get you anything?" The doctor asked.
"I'm just not sure what I did wrong in my life." AJ admitted shaking her head. "I spent years with a stalker controlling me and keeping me hidden. Now the very night I get rid of him I'm tied down to a new person and a guy who don't get me wrong- has been nothing short of amazing- but I still barely know him. And now my life will revolve around this baby. My career gets pushed back again."
"You have options." The Doctor again reminded AJ. "You had a very stressful night though I suggest you get some rest."
"Can I go home?" She asked.
"Yea you can." She said giving AJ a sad smile. "You're going to be ok." She assured AJ.
"Yea, that's what everyone keeps telling me." AJ forced out climbing out of the bed.
