SHEA
Did you ever have one of those life changing moments when you couldn't tell if it was leading you to something better because you were so preoccupied with what was going on? That was me a few months ago when my best friend in the world Cooper Anderson died unexpectedly in an accident. I adopted his 5 year old daughter, Karen Alexandra. My social worker/counsellor Finn Hudson who is now a dear friend helped me with the adoption and deal with my feelings of grief surrounding Cooper's death. After the adoption was final Karen and I are moving back to my home town of Mesa, Arizona. I asked Blaine to register her at the Heritage Progressive Elementary School.
BLAINE
Today I am picking up my friend Shea and Karen. I arrived at Cactus View International Airport and waited for their plane to land. I get lost in memories of Cooper and Karen. I so lost in my thoughts that I miss the announcement that they have landed. I am brought out of my thoughts by a familiar voice yelling "UNCLE BLAINE!!!" as Karen runs towards me. I pick her up, as Ido I catch a glimpse of Shea trying not to cry.
"Hey Blaine, you okay? You looked like you were a thousand miles away." Shea asked me.
Still caring Karen, I give Shea a hug as well. "Yeah I'm ok, just lost in some memories of Cooper. How was your flight?"
"I totally get that; the flight was good. This little one slept most of the time after the plane took off. We are happy to see you. We just have to get our luggage but after that we are good to go."
Directing my attention to Karen I say, "How are you little lady? May, you have grown since I saw last you." Karen just grins and gives a thumbs up. (Karen hadn't spoken much since her daddy died.)
When we got to my car, I put Karen in the booster seat, then put their bags in the trunk. As We leave, Shea closed her eyes and exhaled for probably the first time in a while. I looked back at Karen who was enthralled at the scenery that was going by. At times she grins, points and other times she gets a look on her face as she concentrates to figure something out. A tear falls from my eye as I think about what they have been through. I am so glad Shea decided to move back to Arizona to be mine and Wes's Medical Assistant. I just know that this is going to be the beginning of the lighter side things. We pull into the driveway of our new home.
The house was a single level, three bed, two bath bungalow. The front yard, was adorned with tall palm trees and a large back yard with a gated pool. I turned off the car ,grabbed the bags as Shea helped Kare-bear out of the car.
Standing on the deck of the house was my love. That's when Kare-bear ran to Kurt.
"Uncle Kurtie...!!!!!!!!" She yelled as she jumped into his arms.
