"May, I swear, once I win this tournament, I will tell you exactly how I feel about you."
The sun was setting, allowing its warm orange light to fill May's room. The room was so quiet that one could hear the deep and excited breaths that came from Misty's mouth. Her head faced down in order to hide the hot and red nature of her face to the one she loved, but her body's shivering gave that nervousness away anyways. Her heart beat so hard and fast it felt like it could leap out of her mouth.
"So please," Misty said, struggling to keep her voice steady. "Until then, will you wait for me?"
"Yeah, sure." May replied without even looking up, too focused on the book she was reading. "Go ahead."
Misty stormed out of that room with great determination. She was going to win that tournament no matter what, and nothing was going to stop her!
Of course, she had to train if she was going to win. Her training partner was usually Iris, who wasn't only the strongest but also enjoyed beating her Pokémon up as much as possible. Misty never understood why, she was sure she heard Iris scream something about Serena's love or something but she never paid much attention to her rants. She did know that it helped her Pokémon increase their endurance, so she didn't care either way.
Unfortunately, Iris wasn't in her room. Misty had forgotten, but Iris had gone to a tournament of her own that day. So it looked like she had to find someone else.
The next best option was Dawn. She didn't consider herself much of a fighter, and her attacks were definitely more stylish than practical, but she could surprise you if you underestimated her. She even caught a Haxorus recently, which would certainly help her train. Unfortunately, she was also out, watching the tournament Iris went to.
"Something wrong?" Serena walked up to Misty with some concern. "You seem worried."
"I'm okay," Misty replied. "I just need someone to train with for my tournament tomorrow."
"I'll be willing to help you."
"Are you sure?" The proposition certainly surprised her. After all, out of everyone in the building, Serena was the least suited for battle. Sometimes it seemed like she avoided it whenever possible.
"Of course!" Despite that, Serena seemed determined to do it anyways. "I mean, I would do absolutely anything if it would help my knight in shining armor feel happy."
Knight in shining armor? What did she mean by that? Misty racked her brain trying to find an explanation, eventually realizing it was probably some new slang for good friend she never heard of.
"Alright then," Misty said, pumped up. "Let's do this then."
Serena followed Misty outside, practically in a daze with how excited she was to do this.
Minutes later she was still in a daze, but this time due to the shock of seeing the fate her Pokémon suffered.
But that was that. Soon enough it was the next day, and Misty was prepared to fight in the tournament. She only had one problem, as her first opponent was Elesa, a master of electric type Pokémon.
Misty was scared. Not only was her opponent very skilled, she specialized in electric types, the weakness of her water types. But when she thought about the confession she had to make, the power of her love pushed her through the fight. So against all odds, she somehow pushed through and won.
Next was Erika. Erika trained grass types, another type that was strong against Misty's water types. Again it looked like she could fall, but the power of love allowed her to win.
For the grand finals, she had to face Flannery. She was known for using fire type Pokémon, which were weak to Misty's water types. For once, it seemed like she had the edge...
Seemed like the power of love wasn't on Misty's side there.
