Maggie was sitting at a desk in the JOC going through their current case file, she was drawn from her thoughts and what she was reading when she heard a voice that she was sure she recognised asking if Jubal was around. Maggie lifted her head and looked towards the door of the JOC and saw Sam standing talking with Kristen, she almost jumped out of her seat walking towards Sam. She thought that maybe something was wrong or had happened one of the kids as Sam never just showed up at the JOC.
Kristen was standing in front of Sam, she was the first person that an agent had brought Sam to as they had escorted her up from the main floor. "Sorry Jubal isn't available at the minute, I can take a message to give to him as I'm not sure how long he is going to be."
Maggie reached Kristen and Sam just as Kristen had finished speaking, she smiled looking at Sam "Hey Sam, is everything okay?."
Kristen was surprised when she heard Maggie call the woman by her name, and did she just say Sam? Isn't that the name of Jubal's ex wife? The team had never saw a picture of Sam or met her, they had only saw the pictures of the kids that Jubal had on his desk or that he showed them but their mum wasn't in any of them.
Sam looked at Maggie, then Kristen before back at Maggie, she knew that the team didn't know that Jubal and Maggie were dating and had been for almost seven months and had been living together the last month, so she wanted to be careful. "Can I talk to you for a minute?."
Maggie nodded and she looked at Kristen "I've got this Kris thank you."
"If you guys need anything just shout." Kristen smiled before walking from them back to her desk but there was no chance she was getting back to work she was focusing on Maggie and Sam talking trying to figure out what was going on.
When Kristen walked away Maggie looked at Sam "Are the kids okay? If you really need to talk to Jubal I can ask our boss to go and take him out of the interrogation."
"The kids are okay, they are actually here with me, an agent took them to the break room, said you guys had a case and weren't sure if there was images on the screens that weren't suitable for the kids. But this is about the kids, I hate dropping this on you but I've been called out of town on work and I have to leave straight away, I was trying to ring Jubal but he wasn't answering and the only other person who could keep them is Jubal's sister and well you know that I won't be asking her."
Jubal's sister Jenny had told Maggie that her and Sam really hadn't gotten on, never had and never would so she understood why Sam wasn't lifting the phone to ring and ask her to take the kids. "If you are okay with it you can leave the kids here with me Sam, I'll make sure they don't see anything they shouldn't here in the JOC. Once Jubal comes out of interrogation I'll take the kids home."
Sam let out the breath she had been holding as she had no idea what Maggie's response would be "I'm okay with leaving the kids with you Maggie, they love getting to spend time with you and their dad. You sure that you can manage though with having a case?."
Maggie smiled honestly hearing Sam tell her about the kids enjoying their time with her "I'm sure Sam, there are enough agent's here that can cover the field work, if they need me we will figure it out don't worry."
OA and Tiffany came walking back in to the JOC, they had been out getting proper coffee for everyone as Stuart was the one in the interrogation room with Jubal, they came over sitting down either side of Kristen. OA handed Kristen a coffee "Hey, who is that with Maggie?."
Kristen thanked OA for the coffee but had kept her eyes on Maggie and Sam "I'm not one hundred percent sure. An agent brought that woman up said that she had been cleared to come and speak to Jubal, I had just told her that wasn't possible when Maggie appeared calling her Sam."
"As in Jubal's ex wife Sam?." OA raised an eyebrow looking at Kristen.
"That's where my mind went too."
"You guy's haven't met Jubal's ex wife or saw a photo of her?" Tiffany asked them both as she looked at them.
OA shook his head "No Jubal is very private when it comes to his family, only shares what he wants to and there has been no reason for us to have met or even see Sam before."
Kristen was about to reply to OA when they heard two voices shouting Mags but couldn't see who had called her until they saw two kids running towards her only stopping when they bumped in to Maggie. Maggie froze when she heard the kids calling her Mags, she knew there was no way that the whole JOC hadn't heard them but her shock wore off the minute that the kids wrapped their arms around her. She chuckled hugging them both back.
"Hey guys. You know that is one really tight hug" she laughed kissing Tyler and Abby's head as both kids laughed still hugging Maggie.
"We have missed you and Daddy." Abby pulled her head back looking at Maggie as Tyler stood beside her.
OA almost spat his coffee out when Abby pulled her head back and Tyler stepped to beside Maggie as it meant they could clearly see both kids now. "That's Jubal's kids…." OA wasn't even sure how the words had tumbled out of his mouth. Thankfully for Maggie they hadn't been able to hear what Abby had said about missing her and Jubal.
"They called her Mags… they know her…. How?." Kristen was in much shock as OA.
Maggie ran her hand over Abby's hair gently "I'm sorry that we haven't had time to come see you guys the last few days."
Sam could see who she assumed were Jubal's team staring at Maggie and the kids and she kept her voice low so that only Maggie could hear her "Maggie I am so sorry, I thought the kids would have been staying in the other room until I went to get them. I'm guessing that is your team behind us because they haven't stopped staring and there is no way that they didn't hear the kids call you Mags."
Maggie looked over her shoulder to see OA, Kristen and Tiffany staring at them, all three agents tried to look busy with paperwork or on the computer when they saw Maggie looking at them. Maggie had to stop a chuckle escaping as she looked at Sam "Yeah that's our team, and don't worry about it Sam honestly it's not your fault. I'll keep the kids with me until I can take them home."
"Are we staying with Dad and Mags?" Tyler asked as he looked at his mum. He had spoke low enough that the team couldn't make out what he had said.
Sam smiled nodding at the kids "I have to go out of town for a couple of days so you are going to stay with Daddy and Maggie until I get back." Sam hugged both the kids really tight kissing their cheeks and telling them to be good for their Dad and Maggie and that she would check in with them soon.
The team were trying to hear the conversation that was happening with Sam, the kids and Maggie but they couldn't make out any of it. They sat in their chairs watching as Maggie wrapped her arms around Tyler and Abby's shoulder as the kids waved at their mum as she stepped on to the elevator. Maggie could feel the team still staring at her but right now her focus was on the kids and that was helping calm any nerves she had.
"Okay you two can join me in to my bosses office so that I can ask if we can borrow her office that way Daddy will see you both when he comes out of the interview room."
The kids walked close to Maggie feeling some of the people staring at them, especially OA, Kristen and Tiffany. Tyler looked at Maggie as they walked "Is Dad not your boss?."
Maggie smiled "He is but your dad has a boss and this is her office." Maggie knocked on Isobel's door who waved for her to come in. Isobel had been sitting at her desk watching Maggie talking to Sam and the kids but it wasn't a surprise to her as Jubal and Maggie had disclosed their relationship with her a few months ago.
Isobel leaned back in her chair as she watched Maggie step in to her office with Abby and Tyler as she closed the door behind them. "It's nice to finally meet you Tyler and Abigail." Isobel smiled softly at them.
Tyler stood closer to Maggie as he was a little shy, so was Abby but she was also curious which had her speaking, "You know who we are?."
Isobel nodded her head "Of course I do, your dad talks about you two a lot and has some pictures of you both on his desk."
"He does?" Abby had a large smile on her face.
"He really does. I think everyone who works in here knows about you two."
Maggie ran her along Tyler's back and over Abby's head "Guys this is Isobel, she is daddy's boss."
Both kids waved at Isobel saying hi making Maggie chuckle as this was the quietest she had seen either Abby or Tyler other than the first few minutes that she met them. Maggie looked at Isobel as she kept her arms around the kids "Do you mind if we wait in here until Jubal comes out of the interview? Their mum had to leave town quickly due to work so they are going to be staying with us for a few days."
Isobel knew that it wasn't like Sam to turn up at Jubal's work and had been even more surprised when she saw the kids so she knew there had to be a good reason for it. Now that Maggie had explained it to her it all made sense, she stood up from her chair and smiled softly "I actually have to go to a meeting so the office is all your's. It will be quieter for the kids and you can just try to ignore the team staring at you."
Maggie shook her head laughing as she heard Isobel "Yeah I've already caught them staring, already feeling a little used to it. I just know that they are dying to run in here and ask me questions and I think the only reason that they aren't is because of these two." She smiled squeezing Tyler and Abby's shoulder gently.
The kids thanked Isobel for letting them use her office as Isobel grabbed what she needed and left the office. Maggie got Tyler set up at the smaller desk in the office so that he could start his homework and she sat on the couch with Abby to help her out with her homework. Abby had climbed up on to Maggie's knee while they were doing her reading homework.
Jubal and Stuart had come out of the interrogation room and were walking back to the JOC, Jubal was checking his phone seeing all the missed calls from Sam. He looked up when he heard that the team hadn't given a response to Stuart's question, Jubal raised an eyebrow as he saw them sitting staring in to Isobel's office.
"Why are you three staring at..." Jubal froze mid question as he looked into Isobel's office and he saw his kids sitting there with Maggie.
"Jubal is that your kids with Maggie?." Stuart raised an eyebrow looking at Jubal.
"Who knew Maggie and called her Mags while running to her before squishing her in what looked like a really tight hug." OA spoke as he looked at Jubal before back at Maggie in time to see Maggie and Abby laughing at something that Maggie had said. Tyler had been laughing with them but was still trying to concentrate on his homework.
Jubal wasn't sure that he could actually breath, he had never expected to look into Isobel's office and see his girlfriend sitting with his kids doing their homework. He couldn't help the large smile that appeared on his face when he saw three of his favourite people laughing. Watching Maggie with the kids had become one of his favourite things to do especially when all three of them were unaware that he was watching them. As if been able to sense that he was watching her Maggie looked his way and smiled honestly at him, she said something to Abby and the young girl jumped down from Maggie's knee and Maggie opened the office door to let Abby run towards Jubal.
"Daddyyyyyy." The young girl shouted as she ran jumping in to her dads arms who caught her just in time making the team chuckle a little as it was clear that Jubal was used to being jumped on this way by his daughter.
"Hey baby girl." Jubal chuckled hugging his daughter kissing her cheek "What are you doing here?."
"Doing our homework with Mags, but she said I could come out and say hi." Abby smiled brightly at her dad wrapping her arms around his neck.
Jubal couldn't help but laugh softly at Abby, thinking that saying she was doing homework explained how she got here and why she had ended up at her dads work. "Hmm really? Because when I saw you three it looked like you were all laughing I'm not sure that counts as homework." Jubal teased Abby playfully.
Abby giggled hearing her dad talking about them laughing, she looked at Stuart who was standing close behind her dad and the others sitting beside them who were all leaning forward paying attention. Abby tried to whisper, as much as a six year old could whisper "That was because Mags said your teams heads were going to explode." Abby laughed again as she held her hands either side of her head and made an explosion sound.
Jubal laughed hearing Abby, he knew that the team had clearly heard her, he saw movement over Abby's shoulder and noticed Maggie was now standing leaning against Isobel's doorframe with Tyler standing in front of her as she had her arm around him "What exactly have you been teaching the kids in there?." He raised his eyebrow playfully.
Maggie laughed when she heard Jubal "Just that the team probably had about a million questions that they wanted to ask but couldn't so their heads might explode waiting." She shrugged laughing.
The team noticed straight away that Jubal had said 'kids' and not just 'his/my kids' like he used to, the minute that the kids called Maggie 'Mags' they were assuming that Jubal and Maggie were dating but they were going to actually need to hear it being confirmed by one of them. Maggie came walking over to them with Tyler, she kept her around him knowing that he was still feeling shy.
Jubal smiled watching Maggie with Tyler he loved how she had always been so understanding and patient about how shy his son could get at times. "I have to admit the team aren't the only one's with questions right now, I have some of my own. Like how did the kids end being here with you other than doing their homework as Abby told me." He tickled Abby lightly.
Abby wiggled around in her dads arms laughing "Mags said If we did our homework while waiting for you that we would have more time to play at home."
"Okay that makes it sound like I kind of bribed them with playtime." Maggie laughed shaking her head "Sam brought the kids here, they are going to be getting Daddy bedtime stories for a few nights but everything is fine. I will explain later, when the team aren't going to pull muscles trying to stretch to listen to every word being said." Maggie teased playfully as she looked at the team.
"Hey, can you really blame us?" OA looked at Maggie "I mean we are going to need one of you to explain what is actually going on here. Why are Jubal's kids calling you Mags and running to squish you in a hug the minute they saw you?."
"Because we love Mags, she's family." Abby smiled looking at OA, which just made Maggie and Jubal laugh softly.
"I mean that kind of does explain it." Maggie laughed as she ran her hand over Abby's hair gently.
Kristen shook her head "I think we are going to need one of you to confirm what we are all assuming here."
"What that my kids love Maggie and that Maggie loves them? I mean yeah I can happily confirm that." Jubal smirked looking at Kristen and the others.
"Yeah boss I don't think that's exactly what Kris is talking about." Stuart laughed looking at Jubal.
"If you guys have a question you are going to have to spit it out, I mean I have no idea what you guys saw other than Maggie having the kids and I'm guessing seeing Sam." Jubal looked at the team, it was actually a little fun for him to see the team not wanting to come straight out and ask them.
"Yeah we saw Sam, I was told someone was here to see you, but I had no idea who she was until Maggie said her name and they asked to be alone to talk." Kristen looked at Jubal "So Sam and Maggie clearly know each other."
"Anyone that meets the kids usually meets Sam as well so yeah Maggie has met and knows Sam." Jubal wasn't going to come out and say it, he wanted the team to ask before telling them that.
"Why does dad keeping calling you Maggie?" Tyler asked quietly as he looked up at Maggie.
Maggie smiled looking at Tyler "When we are at work dad always call me Maggie."
"What are you used to your dad calling Maggie?." OA asked looking at Tyler as they had all heard what the young boy had said.
"Mags" Abby said proudly as Tyler had snuggled in to Maggie's side more when OA asked him the question but Abby felt a lot more confident now in her Daddy's arms. "Sometimes baby or babe, only ever Maggie if it's someone he doesn't know at the door or if it's Mags mummy on the phone."
Both Jubal and Maggie laughed hearing Abby, even Tyler had started to chuckle, as the team sat in almost silence again, processing what Abby had just told them. Jubal looked at the team shaking his head as OA found his voice "And what does Maggie call your dad outside of work?."
"Babe, honey or sometimes we all call him a…" before Abby could say 'Teddybear' Jubal lightly put his hand over her mouth and he and Maggie both said 'No' at the same time laughing.
"That third name is something only you three ever need to know" Jubal laughed looking at his daughter who giggled nodding as Jubal removed his hand and looked at OA "And no you can't question a six year old, if you have a question you can ask either me or Mags." Jubal didn't see the point in saying Maggie anymore.
"It would be much easier to let us ask your daughter though." OA laughed. "I mean we now know that Maggie's mum knows you and that Maggie and your kids have a secret name for you."
"OA you are not questioning the kids, you can ask me, we are partners after all." Maggie shook her head laughing.
When OA didn't say anything Stuart shook his head and looked at Jubal and Maggie "Okay since Kris and OA have apparently lost their voices for the first time ever, I guess it's up to me to ask what is on our minds. Are you two dating?."
"Yes." Jubal answered straight away and laughed when Maggie slapped his shoulder lightly and playfully which made Tyler and Abby laugh. "Hey! What was that for? I answered the question."
"I do not plan on standing here all night answering questions, I'd like to actually to take the kids home before bed time." Maggie shook her head laughing "Just tell them what we are comfortable with them knowing."
"They've saw my ex wife for the first time, met my kids and just found out you are my girlfriend, is that not enough for one day?." Jubal raised an eyebrow looking at Maggie.
"Not if you plan on leaving here before the kids bedtime. I mean we can totally have pizza and ice cream without you if that's what you want?." Maggie smirked playfully looking at Jubal.
"Oh that's just cruel, you know that pizza night with you guys is one of my favourite nights." Jubal shook his head laughing before looking at the team who had been sitting watching them seeing a totally different side to Maggie and Jubal right now. "Okay fine, yes Maggie and I are dating, have been for almost seven months, we have lived together for just over a month and disclosed to Isobel a few months ago. I think that about covers most of it."
The team sat in silence after listening to Jubal which just had Maggie laughing "You have left them speechless for what is definitely the first time ever."
"Seven months?..." Kristen could just about be heard.
"You live together?"… OA spoke at the same as Kris.
"Yeah I think they are going to need a few minutes to process everything." Maggie laughed shaking her heads "While they do that how about we go and get you two packed up so that we can head home. We will come back and say bye to daddy before we leave." Maggie looked at the kids trying not to laugh as OA and Kristen sat back in their chairs in silence.
Jubal kissed Abby's cheek and stood her down on the floor as she ran carefully with Tyler back in to Isobel's office, he took a step forward to grab Maggie's hand gently "Hey, you sure you are okay with taking them home? I'll try to get home as soon as I can."
Maggie smiled feeling Jubal pull her hand to stop her from walking any further and she turned around to face him "I'm sure Jubal, you can't leave and the kids will be much more comfortable at home. It's not my first time alone with them, we will be fine I promise." Maggie squeezed his hand gently before going in to Isobel's office helping the kids pack up their school bags.
Jubal turned around to face the team and Stuart was laughing at OA and Kristen who were still really quiet "You should have told us sooner if that was all it took for them to be quiet." He joked playfully looking at Jubal "We are happy for you though boss, for you both. Your kids obviously love Maggie."
Jubal smiled hearing Stuart "Oh we both know that's not going to last long and when they find their voices I'm going to have to listen to endless questions so I'm happy to enjoy the quiet for now. Thanks Stuey I appreciate that and yeah those three are inseparable at times."
"Don't worry we feel the same way about you too." Maggie smirked playfully as she ran her free hand along Jubal's back slowly as she was carrying Abby on her hip holding her with her other arm.
Jubal smiled feeling Maggie's hand on his back and he turned to face her, his smile just growing more when he saw Abby laying her head on Maggie's shoulder as the young girl was starting to get tired. "You ready to head home?." When the kids nodded Jubal hugged Tyler kissing his head and he kissed Abby's cheek which had him right in front of Maggie so he leaned up stealing a quick kiss from Maggie's lips. "I will see you all soon."
Maggie smiled when Jubal stole the quick kiss and she ran her hand along his arm "If you can't get away from here in time just let me know." She squeezed his hand gently before wrapping her arm around Tyler and they all said bye to Jubal once more before they left heading towards the elevator.
Jubal stood with his hands on his waist watching the three people that he loved more than anything when he finally heard OA speak "That is definitely going to take some time getting used to, seeing you kissing Maggie and seeing her with kids."
Maggie and the kids turned at the top of the JOC and waved once more at Jubal before disappearing into the corridor. Jubal had such a large smile on his face as he turned to look at OA "She is amazing with the kids."
"You all seem really happy." Kristen smiled looking at Jubal
"We really are." Jubal couldn't stop smiling, he really was the happiest he had been in a long time.
