I had a request to write a reveal based on Father's Day, unfortunately it took me longer than I planned to write this. The muse is struggling a little for FBI writing, but I hope you enjoy it.
This was Maggie's first Father's Day dating Jubal, she had arranged with Sam that they were going to have the kids this weekend so that Jubal could have time with them and just relax, but things rarely went to plan when you work for the FBI. They had taken on a huge case that meant they had to cancel their plans with the kids as they didn't think they were going to get the case solved in time for the weekend. The case took a personal turn for Jubal when someone that he knew from AA was arrested in connection to the case and was found dead two days later.
The team managed to close the case sooner than they had thought but Jubal was really struggling with this one, to see someone he knew from AA lose their sobriety and then end up dead was a lot to deal with. The fact that he wasn't getting to see the kids for Father's Day was making it all a little harder to deal with. Jubal was pulled from his thoughts sitting at the desk in the JOC when he heard OA.
"Hey Jubal have you seen or heard from Maggie? None of us have seen or heard from her for a couple of hours."
Jubal had obviously noticed that Maggie hadn't been around, that was also bothering him as he really needed her right now but she had just disappeared on him without saying a word and wasn't answering his calls or messages. He couldn't say all of that to OA as the team still didn't know that Jubal and Maggie were dating. He shook his head hearing OA.
"The last time I saw Maggie was a few hours ago here in the JOC when we closed the case. I'm guessing she didn't say to you where she went?." He had wanted to ask OA that since Maggie had disappeared but was afraid it would be too obvious if he did.
OA shook his head "No she just disappeared without saying anything, I've tried texting and calling her but there's no answer. I'm hoping everything is okay it's not like Maggie to just disappear like that, especially not when Isobel asked us all to stay on late today."
"I'm sure we will hear from her soon OA." He knew OA was right, this really wasn't like Maggie and as annoyed as Jubal was that she had just disappeared on him when he really needed her, now he was starting to get worried about her.
"She must have heard you talking about her." Kristen looked at OA and Jubal and nodded at Maggie who was coming walking into the back of the JOC.
"Why are you three staring at me?." Maggie raised an eyebrow looking at them as she walked towards them.
"Where have you been? We have been calling and texting you, we we're starting to get worried." OA jumped in before Jubal or Kristen got a word in.
"I had something that I had to take care of, that took a little bit longer that I had planned. I couldn't check or answer my phone. Look I'll explain it all later okay?" Maggie then looked at Jubal and took a deep breath she had thought about this in her head and how it was going to play out but she was still really nervous, this was not how she originally imagined things going. "Can you come with me to the break room, I have something to show you."
Jubal was surprised to hear Maggie and especially in front of the other's, he stood up slowly looking at her confused as to what was going on. "Erm yeah sure, is everything okay?."
"Do we all get to join you?." OA couldn't resist asking as he was curious as to where Maggie had been and why she now had something to show Jubal.
"Can you just give me five, ten minutes with Jubal and then you can all join if you want to?." Maggie looked at OA.
"You're kinda starting to worry us here Maggie." OA joked playfully.
Maggie shook her head laughing "Don't worry I'm not leading Jubal to his death." She rolled her eyes playfully as she caught everyone by surprise as she held her hand out to Jubal "You ready?."
Jubal looked at Maggie's hand before back up to her face, he could see that she was confident and sure about her decisions right now. OA and Kristen stood in complete shock as Jubal reached out taking Maggie's hand "I can't believe I'm about to agree with OA, but you do have me a little worried here Mags." He teased playfully trying to hide his nerves as he really had no idea what was going on.
Maggie squeezed Jubal's hand gently "You trust me right?."
"With my life." Jubal didn't hesitate for even a second with his answer.
"Then trust me when I tell you that this is a really good thing, but we really need to go like right now."
Maggie was ignoring that OA and Kristen were staring at them with their mouths open, they had clearly heard Jubal call her 'Mags' and could see them holding hands, but they really had no idea what was going on. Maggie squeezed Jubal's hand as they walked out of the JOC and towards the break room, the doors of the break room were closed so Maggie stopped outside them facing Jubal.
"I know this case has been really tough on you for obvious reasons and I know you have been struggling, I'm really sorry that I just disappeared and didn't answer when you rang or text but I think you might forgive me when you see what I have for you."
Maggie smiled softly as she squeezed Jubal's hand once more before opening the door to Tyler, Abby and his sister Jen standing in the break room who all shouted surprise. Abby ran towards her dad and Maggie,
"Daddy…." She jumped in to Jubal's arms who caught her with ease and hugged her tight to him.
Jubal was genuinely so surprised when Maggie opened the door and showed him his kids and sister standing waiting on him. He had tears in his eyes as he hugged Abby tight kissing her head as he still had Maggie's hand in his as he turned his head to face her.
"This is where you disappeared to?." The emotion could be heard clearly in Jubal's voice.
Maggie smiled softly as she looked at Jubal and she ran her free hand along his arm slowly "I had to ring Sam and see if it was okay for us to have the kids and I had to go and collect them, and Jen helped me pick up a few things. I thought that you might need and want some time with family and I know we can't leave work yet so I thought I would bring your family here."
Jubal leaned down and kissed Maggie softly but with so much love leaning his forehead against hers lightly when they broke the kiss "Thank you, this is exactly what I needed and I can't believe you did all of this for me."
Maggie smiled as she kissed Jubal back softly and lifted her hand to his cheek as she kissed him once more "I wish there was more that I could do for you, but right now let's go enjoy time with the kids and they have some small surprises for you."
Abby squeezed Jubal in her arms playfully "We have cake for you daddy, we need to get over there before aunt Jen and Tyler eat it all."
Jubal laughed hearing Abby "You guys have cake? But it's not my birthday."
Tyler came walking over and Maggie stepped back so that he could move in and hug his dad tight as he smiled looking up at him. "Mags said that you needed some cheering up so me and Abby thought that cake might help and we got your favourite."
Jubal smiled hugging Tyler tight kissing his head "Cake always works to cheer me up but not as much as having you both here."
"Me and Mags can eat this cake on our own if you want." Jen teased her brother playfully as she stood by the table that the cake was sitting on.
"I think you will have plenty of help from the team who I know are dying to run in here to find out what is going on." Maggie shook her head laughing.
Jubal carried Abby while keeping his free arm around Tyler as he made his way over to the table to see the cake and he smiled when he saw that it said 'Happy Father's Day to the best Daddy.' He turned his head to look at Maggie "What you think baby should we cut it now or make them wait until we get home?."
"Now" Abby and Tyler both shouted out which made Maggie, Jen and Jubal laugh. Maggie couldn't help the large smile on her face as she saw Jubal was genuinely laughing and smiling, seeing the kids really had been what he needed. Abby wiggled down out of Jubal's arms so that she could give him the card that her and Tyler made for him at home, he hunkered down to look at the card with them.
Jen came walking over to Maggie and nudged her shoulder gently "You really do know him better than anyone, this was exactly what he needed. When I spoke to him this morning he sounded so lost and deflated, now look at him."
"It's so good to see him smiling and laughing again, I know this hasn't been easy for him, and the idea of not getting to spend Father's Day with the kids was just too much with how much he was already struggling. I will always do my best to make him happy."
"Like outing your relationship to your whole team, because they are going to know by the end of the day." Jen laughed softly.
Maggie shook her head laughing "It was totally worth it to see Jubal this happy."
Before Jenny could reply Abby was standing in front of them pulling their hands gently "Come on daddy is ready to cut his cake."
Maggie laughed following Abby over to Jubal, he wrapped his arm around Maggie's waist kissing her cheek "You do know that this cake is far too big for just the five of us baby?." He raised his eyebrow playfully.
"You really think that I was going to take cake in here and not have enough for the team? I do not want to listen to OA complaining about not getting him cake." Maggie shook her head laughing as she watched Jubal cut the cake and put out enough for the five of them.
Jen was sitting with Tyler and Abby eating the cake and talking about what the kids had been up to that week, Jubal sat down his now empty plate and stood facing Maggie running his hands along her arms slowly. "I really can't thank you enough for all of this, bringing the kids here, the cake, the gifts, it really has been perfect and was exactly what I needed and you know you have left OA and Kristen sitting in shock." He chuckled softly.
"You really don't have to thank me Jubal, this was the least I could do to try and bring back your smile, I know how gutted you were that you weren't getting today with the kids, so I wanted to do what I could to change that. It's not exactly how I planned on telling the team but today was about you, and helping you through everything." Maggie leaned up kissing Jubal softly "And you can leave with the kids and I'll deal with the teams questions."
"Getting time with you and the kids will always make me smile baby no matter what." Jubal had that reserved, genuine smile on his face that creased the corner of his eyes, the one that Maggie loved so much. "We can bring the team in to eat some of this cake before we have to leave to take the kids home."
"You sure babe? I know you haven't introduced them to the kids before?" Maggie shook her head smiling "We don't have to leave them home, they are staying with us for a couple of nights, I thought some time together was exactly what you three needed right now. It's been a while since they've been able to stay with us so they are so excited about it."
"I'm sure, I think I crossed that personal and work line when we started dating baby." Jubal chuckled softly and then he shook his head smiling "You really are amazing you know that? To have organised all of this, and for us to have the kids for a couple days, what could be better than getting time with my three favourite people."
"Well your three favourite people can't wait to get time with you." Maggie smiled kissing Jubal softly "Go have time with the kids babe, I'll go and get the team."
"Are you sure? I can come with you if you want?."
"I'm sure, honestly go before Abby has her third piece of cake." Maggie laughed softly as she kissed Jubal squeezing his hand before she left the break room heading back in to the JOC.
Maggie laughed when she walked back in to the JOC and saw OA, Kristen, Stuart and Tiffany just standing waiting for her. "You four just been standing there waiting for me or Jubal to come back?."
"Well we were hoping that one of you would come back and explain what the hell is going on." OA walked towards Maggie as he spoke "Did Jubal really call you Mags or were we hearing things?."
"I'm sure that you have all figured out what is going on, not like I walk around holding my hand out to hold to just anyone." Maggie teased playfully "Yes he really called me Mags, he's been calling me that for months now, just usually not at work."
"Yeah I'm afraid we are going to need you to say the words out loud." Kristen looked at Maggie as they all stood around her.
Maggie shook her head laughing, she may have made the decision about today but she still felt nervous "Jubal and I are dating, I disappeared earlier to go and get the kids so that they could spend what's left of Father's Day with their dad. We have cake in the break room if you want to join us, but if you do give the kids time okay? They can be shy to begin with."
"Okay wait I'm going to need a minute to process all that information, you and Jubal are dating and you are telling me that there is cake." OA laughed joking playfully.
"Jubal is really okay with us meeting his kids?." Tiffany asked as she knew that none of them had met them before.
Maggie smiled when she heard Tiffany "He is, it was him that told me that you all could join us. His sister Jen is with them as well."
"You and Jubal are really dating?." Kristen asked still in shock at the news.
"Yeah that's not going to be the most surprising news for you about us." Maggie laughed as she turned to walk towards the break room "Come on if you are coming."
Maggie walked back to the break room and smiled when Abby came running over to her wrapping her arms around Maggie. "Mags daddy said that we can have family movie night tonight and it's our turn to pick."
Maggie smiled lifting Abby up to hold her on her hip "He did? Well this day just keeps getting better and better." Maggie could feel Abby tense up a little in her arms so she knew that the team were standing behind her, she turned her head to see the team standing staring at them which made Maggie laugh softly "Maybe don't stand staring and scare the kids."
"You holding a kid is going to take a little getting used to." OA smiled looking at Maggie as he was really trying to let it all sink in.
Jubal stood up with Tyler by his side, his arm wrapped around his shoulders. "Guys this is Tyler and Abigail and my sister Jenny." He looked at Tyler and Abby "Don't worry they don't bite, I promise. But this is Kristen, Tiffany, Stuart and OA." Jubal pointed each of them out to the kids.
Jenny smiled looking at them "It's nice to finally meet you all, I've heard a lot about you from both Jubal and Mags so it's really nice to finally actually meet you. You can have some cake before those four eat it all."
"Hey, me and Abby only had two slices." Jubal laughed looking at his sister.
"Is that because Tyler and Jen stopped you from having more?." Maggie raised an eyebrow looking at Jubal which had Tyler laughing and she tickled Abby making her laugh.
"Maybe….but still only two slices." Jubal laughed softly, he loved how Maggie was trying her best to help the kids relax around the team.
"Daddy said that we can take some home for family movie night." Abby had her arms wrapped around Maggie's neck.
"You want me to set aside the biggest slice for you to take home?." OA spoke to Abby who nodded her head giggling.
"Oh nice OA using sugar to get to Abby." Maggie slapped his arm playfully shaking her head.
"I'm just making sure she has treats for family movie night, Abigail sounds very excited about it." OA smiled as he spoke.
"It's the best night ever, we get to watch a movie in our pyjamas with daddy and Mags under the big blanket and tonight me and Mags are getting to pick the movie." Abby smiled brightly looking at OA, feeling more comfortable with him now.
"So Mags stays with you overnight for family movie night?." OA kept his focus on Abby while he spoke to her.
"Really OA? You are going to try and get information from the kids?." Jubal raised his eyebrow playfully as the team noticed that he now said 'the kids' and not 'his kids' like he used to.
"Where else would Mags sleep?." Tyler asked a little confused as to why OA was asking that.
"In her own apartment." Kristen was now joining in.
"But that is where Movie night is." Tyler smiled softly at Kristen.
"So you all stay with Maggie?." Kristen stepped a little closer to Tyler as she spoke.
"Where else would we stay?." Abby asked confused, Jubal and Maggie were trying not to chuckle at the teams questions as they hadn't figured it out yet.
"In your dad's apartment." OA smiled looking at Tyler and Abigail.
"That is Mags apartment." Tyler and Abby answered at the same time making both kids laugh unaware to what they had just told the team. Maggie stood Abby down who ran to join Tyler and Jen to get some juice.
Maggie chuckled looking at the team as she walked over to stand beside Jubal who wrapped his arm around Maggie's waist resting his hand on her hip as he kissed Maggie's cheek before speaking "I think the kids might have broke the team."
Maggie shook her head laughing as she leaned against Jubal lightly laying her hand on top of his "I did warn them that they hadn't heard the most surprising news in the JOC."
"You two live together?." OA asked still in shock.
"My money was on Kristen being the first to find her voice." Jubal teased playfully as he kept Maggie against his chest. "We do live together, we have for a couple of months, that's why you were confusing the kids so much." He laughed softly.
"How the hell did we not notice this before now?." Stuart shook his head as he looked at Jubal and Maggie who both were standing smiling so much.
"We have been very careful at work, and this really wasn't how we had planned on telling you guys." Maggie ran her hand along Jubal's arm slowly as she spoke to the team.
"Yeah Mags just decided to remind me today how lucky I am and that lead to you guys finding out about us, I had no idea about any of this." Jubal couldn't stop smiling as he kissed Maggie's cheek holding her even closer to him.
"You two really are so adorable." Kristen was trying hard not to let our a small squeal at seeing how cute Jubal and Maggie were together.
"One and only time you are allowed to call us that." Jubal shook his head laughing. "But guy's seriously go get yourself some cake before the kids have it all eaten or hidden."
The team went over to get some cake and let everything sink in, they were standing eating their cake as they watched Jubal unable to keep his hands off Maggie as they both laughed and smiled with Tyler and Abby. This was the happiest the team had ever saw them.
