Smallville residents Eliza and Jeremia were on their way home from an evening out on the town in Metropolis. It was getting dark and Eliza and Jeremia were talking in the car about the idea of having a second child, knowing how difficult it would be because of her previous delivery where Eliza had almost died.
Jeremia didn't want to tempt the devil and put Eliza's life in danger and Eliza didn't agree. As a result, an argument began to break out in the car.
They had almost arrived home when a lightning bolt crossed the road in front of them and then all of a sudden a huge explosion sounded. They rushed to the scene of what appeared to be a crash when they immediately realized that this was not the case.
They were about to call the police and rescue services when they heard someone call for help, the small, thin voice of a child. They got closer to what they thought was a crash, and saw their eyes widen when they finally realized it wasn't a plane but what appeared to be a spacecraft. They were even more surprised when they discovered a ten-year-old child inside who was desperately trying to get out of the ship. Her body had injuries and a green rock had sunk into one of the child's legs. They would later discover that it was kryptonite.
Jeremia rushed to get a hammer from the trunk of his car while Eliza tried to reassure the little girl who seemed panicked.
He quickly returned and pounded on the ship's window with all his might to extract the girl who had just lost consciousness.
They put the ship in the trunk of their pickup truck and left in an emergency before the bad people arrived...
Eliza was an army doctor, she knew what to do, and knowing that this little girl was not from earth, she took it upon herself to treat her at home with the help of Jeremia and her other daughter, Alex.
Eliza understood that the green stone hurt Kara's body because Kara felt better right away when she got it out of her skin. Jeremia went to bury the stone in the distance in one of their fields.
The little girl regained consciousness two hours later, was panicked and wanted to escape. She was restrained by Alex who took her in his arms and hugged her tightly to reassure her and she calmed down instantly, to the great astonishment of Alex's parents who discovered to their amazement that their daughter had not been afraid of a girl from another planet.
- Hi, my name is Alex, what's your name?
The little girl opened her eyes, looked around her, not very reassured, and stammered:
- Zora-L, my name is Zora-L.
Jeremiah and Eliza looked into each other's eyes, and each, seeing the other's gaze, understood what the other was thinking. They could not talk about this little girl or where she came from, she would be in great danger otherwise.
As a military doctor, Eliza had access to certain people who could help her. Jeremia being an outstanding hacker, he would take care of falsifying the adoption file. And by mutual agreement, she decided with Jeremia and with the agreement of their daughter Alex, to adopt the little girl they would name Kara, Kara Denvers. They also decided to bury Kara's ship so that no one would find it.
It had now been a month since Kara had arrived on earth. She was beginning to take her bearings, was fully healed of her wounds and had also become very close to her adopted sister Alex who protected her against everything. Since Kara had arrived on earth at a certain age, she had been able to tell her adoptive family where she had come from, namely from Krypton, which exploded and whose parents had been sent to earth to save her. The green stone was named kryptonite, because she probably came from her planet, but as a child, she could not have told her adoptive parents exactly what it was about. On her planet, this stone helped to save lives, so she didn't understand why it was the other way around here. And she was sad enough to have lost her real parents, family and all her friends to try to understand why this stone was hurting her.
One afternoon that Kara and Alex had to spend shopping, as their mother Eliza wasn't far from the stores in case they needed her, Kara decided to go away for a bit to get some fresh air. She wasn't a big fan of crowded places. She settled down on a park bench, eating quietly and thinking about her parents, probably dead today, when a bunch of kids not much older than her burst in and asked her to get up from the bench so they could settle down.
Kara refused and the tone began to rise, she looked for her sister who was too busy trying on a new shirt and didn't see Kara in trouble.
Kara: - I don't have to move, I was here before you!
One of the boys: - Just move, I said!
The other boys were laughing like crazy and Kara was really starting to get scared, when the biggest boy took her arm and pulled her violently off the bench, knocking her to the ground. She picked up her glasses, and the tallest of the boys wanted to slap her, but he was stopped in his tracks by a hand that prevented him from doing so and threw him to the ground.
He looked at himself and saw another girl facing him, who looked determined.
- Drop her there or you'll regret it!
- I do what I want!
The boy got up and the girl took a masterful punch in the face, provoking the hilarity of his so-called friends. Kara, who had gotten up, didn't dare to move, she was paralyzed by fear. The boy wanted to retaliate but the girl dodged the blow and gave him a judo grip that knocked him to the ground once again. His friends helped him to get up and run away, too ashamed to have been beaten by a girl...
The girl approached Kara, took her hand and asked her if she was okay and made her sit down.
- Is she asking if she's okay?
Kara asked: - Yes, thank you for helping me," she stammered, still in shock.
- By the way, my name is Tess, Tess Mercer," she said, reaching out her hand to him.
- Kara: - Nice to meet you, I'm Kara.
- Tess: - You go to school in Smallville?
- Kara: - Yeah, well not yet, I'm just adopted, my parents just signed me up, I start next week, we'll probably run into each other there, she says cheerfully.
Alex arrived, and when they explained what had happened, he blamed himself for not being there for his sister and wanted to break their teeth, only held back by Kara who told him not to worry because Tess had helped him.
With that, Tess left as she had come, wishing to see Kara at school next week and winked at her as she left.
