AN: What could possibly be in part two?

Alex sighed as he shuffled up the divorce papers again. He tapped them on the floor to get them all together and picked them up to put them back in the envelope and give them to his lawyer. Then suddenly, something slipped from between the pages. A tiny little black and white photo that floated to the floor like a leaf in fall.

Alex's heart stopped as he stared at the ultrasound photo as it laid face up on the wooden floorboards. His breath caught in his throat as he reached down to pick it up and he didn't need to read the name in the corner of the photo to know whose baby was in the photo.

His baby was in the photo. His and Jo's baby, their Baby. Jo was pregnant. Alex saw that there was something written on the back as it floated down and turned it over, where he was greeted with Jo's elegant handwriting again.

"Alex, our baby is due October 31st, 2020, on our wedding anniversary. I'm not sure if it's karma or what, but I'm having our baby, and despite how much I hate you for being a traitor to me and our marriage, I want you to meet them and be their father just like we always talked about. Please, come home to us."

He remembered how surprised he was when Jo pranked him with a fake pregnancy last October. Just like before, she had truly surprised him now. They were having a baby. A smile spread across his face because this baby came with a lifetime of happiness with Jo. Although it would be hard, he still wanted it.

He reached in his pocket for his phone to call her but found that he already had a voicemail and a missed call from her. He didn't know what to expect, and he was so nervous as he played the voicemail on speaker, but he smiled when he heard her voice again.

"Hi Alex, I'm assuming that you got the divorce papers and your stuff since I got a notification that it had arrived, and I'm hoping that you've seen the ultrasound photo. Surprise, I'm pregnant. I'm sorry. This isn't how I wanted to tell you, but when you didn't come home, when you left, I didn't know how else to tell you."

Jo's voice broke and it brought tears to his eyes. He never wanted to hurt her, but in leaving her, he knew that he had betrayed her more than anyone else in her life had.

"I'm not very far along, only about seven weeks along. I had to beg Carina to give me an ultrasound this early, but it was worth it to get to see our baby," Jo said, as she spoke about their baby, happiness filled her voice, and he could tell that she was smiling.

"And our baby, Alex, they're absolutely perfect. They have tiny little arms and a perfect beating heart, and I know it's still early and I could still miscarry, but I'm hopeful, and I'm so excited, despite everything between us. I remember our Halloween honeymoon and how we talked about how scared and excited we were to have kids. I'm not scared anymore to have a baby with you. I'm just excited, and I know exactly what kind of mom I want to be, and how I want to raise our baby. And I know exactly the kind of dad you're going to be because I know you're going to drop everything to be there for them. I know you're thinking about coming back now. I don't know if it's possible, and maybe it's selfish of me to ask, but this is me asking you to come back. Please, Alex, come back to us. Because despite how hurt and betrayed I am by you, my heart is so full of love for you, and I'm willing to forgive you. We'll still have to work things out, but I want to work things out with you."

As Jo paused, Alex took a breath. Never in a million years did he think that she would even offer him the chance at forgiveness. He thought that when he left, they were saying goodbye forever. He thought that she would never want to see him again, but here she was, asking him to come back, and asking him to work things out with her. How could he not go back to her and their baby?

"I need you to be a father to our baby, and I need you to come back and be my husband. I don't care if you come back with an ex-wife and two kids, so long as I have you. I actually want to meet the twins and I want them to be our baby's big siblings. I have the feeling that they would be pretty good at it. So please, Alex, come home, come home and be with me and our baby, please."

Her last word replayed in his mind. It was the same begging kind of please that she had asked of him when she showed up on his doorstep after her fight with Myers. He remembered her face, half black and blue, as she begged him to let her stay the night. Of course, he took her in. How could he not and how could he not go back to her now?

He looked around the room and caught Izzie standing in the doorway. He knew from the way that she leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed as she glared at the floor. She had heard every word of it.

"Izzie," Alex said as he stood up, holding his phone and the ultrasound photo in his hands. He was trying to be gentle with her, trying to make this work with her like he had been trying to make things work since he got there a month ago.

"Just go Alex, you never wanted to be here in the first place, so just leave," Izzie said as she turned around and walked away from him.

"Izzie wait, I don't want to leave until I say goodbye to the twins and maybe you could come back with me to Seattle. You could see Meredith again, and the twins could meet Jo and their future sibling," Alex pleaded with her.

"You think I want that, Alex? I moved to Kansas to escape all of that, I have a life here, and my kids have a life here," Izzie said, finally stopping in the hallway to turn and glare at him. She raised her voice and her hands as she gestured to the life she had built here.

"What do you expect from me, Izzie? I'm trying, I've been trying to make this work with you and the kids for the past month, but you won't let me. You won't let me be a part of your life. You barely let me be a part of the twins' lives. You barely let me into your house. I walk around on eggshells all day, afraid that I'm going to make you mad. I've done everything that you've asked of me. I came here to be with the twins, and I left everything behind, but Jo is having our baby, and you know that I can't leave her to raise our kid alone."

"God, you're such a traitor, Alex Karev. You say you want to be here for your kids, and then you go and knock her up back in Seattle. I know you. I know this isn't just some unplanned pregnancy. You planned this so that you could get everything you ever wanted. So you could get your kids and your wife and your happy life in Seattle, but you are not taking my kids anywhere."

"Jo's not just some girl. She was my wife. And you're right, I did plan this. Jo and I were trying for a baby before I found out about the twins. I had a life, a wife, and we were planning to have a family together until you dropped a bomb on me and said you had our kids. And I dropped everything to be a good father to our kids and I'm their father now. I have a right to see them, and if I have to go to court and file for custody, I will. I swear to you, I will never take the twins away from you, but I want to see them. Even if it's just one weekend a month. I love our kids and I know that you love them too. I know you hate me, but can't we do what's best for Alexis and Eli. Can you let them have a father to them and to mine and Jo' baby? You know what it's like to grow up without a father and I know you want one for our kids. That's why you told me about them and that's why you let me be here. So please, Izzie, let me be a father to our twins, but let me be a father to my and Jo's baby too."

Alex let his anger go as he pleaded with Izzie and he could see her lose all of her malice too. She was never one to hold on to her anger, Izzie was kind and caring. He knew that she just wanted what was best for their kids, but he knew that she didn't want to lose them either, and he never wanted to take them from her.

"I'm not going to ship our kids between Kansas and Seattle every other week," Izzie said as she took a deep breath and met his eyes. "So I'll come out with them once you get things settled with Jo. Then you can have them one weekend a month and then a few weeks in the summer. Then if it all works out, we can increase your time with them. I don't want to split the holidays with you so I'll come out for Christmas, or you and Jo can come here. When the baby's born, we'll come out to see them. They're going to be so excited to be big siblings, and you're right, I want our kids to have a father so we can work it out."

"Thank you," Alex said with a nod.

Izzie finally smiled and gave him a nod. "Go home to your wife, Alex. It's where you belong."

Alex nodded as he started to pack a bag. He packed everything he needed, including the things from Jo because he was going home to her. When Alexis and Eli came home from school, he told them a little bit of what was going on. However, the moment he told them that they were going to be big siblings, they shrieked with excitement and started bouncing off the walls and begging to come with him. Alex could only get them to calm down by telling them that he would bring them out as soon as he could. They were sad to see him go, but excited to meet Jo and meet their future baby sibling.

Before he knew it, he was on a plane destined for home, and soon he was knocking on the loft's door. Jo pulled the door open, and there she was, standing before him.

"You came back," Jo whispered, her lips parted as she stared at him as one hand went down to her belly, to hold their baby.

"I came back," Alex said, letting out a breath, he was home where he belonged.

He knew that there was still a world of hurt and betrayal that they would have to sort through, but Jo reached out to hold his cheek before she pulled him in and kissed him. When she pulled back, she held him in her arms and hugged him close. He knew then that everything would be okay. He breathed in her scent, the real aroma of her, and he knew he wasn't a traitor anymore.
