Why was this boy helping me? Who is he? These questions swarmed around in eight year old Annabeth's head. She was lost, seperated from her father in the busy marketplace.

That was, until this boy with jet black hair and sea-green eyes came and offered to help her. Annabeth was sitting down on the curbside, when he came up to her. Annabeth's eyes caught on the gorgeous pin on his shirt.

It was encrusted with precious jewels of green and blue- into the shape of a crown. She could tell it was real by how it sparkled in the sun, and how the sunlight bended through it. Annabeth was smart enough to know that maybe he was... Royalty? Well, he certainly didn't look like it.

"Who are you?" She asked, looking at him. "Are you a prince?" The boy froze.

"How did you know?" He asked.

She pointed at the pin on his shirt. "Aren't you the bright one."

He blushed beet red. "B-be quiet!"

Annabeth sighed, and she remembered something. "Whats your name?"

"I'll tell you once you give yours."

"Fine. I'm Annabeth Chase."

He hesitated for a moment. "I'm Percy."

Percy? Annabeth heard that name, on the news. He was certainly royalty, with his pin and fancy dress shirt. But what was royalty doing here, helping a ordinary girl, who was lost? Percy was odd, that was for sure.

Before she could ask him, Annabeth spotted her father, Frederick Chase. For some reason, Annabeth wanted to keep on talking to the Prince. She found him a bit weird, but interesting too.

"Annabeth!" Frederick called out to her in relief. "Where were you? I've been searching for you every- Oh, who this?" He noticed Percy standing off to the side.

Percy looked down, kicking a rock with his foot. "H-hello, sir. I'm Percy."

"Percy... Hm. I've heard that name before," Frederick scratched his chin.

"Percy helped me find you," Annabeth said.

"Oh, thank you, young man! Your parents raised you well. Annabeth, what do you say?"

Annabeth looked away, and fiddled with her hands. "T-thanks." Percy smirked at her, and turned on his heel. He ran off, before Annabeth or Frederick could say anything else.

"A nice young man, that one." Frederick said.

"Yeah right."

He looked at Annabeth, ignoring her remark as if she didn't say anything. "Alright, Annabeth, you can't go getting lost like that again." Annabeth's dad said.

She nodded, and they started to walk back home. She couldn't help but think about that strange boy all the way back. As much as he was weird, he was... Intriguing.

For days Annabeth couldn't help but think about Percy. Annabeth scolded herself for that.

But, about a month later, Annabeth saw him again. He was standing in the front of a well-known bakery, staring at the cookies. Maybe he was hungry? Nobody seemed to pay attention to him, and he was alone. Was no one around to come with him?

Annabeth walked up to him. "What'cha doing?" She watched him jump back surprised.

"Wha- Oh, Annabeth." Percy continued to stare at the cookies hungrily.

"Hungry?" She asked.

"No!" He said. It was bad timing, because that's when his stomach grumbled. He sighed, and frowned. "Alright, fine. I missed lunch."

"Well, come on then!" Annabeth grabbed his hand. "It'll be my treat."

The two of them bought warm bread and of course, cookies. Annabeth didn't know why she was being so nice to him. She didn't know why he was smilling so much at her. She just felt happy- a feeling that she hadn't felt forever.

They went to the park and sat near the fountain. They fed the birds with bread, and watched the fish swim in the crystalline pond. Percy gave lopsided grins and told jokes so unfunny, Annabeth laughed.

"Seaweed brain," Annabeth giggled. Percy looked confused.

"What?"

"Your nickname, because your so thick headed."

"Am not!" He frowned and stuck out his tounge. "Fine. If my nickname is seaweed brain, then yours is Wisegirl."

"Is that supposed to be insulting?" Annabeth laughed as she thought to herself. She was actually having a good time. Which was something she'd never thought she'd say; at least not with him.

It was late afternoon when a tall man dressed in a well-kept suit came to pick up Percy, or 'Prince Perseus' as he said.

"Perseus," He said. "I'm sorry, but you must head back to the palace now."

"Aww.. Ten more minutes? Please?" Percy begged.

The man shook his head, and Percy sighed in disappointment. He finished off the last cookie in his mouth and stood up. As he walked back to the navy blue carriage on the road, he waved back.

"Bye, Annabeth! I hope we see each other again."

Annabeth was sad about him leaving, but she had a feeling she would see him soon. How soon, she didn't know.

"B-bye! I hope so too!"

And so they did.

The two saw each other at the park, the pond, and even the quaint little library that Annabeth liked to go to. Percy always seemed alone. Like her. Percy told her about his family, the mom and Queen he cared so much about and Paul, his kind and smart dad.

For a couple of years, it was just the two of them. Almost every day, they would go to that fountain where they first hung out; it had became something of a tradition.

They visited each other, fought, and baked cookies together. They even went to the same camp together; Camp Half Blood. At camp they bonded even more and met new people. They both made friends- and enemies, too.

They were happy. Everything was fine. Until, of course, when it came the time for... That day.
