The rest of the day had passed fairly quietly.
Jay and Hailey had informed their colleagues of what they had discussed with Logby and after seeing what the others had discovered they found themselves at a standstill. They were then forced to review all the evidence and what they had discovered again.
Jay had gotten the rest of the day off. Not that he had asked for it, but Voight who by now knew him well and considered him like a son, seeing him strange, forced him to go home.
It was around 5pm when he arrived at his apartment. He put away his jacket and keys and made his way to the sofa, throwing himself dead weight on it.
He wanted to watch some TV to get a little distracted, but in the end he found himself zapping through the channels without preferring anything.
Soon his phone started ringing.
The detective was tired, he just wanted to sleep. Despite this, he decided to get up and take his cell phone.
He read the name on the display and seeing it was Will answered.
- Hey little brother - answered a tired and suffering voice - how are you? -
- I'm fine,- Jay said
- I'm glad to hear it. As long as you're telling me the truth. - Will said.
- Yes, I'm telling you the truth quiet. I'm just a little tired. Rather, you've been looking weird since this morning. - he replied.
- Don't worry, I'm fine. It's a busy day and I'm overworked. - Will lied.
- Okay. - Said the detective pretending to believe him.
So the two said goodbye.
Will put the phone down on the nightstand trying to catch his breath. Until that moment he hadn't rested as much as he should have.
He had been told absolute rest, but he was thinking of his brother.
Jay, on the other hand, was about to return to the sofa when the envelope the commander had given him, which he had noticed protruding from his jacket pocket, caught his attention.
He took it while remaining motionless for a few moments to observe it. He turned it over and over in his hands, trying to find the courage to open it. Shortly thereafter, tearing the envelope, he took out the sheet and read its contents.
His hands began to shake and gradually then his whole body. He felt like he lacked air. He dropped the letter to the floor and stood as still as a statue.
