After changing, Dr. Halstead headed for the ER entrance.
- Hi Will,- nurse Meggie said. - be careful of yourself, rest immediately as soon as you get home.
He replied with a weak nod of his head and then greeted her with his hand.
Soon after he was joined by Natalie. She asked him to give her time to change before taking him home.
Will remained standing there waiting for his fiancée. The pains were becoming more and more accentuated, the painkillers given previously were ending their effect.
The doctor, however, tried not to let anyone notice how he really felt fearing that they could keep him in the hospital without making him go away.
A strong nausea took hold of him, however, that doing as quickly as possible, even if in reality all his movements were more or less slow and awkward, he approached Meggie.
- I'm going to the bathroom for a moment, - he told her
So he headed for the corridor where the toilet was. As soon as he entered he found himself bending over the toilet to empty what little was left in his stomach.
It was a mixture of gastric juice and blood.
With each retching he felt excruciating pain and his every breath was short and labored again.
Once recovered, the doctor got up, had previously got on his knees with a lot of effort, and after rinsing his mouth and face he left the bathroom to go to Natalie.
He was going to get her to let him go to Jay.
- Here you are! We sign your resignation papers and we can go home. - Natalie said. - I still can't get over how Jay managed to accidentally hit you and cause you a problem like this. And mostly because, even though he knows how stubborn you are, you didn't want to stay here in the hospital.
- I want to rest at home with my family. - said Will who then added - listen if I went home to Jay you could complete your shift without problems and then we'll see you later I could stay at home with him, you know he needs me. -
- Absolutely not! Let's go home together. Will you realize that what you have had is serious? At most Jay can come to us if you don't want to leave him alone.
You need to rest and I will take care of you. - said Dr. Manning softly even if she was a little angry.
Dr. Halstead couldn't argue, he didn't know how. He might as well have been okay with having Jay at home with him. Provided he accepted. At least he could keep an eye on him as he wanted to.
Having said that, the two headed for the nurses' desk where Meggie, also quite annoyed because she was worried that Will would not stay there in the hospital, had prepared the discharge papers that an increasingly pale Will would have to sign.
As she was about to write, however, a stunned Jay came in the door followed by Dr. Choi.
