It was thanks to the words and the closeness of the colleague that the detective stopped, but without turning to look her in the eyes he exclaimed:

- Go away Hailey.-

- No, I will not leave you, you are my partner, we will always be together, we will cover each other's backs .- she replied.

- No, go away. I have to be alone. - Said the detective, raising the tone of his voice.

- Jay, what are you saying. You don't have to be alone. I am with you, the team is with you, friends, Natalie, your brother... - she added.

The detective tried to be tough on her by pushing her away.

The woman nearly tripped and fell to the ground.

- Here you see, you have to stay away from me, I hurt everyone. - he said with his heart that gradually was filling more and more with a mixture of anger and pain.

Hailey Upton, however, fortunately, was not a type to give up on the first try.

She then continued to repeat what she had said before her, pointing out that everyone was close to him and trying to walk by staying by his side.

Listening to those words Jay, who had tried in every way to be tough, collapsed.

Tears streamed from his eyes. Everything he'd been holding back for an interminable time, after finding out what he'd done to his brother, was finally coming out.

Hailey tried to comfort him, to console him, but the result of her was always that she was pushed away. It was as if the detective had closed himself up again in that shell that only a few hours before he had opened to talk to her about what he was afraid of.

The armor that had formed now was the worst. Much tougher and more leathery than the others he formed when he was in pain.

- Jay don't lock yourself, it's me Hailey. I'm here for you. Talk to me - she said

- Please go away - he said crying - I don't want to hurt you -

- You won't hurt me, Jay! it's me! Why should you? - she asked

- I ... I'm dangerous. Everyone has to stay away from me. I hurt those I love. - The detective shouted

- It's not absolutely true. What happened to Will was a coincidence and Natalie was mad at her boyfriend because she didn't want to be treated properly, she wasn't mad at you. - she tried to explain her partner to him

At that moment Jay collapsed to the ground panting completely exhausted while continuing to cry desperately. This time, however, he was no longer alone, his colleague was at his side.

Hailey held him close to her and in the end he was hugging her with his head on her shoulder with those big tears still streaming from his eyes.

A long time passed and eventually Jay had stopped crying by standing still in the same position, exhausted, keeping his eyes closed or squinted.

He was coughing profusely, his nose was congested and he had a severe headache which together with the cough caused the nausea he had.

Shortly thereafter, Dr. Charles approached them and politely asked Jay to come to the emergency room for help and support.

The psychiatrist had seen everything. However, he had remained on the sidelines to try to understand if the detective could break into the heart of his colleague. And this had happened.
