After Chris closed the door, she let her back slide down against it. She could no longer hold back the tears and cried bitterly. What she didn't know was that Street was still standing in front of her door, listening to her sobs. It broke his heart to hear her like that and to know that there was nothing he could do now. Dejected, he drove home.

Chris threw herself on her sofa, took her pillow in her arms and leaned her face against it. How was she supposed to act toward Street? Why had he revealed his feelings again? Was she really as important to him as he claimed all the time? Thousands of questions rushed through her head and the tears did not decrease. At some point she must have fallen asleep.

Street had arrived home and was glad Luca wasn't there. He immediately went into the bathroom to take a shower. The hot water ran over his body and he leaned his head against the cold shower wall. Why had he made such a mess again? Couldn't he do everything right for once? Chris was more important to him than anyone else in his life and yet he had hurt her, again. Hearing her cry earlier was terrible for him and he had to control himself not to knock on the door again. After the shower he lay down in bed and all the questions went through his head again and again. A sleepless night lay ahead of him...

The days passed and Chris and Street didn't really talk outside of work. The wedding planning was going well, but everyone was doing their tasks for themselves. But tonight that was not possible, because the rehearsal dinner with Bonnie and Tan was coming up and neither of them could cancel for it.

At 6:00 pm the bride and groom were standing in front of the restaurant waiting for their groomsmen. Street was over punctual today for a change, so the only thing missing was Chris. As the latter turned the corner Street immediately noticed a strange feeling in his stomach, a mixture of fear, worry and love. Chris joined the three and greeted Bonnie and Tan each with a hug. For Street, a "hey" and a wave would have to suffice for now; Chris couldn't possibly hug him after their last conversation.

Once inside, they sat down at the reserved table and the waiters also immediately brought the drinks and appetizer. Bonnie told about the appointment with the florist and Tan's adventure with Street when they picked out his suit. Chris was uncomfortable sitting next to Street at the table and she tried to avoid any eye contact. Street sought to make contact with her, but quickly realized there was no point. When the two men had gone outside to discuss something "secret" again, Bonnie took heart and turned to Chris.
"Say, what's going on with Street and you anyway? You're not looking at each other, almost ignoring each other, and well, it's not normal what's going on." Chris was startled by this question and statement, but actually she could guess that it hadn't gone unnoticed.
"We, um, had a bit of an argument, about the decorations for your wedding and yeah, now it's a bit of an ice age." She lied, feeling sorry for not being honest with Bonnie.

Things were no less tense with Street and Tan outside the door.
"Street, I've prepared a special love confession for Bonnie. She doesn't know about it, I want to recite it to her on the beach after the wedding ceremony, alone, but I don't know how to get her there skillfully." Tan looked a little perplexed. Street grinned and looked at him.
"That's a great surprise Tan, Bonnie will be happy about it. We'll get it done, don't worry. I'll talk it over with Chris and we'll find a reason why Bonnie has to come to the beach." When Street thought of Chris he had to sigh for a moment.
"Hey, what's the matter, getting sentimental?" laughed Tan, but when he saw the sad look on his buddy's face, he became serious again.
"Oh Tan it's all hard right now, you know." Street sat down on the stairs, signaling Tan that he wanted to talk.
"I've noticed for a couple of days now that things are very tense between you and Chris. You guys barely talk to each other at HQ, and Chris seems just as sad as you do." Tan sat down with Street.
"If you knew. I really messed up, but really I was just being honest and Chris isn't to himself, that's the biggest problem." Tan's question marks on his face grew.
"Street you're talking all crazy. What's wrong with you guys?" he looked at him and frowned.
"Tan, I love Chris." now it was out and right at that moment Street realized that too. He lowered his head and shook it. "Shit, that's not really what I wanted to tell you right now." Tan was speechless. He knew that Chris and Street were very close, but he didn't realize that Street loved her.
"Chris knows that?"
"Yeah sure, that's why she hardly talks to me anymore. I don't know what I can do to save our friendship anymore." Street was exasperated.
"Hey, since when do you give up so easily? If you're sure Chris feels the same way you do, then fight for her Street." Tan really felt sorry for his friend and Chris too, he needed to talk to Bonnie about it, maybe she knew something. But what worried him the most was the planning of the wedding, he was a bit afraid that Bonnie's and his best day in life might end in a little disaster.

"Chris I may be blonde, but I'm not blind or stupid. Something happened between you and you can't tell me it's because of the decoration. You're such good friends and I've always admired that bond between you. So be honest with me, I'm your friend, you can tell me Chris." Bonnie put a hand on Chris's. Chris took a deep breath and swallowed hard. She knew she had to tell the truth now, but maybe she could leave out the details?

Chris sat at the table with Bonnie and she stared at her food. She couldn't lie to Bonnie, she was her friend and didn't deserve this, especially knowing Street, he couldn't keep his mouth shut for long and it would come out as well as eventually.

"So Chris, what happened?" asked Bonnie again cautiously. Chris took a deep breath and tried to loosen her shoulders a bit, she was that tense.
"A little over two years ago after the fundraiser, I was still with Street, with a bottle of whiskey. We'd been drinking, we were both depressed, and we were talking. A kiss ensued. The kiss was magical, I didn't want to admit that to myself at first, but in the meantime, well... After that everything got complicated, I couldn't look him, Kira or Ty in the eye." Chris elaborated a bit more. "After Erika's death, Street came by my house one night. I wasn't expecting him at all, thought it was Latasha. He wanted to check on me, see how I was doing." She couldn't help but smile at the thought. "Suddenly he started saying he didn't like himself the last few days and it would haunt him even in his sleep. I was confused, I had no idea what he was trying to tell me with that and after I asked him what was going on, I had immediately regretted it again. He said that he wasn't shocked or sad when Erika was lying there, but that he was relieved that it wasn't me. He wouldn't have been able to cope if he had lost me." Chris paused, it hurt to be reminded of that night.
"Wow Chris, you know what that means, don't you? Street really loves you..." Bonnie put a hand over her heart.
"On the way home to Molly, he realized he wanted to be with me and that it would feel wrong to be with her because he only wanted to be with me." Chris frowned at those words. Bringing that back to mind were funny.
"And then how did you react Chris?" She looked at Bonnie.
"Well I threw him out." she said as a matter of course. Bonnie's eyes widened. "Who does he think he is? Comes in here and says things like that to me when he knows there will never be an `us`. And instead of talking to Molly first, he comes to me?! I feel so guilty to Molly Bonnie, I am so sorry for the way Street treated her and all because of me." Chris lowered her head, it hurt to relive those feelings all over again even if she was only talking to Bonnie here and Street continued to be out the door with Tan. In the end she also told Bonnie what happened with the ring and that that had been the final straw.
