Bonnie and Tan stood together in front of the priest. The ceremony was beautiful and some tears flowed. Before the yes - word was spoken, the priest gave Street the sign that he could now step forward. The bride and groom looked at each other in confusion. They knew nothing about this.
Street stood there like a little schoolboy with his piece of paper in his hand. He walked up to the mike and tapped it with his index finger. A loud tap sounded through the speakers followed by a short beep. He grinned cheekily.
"I've always wanted to do that." and all the guests had to laugh. He cleared his throat again, took a deep breath and turned his gaze to the bride and groom. How many times had he practiced the speech with Chris, she already knew it almost by heart, and yet he was very nervous.
"Dear bride and groom, dear guests, now I stand here as best man and I am totally touched. Bonnie, Tan, you two are such a beautiful couple, I am really lucky to call you my friends. The two of you standing here today becoming husband and wife is nothing short of a miracle. I mean, Tan, how many times have you told me that the date has now been postponed again and that Bonnie is already pretty annoyed? I remember a few times. You went through a lot together and you had to overcome some hurdles, but that made you what you are today and that is inseparable. When I look at the two of you I see a dream couple, which is by no means ordinary, normal or even boring. I could sing a song about it now, but I'd rather spare you from that." a loud laugh went through the rows and everyone followed Street's words attentively.
"Just thinking about how you two met, that wasn't normal, was it Bonnie?" he looked at her and Bonnie slapped her hands over her face, embarrassed, because she knew what Street was getting at.
"Dear guests, probably not everyone present here knows how the two of them met and so I will now tell you briefly with pleasure. Bonnie was drinking a coffee, now you think, hm actually unspectacular, but she was in a cafe, where preferably cops drank their coffee. And so it happened that our dear Tan walked in there one day and Bonnie found him hot and sexy in his uniform, by the way, that's called a badge bunny." Bonnie and Tan looked at each other, kissed briefly and laughed boisterously as did the rest of the guests.
"It's not like Bonnie doesn´t look good, so you couldn't blame Tan for falling for her. And that's how the story of the two began. When I think of your Valentine's Day date, I could still curl up laughing today. Tan thought Bonnie would be dying to propose and came to HQ with a giant stuffed bear, but Bonnie was rather relieved when Tan didn't say the magic words. How many times did we tease Tan about it after that? I don't remember, but it was fun every time." Luca, Deac, and Hondo applauded briefly and laughed extra loud.
"Who can remember the gummy bear - drug - story? Well, I have it in my mind's eye like it was yesterday. Luckily we have such a great boss and Bonnie has a great eye, otherwise who knows how the whole thing would have turned out for our Tan. You guys got through this too and it just made you even closer. I admire your strength and that you trust each other blindly. Which brings us to the marriage proposal, or well, it was supposed to be one, but Tan messed up the second one too. Dude, you better practice that kind of thing in the future." Street winked at him and Tan laughed.
"We all thought at first that Bonnie was now fed up with Tan and his dangerous job, but no, she would not be deterred so easily. On the contrary, she loves Tan for his courage, fighting spirit and fearlessness. And Bonnie, I can tell you one thing today, Tan was really scared shitless to lose you. Long story short. I love you two, we all do and I wish you nothing but the very best from the bottom of my heart. Be happy, always honest with each other and hold on tight, never let each other out of your sight, because together you are perfect." At these words he automatically had to look briefly at Chris and she looked as if she had tears in her eyes. She smiled lovingly at him. "So now I'll turn the floor back over to the gentleman here so we can finally cheer." All the guests stood up and applauded Street. Bonnie and Tan had gotten up, walked to him and hugged him warmly.
The celebration was in full swing and all the guests were having a great time. Bonnie and Tan seemed so happy and enjoyed the good times with their families and friends. They were dancing and having fun.
"Bonnie, let's go a little closer to the sea." Tan held out his hand to her and Bonnie nodded, beaming. They were both barefoot and enjoying the cool sand along with the starry night sky. When they arrived at the ocean, Bonnie lifted her dress up a bit so the water could cool her feet.
"Oh that feels good after all that dancing." she laughed.
"Absolutely. My feet hurt so bad, I think I need to sit down for a while." and already Tan had dropped into the sand. Bonnie did the same and leaned her head against his shoulder.
"I love the sea. When I was a kid, I used to come out here and look out into the open, and I knew that when I grew up, I really wanted to surf." Bonnie listened intently and stroked his arm up and down with her fingers.
"I see, so this was your secret spot, so to speak?" she concluded. Tan just nodded, looked at her and kissed her.
"Bonnie today was the best day of my life and I still can't believe we are married now." he looked out to sea again.
"I feel the same way Victor. The day was just perfect and that's thanks to Chris and Street. They went to so much trouble."
"Oh yeah, who would have thought after all that drama that those two would still get together and pull off something so great." They both looked at each other, totally in love, and kissed again. Tan reached into his pants pocket with one hand and pulled out a piece of paper.
"Ehm, I have something else prepared for you my darling." he got a little jittery and stood up. Bonnie looked at him confused and accepted his hand with which he pulled her to her feet. Tan held one of Bonnie's hands in his, the other shakily holding the note.
"Victor? Are you okay?" Bonnie looked at him questioningly.
"Yeah. I just need to take another breath." after he really did that he gathered all his courage and started.
"Bonnie, you are the love of my life. I - I'm the luckiest man in the whole world today and I never want to miss you. You bring the sunshine into my life every day and also chaos, but I love that chaos. When we were shot at that time, I was terrified of losing you, I would have gone crazy, believe me. Do you remember the first meeting with my mom? I was so nervous and afraid that she wouldn't behave appropriately towards you, but you liked each other right away, that meant a lot to me. Bonnie, I want to go to the ends of the earth with you and always carry you on my hands. I love you so much." Bonnie was crying and she was speechless. Tan pulled her into his arms and kissed her deeply.
"Victor, I love you more than anything. Thank you so much for your words, they came right in here." she grabbed her heart with her hand. Together and tightly embraced, they stood there for a few more moments, looking out to sea.
"Come, let's go to our guests, not that they still turn our party upside down." both had to laugh and went back hand in hand.
Chris watched what was happening and was lost in thought. She saw her friends, everyone had a very special person with them today. Hondo had Jess, Luca seemed so carefree with Tuana and Deac and Annie, yes what could you say, the dream couple badly. Only she sat on her chair, alone and longed at that moment for nothing more than a person who was close to her and who accepted her as she was...
"Beautiful lady, may I ask you for this dance?" came from behind her and she was startled when the person snapped her out of her thoughts. She turned around, only to look into Street's beaming eyes. She involuntarily raised an eyebrow and looked at him skeptically.
"Well what is it? Ready for a dance Chris?" he held out his hand to her and somewhat hesitantly Chris took it. She wasn't quite sure herself if this was a good idea, but if she was honest with herself, she wanted nothing more at that moment than to be close to him and have fun, just like her friends.
Once on the dance floor, the band played "Bad ideas" by Alle Farben. Chris had to roll her eyes.
"Did you arrange that? Come on Street admit it!" she laughed. He just shrugged and put his right arm around her waist. Briefly, Chris sucked in a breath and held hers. It felt so good, she had to admit to herself. The two moved to the beat of the music and their bodies were very close. Chris kept looking shyly into Street's eyes and then away again. Street couldn't help it and had to grin. They swayed back and forth and suddenly Street moved away from Chris, only to lead her into a spin. Chris was visibly impressed and when Street pulled her close again she grinned.
"What?" he said with a smile.
"Well I'll have to say, I never thought you could dance that well." she said in praise. Street looked proud and pleased. He came close to her and almost touched her ear with his lips.
"Oh Chris, I can do so much more." goosebumps and wide eyes came over Chris.
Oh Chris, I can do so much more.
During the dance, Chris was haunted all the time by these words of Street. Time seemed to stand still and she enjoyed being close to him very much. Again and again she inhaled the scent of his aftershave and God, it almost drove her crazy.
Street was no different. His grip on Chris' waist never loosened, he just couldn't and wouldn't let go of her. He smelled her hair and he had to control himself not to do something stupid here and now. Chris was driving him crazy.
The song was long over and the next one was blaring from the speakers, but Chris and Street weren't going to end this dance.
"Chris." whispered Street in her ear, which gave her goosebumps again. She couldn't answer, afraid to look him in the eye, so she just nodded noticeably at his shoulder. "I could stand here with you forever and hold you, you know that?" a little afraid of her reaction, but he didn't need to be, because Chris answered him very directly. She tightened her grip around his back and touched his ear with her lips.
"I can't believe I'm saying this, but Street, I feel the same way. Please just hold me." he didn't need to be told twice and they enjoyed the moment to the fullest. After some time, Chris broke away from Street, but only to take him by the hand and lead him to a more secluded area.
Street was nervous and unsure at the same time. What was Chris doing here now? Was she getting brave and going to stand by her feelings that she never wanted to admit until now?
Chris told Street to sit on the log and she followed him. Both looked out to sea and listened to the waves. Chris closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Street didn't move his head, he just squinted a bit over at her to see a reaction from her.
"Chris." he was looking at her now and she turned her head to him as well. "That dance was magical. I - I wanted that moment to never end, and I sensed you felt the same way. You showed me clearly." he looked at Chris hopefully. Now all her nervousness was back. She wanted Street to realize that she never wanted this moment to end either, but what was she supposed to do now?
