GH4 21: 90s Day.

Three Days Later...

September 30th, (2024)

Miss Preston stood in front of her desk in the history class of Montana middle school, with a red blind-fold over her eyes.

"Almost time." I said.

"For pete sake, Charlotte, what is it?" Miss Preston asked.

"You may remove the blind-fold, but keep your eyes closed." I said.

Miss Preston removed the blind-fold, but kept her eyes closed as instructed.

"Now open them." I said.

Miss Preston opened her eyes.

"SURPRISE!" HAPPY 90s DAY!" The kids and i shouted, sitting at our desks, wearing 90s kids-clothes and shoes, with our hair styled like the 90s. And we had all of the items Miss Preston had given us on our desks, with the 90s cellphone resting on mine. There was also a banner up over the door that read "HAPPY 90s DAY".

I wore a white 90s short sleeve shirt, 90s blue shorts that went past my thighs, white socks, and white 90s sneakers.

"Oh, my gosh, what is this?!" Miss Preston asked amazed, dropping the blind-fold to the floor.

"It's a holiday!" I said excitedly.

"For you." A 10-year old boy added.

"For me?" Miss Preston asked, mind-blown.

"That's right, for you. I called up my friends last night, filled them in on this idea, and asked them to spread the word to all of the other kids here in class-which they did, by the way-and...here we are." I explained.

"You mean this whole thing was your idea?" Miss Preston asked.

"Yeah, it was. But the other kids here helped too. So did all of our parents by ordering these 90s kids-clothes and shoes we're wearing off of Amazon. Imagine my surprise when it all get here the very next morning. If it wasn't for our parents, we never could've pulled off such a holiday. We also had them order movies from the 90s for us to watch, so...we pretty much spent the weekend at home, watching 90s movies. And now here we are, celebrating this new holiday for the first time." I said.

"Wait. Holiday?" Miss Preston asked.

"That's right. From this day forward, September 30th shall be known as '90s Day'. A holiday that celebrates the 1990s decade and honors it's memories." I said.

"Wow. That's so wonderful. Thank you. Thank you all very much. I'm really proud of you. Especially you, Charlotte. Because you not only did and passed another history project, you did something that will make history. Why, if i didn't known any better, i'd say you really did live in the 90s." Miss Preston said.

"Sure...let's go with that." I said. Little did she know i really had lived in the 90s, but i'd keep that between me and Olive. Not that she'd believe me anyway.

"So how did it feel living in the 90s?" Miss Preston asked.

"Very...gratifying...impowering...and...humbling." I answered.

"Nice." Miss Preston said.

"You know, i thought about you...my Mom and my Dad...and how all three of you and all of the parents of the other kids in this class grew up in the 90s...and how you all have done so much for our generation. And we weren't about to let them or you down." I said.

"You are so growing up. All of you. But you still have to finish middle school and high school." Miss Preston said.

"Hahahahahaha!" The other kids and i laughed.

"Congratulations, kids. You've just done something no kid in the world has ever done before. You've made history." Miss Preston said.

"Well, they say you can't judge an era while you're in it. The 90s proved that saying to be wrong. Living in that decade these last three days was astounding and it was the best time to grow in as a kid." I said.

"Wow, you sure have gotten a lot out of living in the 90s for three days, huh?" Miss Preston said.

"You have no idea." I said.

"Well...let's hear your history report." Miss Preston said.

"My what?" I asked.

"Charlotte-"

"Oh, i'm just kidding." I said, cutting Miss Preston off. "I got it right here in my pocket." I reached in my right shorts pocket and got out a folded up piece of paper, followed by getting up from my desk, going up to Miss Preston, and turning to face the class, and unfolding the paper as she picked up the blind-fold and placed it on her desk, followed by stepping aside, allowing me to have enough room and sitting down in her rolling-chair at her desk.

I began to read my report to the class. "My name is Charlotte Web, i'm 10 years old, and i was born in Paris, Texas February 4th, 2014. In today's report, i'm going to be talking about the 1990s decade and how it got us where we are now. So here i go. The 90s era began 34 years ago on January 1st, 2024, and ended on December 31st, 1999. We've come along way since then...and we're still making progress. The 90s Day holiday will make history...but sadly it doesn't mean that it changes everything and everyone's hearts and minds of today's time. But that doesn't mean we're gonna stop reminding people where we come from. No, it doesn't. And the struggle to get to a new century is real. I'm here today to celebrate with all of the 2010s/20s kids who's parents were kids themselves in the 90s. We shall not forget the decade our parents came out of. Think of your families. Think of your parents, aunts and uncles who grew up in the 90s and need you to carry on the memories of that time. Think of your Grandmothers and Grandfathers and great Grandparents who never got the chance to be in the era you're in today. I want to include everyone in the memories of the 1990s. I understand now...that the 90s weren't just an era or decade or the last ten years if the 20th century. It was lifetime that played a huge role in where we are today. The End."

Miss Preston and the whole class applauded, with the kids' cheering and whistling, congratulating me on a job well done.

I just smiled. "Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you." I said as the applauding, cheering and whistling continued.
