A/N: WARNING, cringe ahead.
(Also I changed the seating arrangements in the classrooms to table groups rather then just lines because those are the necessary vibes we're serving here in this fanfic)
Chapter 1
The front doors banged shut behind her as the bell rung, leaving a hollowed echo in the empty hallways.
Great, she thought. Late on the first day.
Beelining to the first door on her left, she tried to swallow her nerves. Maybe the first day wouldn't be that bad? Maybe she could find people like her at this school, other goths, and find a place where she belonged.
She slunk through the door and toddled up to the front desk, knocking on the counter a little to get the secretary's attention. "Um, excuse me?"
Upon meeting her gaze, the front secretary's face washed over with a moment of panic, before she regained her stature and plastered on a smile. She wasn't surprised; people usually jumped when they saw her, a matter she blamed for her bright pink hair and heavy eyeliner (and probably the rest of her clothes tbh)
"Sweetheart, hi! What can I do for you?" the lady said sweetly.
"Um, I'm new here, It's my first day and I'm not really sure where to go."
The lady put a hand over her heart, as if she's just watched a stray puppy get rescued, and jumped to her feet. "Welcome to Bremin High!" she exclaimed, offering a handshake. "I'm Marg, I'm the head office lady, It's nice to meet you sweetie."
"Aw, thank you," she beamed taking her hand. "I'm Brooke, Brooke Anderson, it's nice to meet you too!"
'Brooke Anderson," Marg repeated, turning to her keyboard and typing something in. "Found you! I'll get your schedule printed out for you," she said, already moving towards the printer.
This lady is an actual angel on earth, the young girl thought, watching as she snatched the paper fresh from the printer and placed it in her hands.
"Looks like you have science first up, since you missed Homeroom. Did you need me to walk you there, sweetie?"
Brooke nodded so hard she was worried her head would come flying off her neck. Maybe this school really wasn't gonna be so bad after all!
As soon as she walked in, everyone's eyes were on her. It only took about three seconds for the snickers and murmurs to kick in, and Brooke gazed to the floor in embarrassment. Her worst fear was of everyone staring at her and judging her.
"Mr Bates, this is Brooke Anderson," Marg said, a hand placed on the girl's shoulder. "She's new here and is going to be in your class from now on."
"Thank you, Margret, I'll take her from here," spoke the man Marg had referred to as 'Mr Bates'
Her heart plummeted when Marg disappeared out the door after that, and she had to retain eye contact with her new teacher.
"Everyone!" announced Mr Bates, grabbing Brooke's arm.
Why don't you just kick me in the face? she thought.
"This is our new student, Brooke."
A round of hoots and cheers erupted from the back table as a boy with curly blond hair and his mates obnoxiously applauded the girl. The teacher looked more then done with them.
"I want you to all make her feel comfortable during her time here-"
"I know how to her get her right comfortable," the curly blond yelled, grabbing his crotch. The boys around him hollered, rejoicing in their very own 5-star comedian. Brooke felt the depths of her soul cringe in agony.
"Shut up, Jake," Mr Bates sighed. Brooke could tell these things were a regular kind of occurrence by the way her teacher had that 'why-did-I-become-an-educator' look in his eyes. "Brooke, you can sit over there with Felix."
Her heart caught in her throat upon seeing the boy Mr Bates called Felix. He was perched at an empty cluster of tables in the back corner of the room, gangly limbs overflowing his seat. Her eyes traced his black gothic clothing and shaggy black hair, before meeting his piercing green eyes. Her face rose to a smile, as she saw Felix's face twist into a grin.
Well what do ya know? she thought. Someone just like me...
