Happy Tuesday everyone! I'm finally starting to update this weekly (I know, it's taken me forever!) and am ALMOST FINISHED WITH THE WHOLE STORY! This doesn't mean I'm done posting, I just write the chapters ahead of time. There will still be plenty more to come, trust me Xp
For those of you who missed the previous chapter for various reasons, the main plot points you need to know are that Kurt and Rachel got into Juilliard and left Ohio to start their lives in college! Kurt met his roommate who's name is Gabe, and they're becoming quick friends. Him and Blaine are also trying to navigate long distance the best they can, but it's really taking a toll on them already.
That's pretty much all that happened! If you have any questions about previous chapters my inbox is always open.
As always:
I do NOT own Glee or any of the characters
If you notice any grammatical errors don't hesitate to reach out!
I still have pages of this story saved, so let me know if you'd be interested in seeing more chapters in the future!
Now that that's out of the way, let's begin!
"Are you sure you have to go? It feels like we're just starting to get in the swing of things." Gabe pouted, flopping onto his bed. "You could just stay here, tons of people do. We could do whatever you want."
Kurt sighed. "Gabe, as much as I'd love to spend two weeks with your girl crazy friend group, I really want to use this time to see my family. I promised them I'd come visit."
"I know... when are you leaving?"
"Around noon. My dad just texted, he's almost here." Kurt threw another shirt into his bag, careful not to wrinkle it. "I'll be back soon, then we can rehearse for the musical together."
"I'll make sure to go over the music so I'm not completely clueless." Gabe joked. "Are you gonna head back home every time we have a break? Not trying to judge or anything, I'm just saying."
"I know what you mean. And no, I'm not going to visit all the time. Just most of the time." Kurt zipped up the bag he'd finished packing, setting it by the door. "Why are you complaining? You get the whole dorm to yourself. It's the perfect opportunity to get some hook ups in."
"You have a point. There is this super cute girl in my math class."
Kurt rolled his eyes. "You sure are desperate." His phone buzzed, and he glanced down. "It's my dad, he's outside. I'll see you in a few days."
"Say hi to the family for me! Oh, and the boyfriend." Gabe winked teasingly.
Kurt ignored this, picking up his wallet from its spot by the door. "I will. Don't be too bad when I'm away."
"I'll try my best!"
Kurt shook his head jokingly, leaving the room and closing the door behind him. He headed towards the stairs, butterflies in his stomach. He was so excited to see his parents and Blaine- the last couple months had been fun but also really difficult. He rounded the corner to the lobby, smiling once at the lady behind the desk before opening the door and stepping outside.
His father was waiting for him, and as soon as he saw him coming towards the car he ran over, giving his son a long hug. "Oh my gosh, I missed you! It's been super weird not having you at home."
Kurt smiled at his father. "I missed you too. College has been great so far, but it's nothing compared to the comfort of home."
Burt opened the car door, stepping aside. "Get in and tell me all about it."
Kurt did just that, and they talked the whole way. After a couple of snack breaks they finally arrived back home and were greeted by huge hugs from Carole and Finn.
"Dude, you've missed so much! Rachel and I are officially back together." Finn exclaimed, eyes filled with excitement. After she'd left for college they'd taken a quick break, but now they were back on.
"That's great, I'm so happy you two worked things out!" Kurt took his bag from the car, swinging it over one shoulder. "Can you help me carry some stuff upstairs?"
"Sure!"
As soon as everything was unloaded they ate dinner. Kurt's mouth was practically dripping at the taste and smell of Carole's cooking. Ramen was good, but only for a certain period of time. He really missed her home cooked meals, and scarfed down three bowls of fried rice.
"You sure were hungry." Carole joked. "How's school been? Tell us about this roommate of yours, from what I've heard he seems interesting."
Kurt laughed, wiping his mouth on a napkin. "Oh, he sure is. Gabe's super nice, he showed me around the whole school on my first day and gave me a ton of tips. Oh, and he plays the guitar."
"Awesome, I want to meet him sometime." Finn took a bite of rice, washing it down with some water. "Do you have any classes with Rachel?"
"No, I haven't even seen her since we arrived. I'm pretty sure most of her classes are in the other building." Kurt explained. When there was no response he gave his brother a look, elbowing him gently in the ribs. "You should go see her, I bet she's home by now."
Finn looked hesitant. "Are you sure? This is kind of your night, I don't want to just leave."
"Go. It's fine, really." Kurt picked up his plate, setting it down in the sink. "I was gonna go see Blaine anyway."
Finn nodded. "Okay, maybe I will. Thanks for dinner mom."
"Of course. Have fun, you two."
"Kurt, you're home!" Blaine ran to his boyfriend, hugging him tightly. "Oh my god I missed you. I want to hear all about Juilliard."
Kurt chuckled, sitting down across from Blaine on his bedroom floor. "What do you want to know?"
"What's it like? Is the theatre department really as good as they claim to be? What's Gabe like?" Blaine asked, taking his boyfriend by the hand.
"Wow, you sure have a lot of questions. Juilliard is great, the people there are really nice, including Gabe. Oh, and the theatre program seems amazing. I haven't really experienced it firsthand yet, but musical auditions are coming up."
"What musical are they doing?"
"The Wizard of Oz. I have no idea who to audition for."
"Hmm, I think you'd make a good lion. Oh, or maybe Toto." Blaine joked, ruffling his boyfriend's hair.
"You think so? Because I could be down with that." Kurt whispered, moving closer before kissing him. "Wow, I've missed this so much."
"I know, kiss emojis just aren't the same." Blaine leaned back in, continuing to kiss his boyfriend.
Kurt's hand traveled downwards, stopping to tug at the waistline of Blaine's jeans.
Blaine immediately broke away, scooting back slightly. "Um, I'm not sure if we should do that right now. It's probably not the best time."
Kurt nodded, confused. "Alright. Is everything okay? We were just joking around a second ago and now you're getting weird."
"Yeah, everything's fine. I'd just rather hear about your college experience." Blaine's eyes flitted over everything in the room except his boyfriend.
Kurt nodded slowly. "That's fine, we don't have to have sex. I guess I'm just kind of confused. Usually you're the one trying to take my pants off, but suddenly you don't want to."
Blaine shrugged. "It's not that I don't want to, I just don't know when my mom will get home. Besides, talking is better anyway."
"What do you want to talk about?" Kurt crossed his legs, leaning against Blaine's bed.
"I don't know..." Blaine suddenly seemed nervous. "Now that I think about it I have a ton of schoolwork to catch up on. Maybe you should go."
Kurt felt a pang in his chest. Blaine rarely got upset, and it was scaring him. "Okay... do you want to come over tomorrow? I'd love to hang out some more."
"Maybe, I'm not sure." Blaine was busy digging through his backpack, taking out a notebook and pen. "I'll text you."
Kurt gave a small nod as he stood. "Alright. Um, goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Kurt left his boyfriend's house, more confused than ever.
Burt's head snapped up at the sound of the shop door opening. He set down the screwdriver he'd been using, staring at his son. "Kurt? What're you doing here?"
Kurt gave a sigh, leaning against a red car near the one his father was working on. "I need some advice."
"I figured. You're always talking about how much you hate coming in here because of all the grime." Burt joked, picking up a wrench. "For real though, what's up?"
"I think Blaine's mad at me. I don't know what I did but he's acting way weirder than usual." Kurt checked his phone, shaking his head. "I invited him over almost two hours ago. I'm worried."
Burt stood, wiping his hands on his pants. "I'm sure he'll come around. It's probably kind of weird to be seeing each other after spending so long apart."
Kurt nodded, considering this. "Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe I'll give him a call."
Just as Kurt was about to leave the shop his phone dinged, starling him. "It's Blaine, he's on his way. I guess I should talk to him."
"Good luck. And I'm sure everything's fine." Burt reassured, closing the hood of the vehicle. "Why don't you head home? I still have some things to finish up around here. Unless you wanna stay and help out?"
"And get my clothes greasy? Not a chance." Kurt joked. "Thanks dad."
"You're welcome."
Kurt quickly messaged Blaine that he was on his way home, stopping to pick up some coffee. When he arrived he immediately noticed Blaine's car in the driveway. Kurt parked in the garage, heading inside to find Blaine sitting on the couch.
"Hey, thanks for coming over." Kurt said with a smile, sitting next to him. He picked up one of the coffees, handing it to his boyfriend. "I got you this."
Blaine took the drink, setting it next to him on the table. "Thanks, you didn't have to do that."
"I wanted to. Besides, it's Saturday. Everything's fifty percent off."
"Right." Blaine's face was expressionless as he crossed and recrossed his legs. "Kurt, I need to talk to you about something."
"Okay, what's going on? You know you can tell me anything." Kurt took Blaine by the hand, moving closer so their faces were inches apart. "Blaine, if this is about the whole situation the other night I'm sorry. I should've asked you if you wanted to."
"It's not that." Blaine paused, and Kurt could feel him shaking. "While you were away stuff happened."
Kurt nodded slowly. "I'm listening. Is it your parents?"
"No, it's just..." Blaine fidgeted some more, clearly uncomfortable. "There's not really an easy way to say this."
"Blaine, whatever it is, I'm here for you." Kurt gave him a kiss, lifting his chin so he was forced to look him in the eye. "Tell me."
Blaine scanned his boyfriend's face, tears in his eyes. "Kurt... I cheated on you."
Kurt felt his face pale. He was in shock. He watched as Blaine fell apart, tears trickling down his face.
"Kurt, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to, I just... I missed you so much and I didn't know what to do about it. I'm so sorry, I really am..." Blaine rambled.
"When?" Kurt blurted, interrupting Blaine's word vomit.
"Is that important?"
"I deserve to know. When did you cheat? And with who?" Kurt's voice was scary, scarier than ever before.
"Kurt-"
"Tell me." Kurt said forcefully, moving to the other side of the couch so there was a large gap between them. "Do I know them?"
Blaine gave a sigh of defeat. "No. I met him at an art show downtown. I don't even remember his name. It was about a month ago."
Kurt couldn't speak. His body wasn't working. He physically felt in pain as he sat there. "Did you…?"
"Yes." Blaine whispered. "But it was only a one time thing, I felt awful afterwards. There were absolutely no feelings involved, I swear-"
"Stop talking." Kurt interrupted, jumping up. "Blaine, I really thought we had something special. I wanted to come home to see you. To love you. Hell, I was going to marry you! I wanted to buy a house together and raise kids! I was even considering maybe getting a dog even though I hate furry animals!"
"Kurt, I still want that! I want to be with you!" Blaine pleaded. "We can still do all of those things! Please, just give me another chance." He reached for Kurt's hand, but he pulled it away.
"No." Kurt was the one crying now, eyes red with rage. "Don't touch me."
"Kurt-"
"Get out of my house. I don't want to ever see you again." Kurt glared, watching as Blaine timidly obliged. "Oh, and here's this back." He pulled the ring from his finger, thrusting it in Blaine's direction.
Blaine's eyes flashed with hurt. He picked the ring up from the ground, sticking it in his pocket. He gave Kurt one final glance before walking out the door.
