It's been far to long! Long story short I got locked out of my old email for this account and I couldn't remember the password to get into my account for this for so long. I just happened to get lucky and remembered my password so that I changed it to another email that I have set up for this so now it won't take me years to post stuff on here anymore and I can start posting stories on here again. Which means I can get to the next part of the series that I have planned for Cassandra.
Cassandra sat up in her bed and stretched, she blinked a few times and shielded her eyes from the morning sunlight. Jake had been staying with her at her house that weekend to upset to focus on work, his brother and sister-in-law had been trying for a baby for years and when it finally seemed like it was going to happen he had gotten a call from his brother letting him know that the doctor's had found something wrong with the baby and that they were heading in that Sunday so that Jake's sister-in-law could just have her water broken. Luckily Chance was both understanding and busy since Adler had gotten sick and both he and Felina had taken off to take care of him so they had both decided that it would be best to just close the garage for the weekend. Jake had stayed in the guest room since he was used to going to bed a bit earlier than her so they decided that it was best for him to sleep in a separate bed while he was there. She got out of her bed and walked over to her dresser and picked up her brush and began to brush her hair.
She had a small smile on her face despite the fact of what was going to be happening that day. Jake had arrived about an hour after they had closed the garage and she had done everything she could think of to keep his mind off of the fact that his little nephew was already sick. She put her brush down once she was sure she had brushed all of the knots and kinks out of it when she realized that she could smell something, she sniffed at the air and she realized that Jake was downstairs cooking something for the two of them. She walked downstairs and stood in the kitchen doorway Jake was standing at her stove in nothing but his shorts making something. She moved so that she could see better and saw that he was making french toast for the two of them, she loved Jake's french toast since he seemed to make it with just the right amount of eggs and butter and milk and he knew exactly when a side had been cooked just right. She quickly walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him while purring, Jake looked at her with a smile and continued to cook the last few pieces of french toast.
"So did the food wake you up or did the sun?" he asked.
"Nope. Woke up all on my own this time. I'm a big girl now Jake. I should be able to color inside the lines now." she joked and Jake stopped what he was doing to laugh.
"Sweetie if you still can't color inside the lines you have so many things to learn to do." he said with a laugh.
"You mean how to tie my shoes all by myself? But I like it when you tell me that little rhyme." she said faking horror and Jake lost it. He quickly put the last piece of toast on the plate and turned the stove off before he leaned on the counter and fell into a laughing fit. They sat at the table and ate in silence once he had gotten his laughter under control and they both worked on putting the dishes away. Cassandra hadn't missed the look of worry that crossed Jake's face no matter what she had tried he hadn't been able to take his mind off of what was about to happen fully. Cassandra cursed the fact that they still had several hours to go before they headed off to the hospital to meet up with his family, they sat in the living room and watched a few movies before Jake let out a sigh and got up from the couch.
"I can't focus. We have to be at the hospital in two and a half hours and I can't think of anything but what's going to happen." he told her as he paced. Cassandra let out a sigh and stopped the movie before she got up and walked over to him.
"I know. I've been trying to stay calm because there's no point in both of us freaking out but it's just not working." she told him as she gently took his hands in hers. "How about we go back upstairs and try to relax up there? You know, meditate or something." she offered.
"Well we've tried everything else and it's failed. Maybe we do need somewhere quiet to deal with this." Jake said and he followed her up the stairs and into her room. Jake made himself comfortable on her bed and opened his arms for her to crawl into, Cassandra sat on the bed before she crawled up to him and layed down. Neither one of them said anything for several minutes and Cassandra could feel both Jake's and her nerves, this wasn't going to work if neither one of them talked about this.
"He's going to be okay Jake. I've known you long enough to know that anyone from your family is a fighter." she told him. She had never had the chance to meet his family face to face, his parents lived one state over and his brother and sister-in-law worked two cities over from MegaKat City and their schedules had never lined up with theirs. She had talked to them on the phone several times though and she hoped that they thought of her as a member of the family just like she considered them her family. Jake let out a sigh and he started to gently rub her back.
"I know. It's just that he's going to be so tiny and weak as it is. This is the earliest he can be born and possibly survive and there's still no guarantee that he'll make it." he told her and she felt his chest heave. She quickly put a hand on his chest and sat up a little bit.
"He is going to make it. Something tells me that he's a fighter. He's had whatever this is that's making him sick so far and he's still alive." she told him. Jake looked away from her for a minute and she could tell that he was trying not to cry.
"I keep thinking. What if the reason he's sick is because there's something wrong with my brother. What if my brother can't have healthy babies? What if my family just has sick children?" Jake said and Cassandra looked at him confused.
"Ooookay. You've lost me Jake. What are you talking about?" she asked and Jake let out a sniff.
"I never told you because I was afraid that it would discourage you from being with me. But apparently my brother and I were sickly babies. My father was sickly and so on and so forth, my family has a history of not having very healthy children." he told her. He looked up at her and he saw her just staring back at him.
"And? Jake. I've had powers literally all my life. A sick kid is the least of my worries. At least if they're sick they're still normal. If they had my powers...they'd just be freaks." she said looking away and Jake sat up.
"Stop that. I've told you a million times that you are normal! So what if you have powers? Your ancestor had them and her sister had them. You're not the first to have powers and I'm sure you won't be the last. And any children you have will be normal to powers or no powers." he told her and Cassandra looked at him wide eyed.
"Any children I have? What...what about us." she asked, feeling her heart break.
"Oh! Oh no I didn't mean it like that" Jake said putting his hands up "I was just saying that because well. Come on Cass are you really willing to put up with me forever?" he asked. He had seen the looks other kats gave her, hell he had given her those same looks tons of times when they first met. Many of the ones that looked at her in that way were wealthier than him, could give her more than he could. He had figured that it would only be a matter of time before she realized it and got tired of being with some ex-Enforcer junk yard mechanic.
"Yes." she answered in a whisper not looking at him. Jake stared at her for a few seconds not sure if he had heard her correctly or not.
"Yes?" he asked surprised.
"Yes." she answered, nodding her head as well. Jake pulled her into a hug and he felt his heart soaring, and then an image of a ring he had seen in a jewelry store window popped into his mind. It was nice, it had three diamonds set in it the two on either side were slightly smaller than the middle one. It was two carats so it wasn't very big but it was in his price range and he was sure that she'd love it nonetheless. He didn't consider this an official proposal so he made a mental note to go back to the store when he had the time and to buy it. Cassandra pulled away from him and smiled up at him before leaning forward and giving him a kiss "You know we still have two hours left right?" she asked with a grin. Jake's mouth fell open and he stared at her in surprise and waited for her to start laughing, she just sat and smiled at him and he took a quick look at the clock before doing some quick mental math and pulling her back over to himself.
