This is a prompt that I have received from Keeperofmagick, along with a few others which he has given me. I have written up the first three chapters of this story, though I only have chapters 1 and part of chapter 2 typed up. it'll be a week before I upload the next chapter for this story, and if anyone is wondering about my other stories well I have almost completed the type up for the next chapter for raised in the shadows, as well as the write up for the next chapter of Takato x Renamon adventure (when that chapter is up I will be changing the name of the story to Rexta)
As I have said before, Keeperofmagick has given me quite a few prompts, ones that I gratefully accepted as they not only sounded like an interesting story to write up, but they also include some of my favorite pairings. Anyway, I shall leave you with this chapter, hopefully, you all enjoy it.
I do not own How to train your dragon.
*Start*
Hiccup was currently making his way towards the cove, Dragon training had finished an hour ago (he would've left sooner, but many of the villagers had kept him stuck in the village so they could celebrate his success). In three days, it would be the second to last match of training, him against Astrid to see who would get to kill the monstrous nightmare. He planned to throw the match, as he no longer wanted to kill a dragon, or rather COULD no longer kill a dragon after meeting his best friend Toothless, a night fury. He learned from him everything he now know's about dragons, and how wrong his ancestors were for killing them as if it was some kind of sport. Dragons weren't mindless creatures, they had sentience, they cared for those that were special to them. Dragons played, they joked, they laughed and had conversations with one another, some even smiled. He no longer had the will to continue on with the bloodshed that his kind was so adamant on continuing, But this also leads him to the question, one that has been plaguing his mind since meeting Toothless and learning what he no knows, what does he want and what can a hiccup like him do. He was so deep in thought that he did not notice that he had someone tailing him since he entered the forest.
'….Maybe i could show everyone, show them that what we know about dragons is wrong. with this newfound popularity may-' his train of thought had been cut off, as he was tackled to the ground rather harshly. this followed by a very familiar axe slashing right by his left ear, almost cutting it off.
"A-as-Astrid, wha-what-" His stuttering came to a stop when suddenly flipped around by Astrid, who then stepped onto his throat. He began wheezing as she starts putting more weight onto his throat, causing him to lose his ability to breathe.
"what the FUCK hiccup!" she snarls at him, putting even more pressure onto his neck, taking some sick pleasure watching him squirm and struggle to breathe. after a few more seconds of watching him squirm, she removed her foot from his throat and then harshly kicked him in the stomach. This took the little air he had been able to take in, out of him.
"Answer my question useless!" She screeches, kicking him again a few times.
"Wh-what are *cough-cough* as-asking me," He wheezed, slowly trying to get up. Before he could though, Astrid kicked him in the face knocking him back a few feet as well as giving him a broken bloody nose.
"What am I asking you!? are you THAT FUCKING STUPID!" she screeches, dashing towards him and stomping onto his chest. she growls as she leans in, a dark look on her face.
"FINE! I'll ask again, who the fuck has been helping you cheat during dragon training-" she then stomps harshly onto his chest once again, as if to make a statement.
"-Don't lie to me, or else it'll be my axe that hits you next." She continued, ignore Hiccups gasps of pain.
"N-no on-ne, I haven't *deep, pained breath* cheate-", "BULLSHIT"Astrid screeches and begins to stomping on his chest again.
"There is no way, THERE IS NO WAY SOME USELESS FISHBONE LIKE YOU COULD BEAT ME IN DRAGON TRAINING," She snarls, still stomping onto hiccups chest. Hiccup though stiffens, before moving his body around Astrid's leg (He is rather flexible) and trips her, causing her to fall backward onto her back. This gives him the chance to get up off the ground and distance himself from her by a good few feet.
"That's your reason, you think just cause the way I am I shouldn't — No — COULDN'T be better than you," Hiccup states, hurt by what his crush was saying. his heart then broke when she let out a scoffing/demeaning laugh while staring right at him.
"That's ENOUGH reason TO imply it, one month ago you could barely pick up a shield by yourself and now you can make these beast's do whatever you want," She states, glaring darkly at him. She was mentally smirking at the hurt look in Hiccups' eyes.
'Just one more push, one more push, and I'll have the next match in the bag.' She thinks to herself. (That's right, all Astrid cared about was being on top, being the one who everyone sees as the strongest. she doesn't care who she topples over until she gets what she wants) She then continues to laugh, as if she thought of the world's greatest joke.
"you wanna know what's funny, its that you actually thought you could become one of us-" letting out a loud, dark laugh while right at him.
"All you are and all you'll ever be is some useless Hiccup that should've passed on years ago, I mean look at you. A walking fishbone that can't do anything without ruining the lives of everyone that is involved with him, I mean you even KILLED your own MOTHER. Hela, I wouldn't put it past Stoick only putting you into dragon training to finally get rid of you, 'cause you're too useless to do it yourself." She then stops to look at him, smirking as she saw tears flowing like a river down his face. Astrid was gonna continue her tirade against him when she was suddenly pushed to the ground by him. He ran deeper into the forest, fast enough that Astrid lost sight of him in a matter of seconds.
A few seconds after losing sight of him, she picked her self up, flinching slightly. looking down she noticed that her ankle was twisted or sprained before looking at the direction useless had run off in. thinking to herself, wondering how she got a twisted ankle from falling and if she had gone a bit far. She quickly shrugged off the latter, before limping slightly towards her axe and picked it up. Once she did that she noticed that there were cracks all over the blade of the axe, as well as a lot of chips in it as well.
'How did tha- Never mind, Hopefully, Gobber can repair it before the semi-finals next week.' she says to herself, before limping back towards the village, already making up a lie for why she was limping and about what had happened to her axe.
*With Hiccup*
Tears had continued to flow down his face, as he runs towards the cove. Slowing down as Astrid's words had begun replaying over and over again in his mind, stopping suddenly as he was just a few feet away from the cove. the first thing he did was check to see if his nose was alright, before resetting it, flinching as the loud crunch of the bone in it moving back into place. His mind then began to wander, He had grown so much in the month he had met toothless. He had gained more confidence in himself since meeting him, and Astrid all but destroyed it with her words.
Believe it or not, Her words hurt him more than his own fathers and some of the villagers combined. Why you may ask, well he heard all the whispers from the villagers, them demeaning him continuously stating how useless he was, how he should be more like them, that he should get out of their way, etc. Once he gets home he is either met with one of three things, an empty home, a silent home (Stoick is there, but ignores Hiccup) or drunk Stoick. Drunk Stoick takes pleasure in harming his son, either physically or mentally. He even blamed him for his mother's death, saying that he wished it was him that was taken/killed by the dragon instead of her. It doesn't hurt him as much anymore but is hurt as Stoick never apologizes to him about what he said. (Cause even while he is drunk, he still remembers what he does while drunk.) After hearing everything he had for so many years he has become numb to the words they say, still somewhat hurt by them, but not as much as he used to be.
But a Hiccup, he'd thought that after not hearing anyone demean him or call him that for so long (a month or 2) that he'd…. He shook his head, getting that thought out of his head. He then started moving towards/into the cove again, once there he was quickly tackled to the ground by an excited Nightfury, who proceeds to lick him all over, covering the now giggling boy in dragon slobber.
"T-Tooth-Toothless, s-stop, you know that comes out." Hiccup states, groaning and pouting at his best friend. Toothless had smelled the boy's scent when he was just a few feet from the cove, he noticed that his scent was mixed with water, salt, and…. blood. Ignoring the blood for the moment, he wanted to first get rid of the scent of sadness from the boy and did what he did. After a few moments of watching him, making sure he was not hurt, which he no longer was, he began jumping up and down flapping his wings. Hiccup let out a laugh as he saw his friends request and quickly took out the required items for them to go flying, putting them on toothless and both were in the sky faster than Thor's lightning.
*Time-skip*
(Toothless and Hiccup go to the red death, like in the movie but without Astrid with them. Happens the same way, even escaping from the mountain after watching the red death eat the Gronckle whole.)
*The cove: Nightfall*
They had just arrived back to the cove, Hiccup quickly got off of Toothless saddle in shock at what he had just witnessed. It made sense to him, the dragon raids, the amount of food they would take at each raid, hela, it explained why so many of them looked skinnier than the rest of their kind.
"Tha-that dragon, shes turned that entire island into her hive, turning the dragons there into bees, with her as their queen. Forcing them to hunt for her, eating any that don't." He mutters to himself, pacing back and forth. Toothless just nods along with his humans' mutterings, agreeing to what he is saying. Suddenly, Hiccup stops moving, not only that he stops muttering and gains a rather far away look in his eyes. Confusing and slightly scaring Toothless, as he remains immobile for more than a few moments.
*Inside Hiccups mind*
~Maybe I could them, both the dragons AND Vikings. Show the Vikings what we know about dragons is wrong and~ his thought gets interrupted by Astrids voice.
'All you are and all you'll ever be is some useless hiccup.' Mentally shaking his head, trying to ignore her voice but it becomes louder.
'A walking fishbone that can't do anything without ruining the lives of everyone that is involved with him…' he is then suddenly surrounded by more voices. The voices of his tormentors, from his cousins taunting to the villager's demeaning comments about him, followed by his own father's voice yelling at him in a drunken rage.
'THE DRAGON SHOULD'VE KILLED YOU.' He hears, and then is thrown into his memories of everything that has happened to him, being shoved to the ground, trampled over, thrown over the ledge some of the ledges all across berk. Being punched, kicked, even BURNED. He feels as if he is drowning in his memories until he feels himself being tackled and crushed.
*Outside Hiccups mind*
Hiccup had been frozen in place for more than a few minutes now, really scaring Toothless who moved towards the still immobile boy. The first thing he did was sniffing the air near the boy, the scent of overwhelming sadness was rolling off of him. Toothless nudged the boy with his snout, trying to shake him out of whatever was going with him with no success. The next thing he tried was licking him, again nothing. He then stood up on his hind legs, and tackled him to the ground, him (Toothless) laying on top of him crushing the boy onto the ground.
Everything remained still and sent for a few more moments before Toothless felt Hiccup squirming underneath him, as well as hearing him groan what sounded like 'Get off of me you useless reptile.' Said reptile let out a relieved huff before slowly moving until his head was on the boy's stomach. Causing said boy to let out a groan, asking him to get off. Toothless shook his head, letting out a few noises while staring straight into Hiccups' eyes. Toothless knew that he understood what he was saying, cause even though their bond was created just a short while ago, both of them understood what one another said. Hiccup was trying to shimmy his way out from underneath the night fury, causing said night fury to put more of its weight onto him, as a way of saying 'you're not getting out of this'.
"Fine," Hiccup groans out, causing toothless to smirk… well the dragons equivalent to a smirk. Letting his head lay back down to the ground, he explained everything to the dragon, telling the story of his life since he first met the dragon. Telling him what his life was like before meeting him, to his status in the village, about dragon training and using what he learned from him on the dragons (stating how he no longer wishes to harm dragons), his rise in popularity in the village, to his earlier run-in with Astrid(in which caused Toothless to let out a menacing growl at), and to his most recent thought on showing the Vikings that dragons aren't mindless killers. Sighing he stares into the night sky, briefly aware at how late it was.
"I fear that they won't listen to me, that I will lose something important if iOdin I want to hurt or, Odin forbid, kill a dragon after what I had learnt from you." He states, gently rubbing his hand against toothless's head, smiling as he heard him purring. After a few moments, he stops rubbing the dragons head and lets out a defeated sigh.
"What should I do bud, I don't want to risk them finding and killing you." He asks, but before the dragon could give any sort of response the both of them stiffened as they heard a voice nearing the top of the cove. A voice Hiccup knew all too well.
"Hiccup!"
To be continued...
Hope you enjoyed the chapter, also who do you think the voice belongs to. You all have a week to guess who it is before the next chapter is unveiled, I thought it would be fun to see who thinks like me on how this story can go. Any way I will be working on chapters once this is uploaded, hopefully, it isn't fully entrenched in code like the last one.
Also, I would like to give a thank you to Keeperofmagick for asking me to do these prompts, and I hope you enjoy what they become.
