Ahhhh~...why does it have to rain so much in Ba Sing Se!? It never rains like this back home…
Sokka it hardly rains in the south pole in the first place. Besides you didn't have to come, Aang told you he was going to have avatar duties to attend to most of the trip.
*pitter patter*
I know! I only came because Ba Sing Se has the biggest markets in the entire world, and I could use a new boomerang. Ever since sozin's comet when I lost my space sword and boomerang my back has felt so bare. I feel like a turtleduck without its shell!
Stop being so dramatic, you can always have dad make you a new one back home. I lost mom's necklace and you don't see me crying like a baby, and I can't ever get that back.
Sokka turned to her angrily.
Don't you dare turn this into something about you. We spent all that time when you lost it trying to find it, only to find out it was the reason zuko was tracking us! Not to mention you go on and on about "my mother this" and "my mother that". She is my mother too Katara...I lost my mother on that day too…
*pitter patter*
Sokka I didn't-
You didn't what Katara! You didn't mean to turn a normal conversation into something about yourself! You didn't mean to bring up how you act so mature and I don't!? What katara...what didn't you mean to do!? Tell me! Because those are the only two things you seem to do nowadays.
Sokka please you know I didn't mean to do that…
Whatever. I'm going to go see what Toph is up to. At least with her I won't have to worry about her turning everything I say into a lecture or something about herself..
*pitter patter*
As sokka put his coat on and walked out the door into the cold rainy day, katara looked out the window into the gray clouded sky. It may not have been as cold as home, but Katara could still feel the cool air as a lone tear rolled down her cheek.
The Beifong home was everything but a place where Sokka liked to be. He was raised to hunt, lived in a house made of ice, and wore animal skins as clothes. Toph lived in a mansion, had chefs prepare her food, wore silk robes and cotton clothes. So he felt very out of place whenever he visited toph.
HEY TOPH YA HOME!? His voice echoed throughout the empty mansion.
Huh weird, she's normally home. Maybe she's out shopping or getting her hair done… Wait, this is Toph I'm talking about. Sokka chuckled while talking to himself.
As he entered the mansion he took off his coat and began to wander around the house. He began to notice a lot of the smaller details of the home he failed to notice before, such as that there were many paintings on the walls of the home. Some of Toph and some of people who Sokka could only guess were either older members of the Beifong family or relatives. The walls and drapes were also a dark shade of green with gold embroidery of the Beifong family crest.
After wandering around the home for a bit Sokka thought he would catch some sleep in Toph's room. If there was one thing he liked about Toph's home it was that her bed was the most comfortable thing in the world, and after the headache he just got from hearing Katara talk about their moms necklace again he needed as much comfort as he could get. Seriously does she just forget that they are siblings when she wants to bring that up or what? It hurt him especially when he and Katara were children she dared to say he didn't love their mom as much as her… Soka shook his head to clear his mind of those thoughts. As he entered the upstairs room Sokka removed his shoes and socks and got under the covers and drifted into a deep and comforting sleep.
Darkness...there was nothing but endless darkness around him. Sokka was used to dreams like this, where he just floated through an empty black space until he awoke. He was contempt with this thought until he heard a voice call out his name.
~Sokka...Sokkaaa…~
As he squinted into the distance a form started to take shape. It had white hair in a bun, with blue hair accessories hanging on the side of its face, and a blue northern tribe hair pin tying the bun together. It wore a blue dress with blue ribbons floating around it.
Yue..? Yue is that you!?
~Of course it's me, who else would it be silly?~
Wait what are you doing here..?! Shouldn't you be in the spirit world keeping the balance of the world as the moon?
~Yes but I can afford to visit the boy who stole my heart for a few moments~
Sokka winced at that sentence. He thought back to when he met princess Yue, the moments they had spent together, the joy he felt when he was with her. And then he thought about how he lost her, the siege of the north and how General Zhao killed the moon spirit fish. (Katara had filled him in on what happened after) If only Yue hadn't met him. If only he had kept himself away from her she wouldn't have gotten hurt. She wouldn't have had to sacrifice herself to save them.
I'm sorry Yue...I couldn't protect you like I promised you I would. I wasn't strong enough…
~Sokka are you still distraught about that?~ Yue floated closer to Sokka and lifted his face with her hand.
~It was my destiny to become the moon and restore balance. You could not have changed that even if you were the avatar.~
Sokka lifted his hand to hers, tears in his eyes he spoke softly.
Thank you Yue, you have been the biggest influence on me as a person. You taught me that try as I might I can not save everyone. You...my mother...suki… You've allowed me to come to terms with my failures as a warrior, man, and worst of all a lover...
~No Sokka, you can not save everyone in need. No matter how many wars you end. No matter how many crimes you stop there will always be someone who needs to be saved. Someone who is hungry, who is being harmed. But you can save those who need you the most. Those who are closest to you. And even those who you do not know are close to you...~
As those last words left her mouth Yue began to fade away. As she began to disappear she kissed sokka on his forehead and smiled.
~Thank you Sokka, you gave me the best memories I could ever have. You gave me everything I could have ever wanted. Thank you and i love you Sokka...Sokka…So...OOZLES! SNOOZLES! WAKE UP!
As Toph shook Sokka awake he fell of the bed onto his head
YEEOWW! HEY WHAT WAS THAT FOR!?
The real question is what are you doing in my house, in my room, inside of my bed when no one is home snoozles?
As Sokka's vision begun to adjust and he began to fully wake up he noticed he was looking at some awfully familiar feet.
T-Toph?
The one and only. Although I'd expect you to know it was me because you are inside my room.
Oh yeah..hehe...Sorry bout that I kinda needed a place to relax because Katara made my boomerang shopping about her, and we got into a fight so i came here to hang out with you but when I got here no one was home so I let myself in.
That does sound like something sugar queen would do. Well while I am honored to have you here because you missed being with me and I do miss our conversations I don't think my parents would approve of a boy being inside of their "precious daughters" room alone and unsupervised.
Sokka mentally slapped himself for being so stupid and forgetting to think that Toph was still the only daughter of a VERY rich family. As he got up and dusted himself off and put his shoes back on he began to head for the window. Toph turned in his direction quizzically.
Where ya goin' Snoozles? Dontcha wanna hang out some more?
I'd love to hang out with you some more Toph but I should be heading back to the inn. It's getting late and I don't need your father finding out I'm here and sending all the guards in the city after my head.
Toph giggled and went to hug her friend.
Good point, see ya later Snoozles. It was good hearing ya after all this time. I miss hanging out with you, twinkle toes, and sweetness...don't tell her i said that.
As she said that she punched him in the arm.
OW! I won't, I won't don't worry. But it was good seeing you too Toph. See ya around.
Sokka turned to jump out the window into the garden.
Oh also twinkle toes told me that if I ran into you before he did to let you know that Zuko is holding a meeting tomorrow and we all must attend. He said it was something about prisoners of war and what he should do with them after these past 3 years.
Ok I'll be at the palace around noon then, if it starts before that let them know will ya?
With that sokka turned, jumped out the window, and headed for the walls that enclosed the home. The night was cool, the sky had a few clouds here and there. Sokka didn't understand why they all had to attend the meeting but he hoped it would be over with quickly. With that thought he pulled his cloak over his neck and headed for the inn as fast as he could. Hoping to see Yue once again in his dreams.
