Title: Will Love Overcome?
Chapter 11
***OPA***
(In the conference room, Olivia, Huck, and Quinn are talking)
Quinn: "It's time to confront the jackass, once and for all, about what he has on your brother, Liv."
Olivia: (nods) "No, I agree. I know he's alive, but now, I want to meet him. Jake received a call the night you two set us up, but he didn't recognize the number."
Huck: "Where do we start regarding getting the evidence against your father?"
Olivia: "I know that Elijah has the evidence. I just don't know where."
(After resting her fingertips to her lips while thinking, she nods moments later)
Olivia: "How about we look at his house? I'm not sure where to look. However, the evidence has to be somewhere inside there."
Jake: "How about the attic?"
(The three are caught off-guard to see Jake and hear his voice as he walks towards them)
Olivia: "I didn't expect to see you here tonight."
Jake: "I wasn't sure how or where to look for the information on the number. So, I decided to ask Huck since he's the expert."
(Huck couldn't help but smile at the compliment)
Jake: "I wanted to help you guys out and then Huck can help me with the number."
Huck: (slowly nods) "No problem."
Quinn: "Why'd you suggest the attic?"
Jake: (shrugs) "That's where I'd hide all my personal belongings, I guess if I had a big house."
Olivia: "No, I agree. Jake, if it's okay with you, you can keep a lookout in case Elijah comes back. The reason I chose you? If Elijah saw Huck or Quinn, he'd know something is up. Being it's my brother, I feel I should look for the evidence. If, by chance, Elijah saw you? I'm sure you would find things to talk about. And it wouldn't surprise me if he brought up our relationship and the fact that you and I need to stay away from each other."
Jake: (rolls his eyes) "He's still saying that shit to you?"
Olivia: "Yes. But that's a subject for another time."
Jake: "Yes, I'll keep a lookout. Do you know where he is?"
Olivia: "I called the Smithsonian and Elijah will be out of town the rest of the evening. Perfect time to look now." (exhales sharply) "Are we ready to do some investigating?"
Quinn: (smiles) "You got it, boss."
Huck: "Always."
Jake: "Let's do it."
(They all make sure they have their phones on them. In case a problem arises, they call or text the other with updates)
***Elijah's House***
(Olivia had an old key from years ago that Elijah gave her when they were on better terms. When Olivia tried it in the keyhole, unfortunately, it didn't work. Olivia cursed under her breath as she knew it'd be too easy. She should have known that Elijah would have had the locks changed since then. Between the four of them, 2 using flashlights and the other two getting the front door unlocked, it eventually worked)
Huck: "Are we ready to do this?"
Quinn: "Let's get it done."
Olivia: (to Jake) "Are you sure you don't mind helping?"
Jake: "If it means taking Elijah down and finding your brother and then we can be together, I'm more than ready to help."
(Jake places a small kiss on the tip of Olivia's nose, causing her to blush a bit before nodding. She then looks at everyone)
Olivia: "Alright, let's do this."
(Huck, Quinn, and Olivia go inside with Olivia locking the door behind her in case Elijah comes back early. That way, Jake can say he was waiting on the front steps and he couldn't get in because the door was locked. They all agreed to put their phone on vibrate as a ringtone so it wasn't too loud in case Jake couldn't keep Elijah outside if he returned)
(They looked in the spare bedrooms and closets and found nothing. Next was Elijah's room. Nothing. The last place to look was the attic. After all three went up there, they looked around the spacious attic. There were boxes and old mementos all around. After a little while, Olivia found a box in the corner and couldn't help but grow curious. After going to the box, she examined it. Nothing was written on it. She took off the top and immediately noticed there was a bunch of folders inside. She starts going through the first folder. The first couple of files immediately caught her eye)
Olivia: "Noah Benjamin Pope…Born January 31st, 1977…black hair, hazel eyes…Born to Maya and Elijah Pope at Washington General...Diagnosis: Down Syndrome…Mild Cerebral Palsy…Birth Weight: 7 lbs. 5 oz."
(Olivia sighs softly as she looks forward, away from the files)
Olivia: "So, you really are alive….and you have a name. The question is, are you STILL alive?"
(Olivia texts Quinn and Huck, telling them she found the box on her brother in case they wouldn't be able to hear her voice. She then makes sure that Elijah isn't home yet. Jake texts back 'no, you're good to go'. Quinn and Huck go to Olivia and Olivia shows them what she's found so far. After skimming everything, Huck speaks)
Huck: "Is he still alive?"
Olivia: "That's what I'm about to find out."
(Olivia takes out another folder and reads it while Huck and Quinn take out other files to help)
Olivia: (to herself) "Due to fathers' sadness over son's diagnoses, he made the decision to place the son up for adoption. Mother against it, but agreed for son's well-being. Closed adoption."
(Olivia briefly looks up and shakes her head in distraught at what she's reading. Afterward, she continues on)
Olivia: (to herself) "It shows that Elijah has been keeping tabs on Noah growing up. Despite the doctor's diagnosis, Noah didn't have as many problems growing up as everyone thought." (scoffs) "This is why mom was sad when I was growing up. I thought it was because of the fights she and her dad had. He talked her into putting Noah up for adoption and she didn't know what happened to him. Dad knew, though. Noah got adopted shortly after birth and it shows an address, but not his current one. A home number is given." (perplexed look) "Wait a second. The phone number looks familiar."
(Olivia then remembers the number that Jake showed her as that was on his Caller ID. She grows wide-eyed as she wonders if it was her brother that tried to reach her or Jake to get to her)
(Olivia looks through the rest of the files like Huck and Quinn are doing and they compare notes)
Olivia: "What did you two find?"
Quinn: "What his family life was like."
Huck: "It was hard to be in sports due to his cerebral palsy, even though it was mild because he had braces on his feet and legs. He had to go to the doctor every couple of months or so to get fitted for new braces so the old braces wouldn't hurt him. He had to get shots in his legs every six months or his legs would tighten up and it'd be hard to walk. He had siblings that he grew up with he liked. He was in special ED because of his learning disability."
Quinn: "His adopted parents were very kind. They helped him with everything and get him to help where needed. I didn't see anywhere if he got teased because of his disabilities as sometimes you do."
Olivia: "I'm glad he didn't get bullied. It sounds like he had a nice upbringing." (angrily) "I'm still pissed off that Elijah did all of this."
Huck: "I think we better hurry up in case Elijah makes his appearance sooner rather than later."
Olivia: (nods) "I agree."
(Olivia gives her sidekicks files and tells them to use their phones and take pictures of everything so they have proof of what they read. She does the same. Afterward, they put the folders back and Olivia closes the box They quickly get out and leave the house. Olivia walks to Jake)
Jake: "Did you find anything to bring down Elijah?"
Olivia: (smirks) "You have no idea. I'll tell you all about it at my office."
***OPA***
(In the conference room, Huck and Quinn are looking at the files they took on their phone. Olivia and Jake are in her office and she shows him the number she found in the file. Jake immediately recognizes it. They both wonder if it was, indeed, her brother who tried to contact him. Olivia and Jake go to Huck and asked Huck to gather more evidence on her dad regarding Noah or anything else that Huck may find)
(Olivia places a call to her dad and says she needs to see him at his place. He wonders what it's about)
Olivia: "You'll find out soon. Are you home?"
Elijah: "I'll be home in about an hour. What's going on, Olivia?"
Olivia: "You'll find out soon. I'll be there in an hour and a half."
***Hour & Half Later***
(Olivia arrives at Elijah's house and knocks at the front door. After he answers, he allows her in. They go to the living room and he immediately asks why she wanted to meet. Olivia turns around and stares at him right in the face and speaks)
Olivia: "I'm here to talk about my brother."
