A Hetalia history story following the history of New York City, featuring, yes, an OC. I mean to offend no one by this story; I am trying to do research on the Native Americans of Lower New York States, and if anyone has more information, I'd be grateful if you shared it. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Hetalia.
1524
Giovanni da Verrazzano looked out on the natural harbor, a sense of awe stirring from within him. Rich forests, an accessible harbor, abundant animals. The natives used these waterways, catching abundant fish and sea creatures. This was the perfect place for a colony. Nouvelle Angouleme, he named it, claiming it for the French Crown. Smiling, he knew this site would one day become a wondrous colony, strong and powerful.
And something in the land began to stir.
1525, one year later.
Esteban Gomez was the next to see the harbor, a Portuguese explorer heading a Spanish expedition. He sailed a little way up the river feeding into the bay, naming it Rio de San Antonio, or Saint Anthony's River. Seeing promise in the land, it was charted officially in 1527, named Tierra de Esteban Gomez.
The land pulsed with a growing force.
1609
"You think this is it?"
Henry Hudson lowered his spyglass, gazing out to the North River.
"It's a good harbor of winds," his first mate continued, holding his hand up and peering through the mist at the coastline. "Full of fish and a mile broad."
"Possibly." He put away the glass, turning towards the upper deck. "Let's hope this is our Northeast passage."
The Half Moon turned and began to sail up the North River, hoping to find the fabled passage to Asia. Hudson pushed the ship onward, as far as it could go before it became too shallow to continue. Stopping and exploring for ten days, he claimed the area for the Dutch East India Company, before continuing his journey west ward.
Deep within the forest, far past the coast, a little baby was born. It wasn't until past dusk, when, alerted by the baby's cries, a Lenape woman found the child, and took her in to her family. In 1614, the land as far south as Delaware Bay and as far north as Cape Cod, was claimed by the Netherlands.
And so the colony of Nieuw Nederland was founded.
I know it's short, but this is the first chapter! It was a bit of a history dump, but I figured I'd start off with the founding of the colony. As for the OC, it's explained later why they were born at the satrt of the New Netherlands.
If you have a minute, I'd be grateful if you dropped a review!
