The three of them, Gary, Jade, and her father, Lord Grey, made their way out of the store room, and down the halls. Gary stayed mostly quiet, letting Jade handle the talking. They all had learned the appropriate language, mostly without knowing they were learning, but Gary knew he was playing a huge risk, not knowing the local military culture.
Jade got stopped once. "Ensign, where are you going?" A Storm Trooper demanded, stepping in her way. Jade unconsciously glanced towards her father. "Don't look to your training officer. By the way your walking, you're in charge of this. Answer the question, and show me some ID."
Jade gathered up her courage. "I'm taking this technician down to the detention block to do a diagnostic on why one of the cells open lights isn't flashing on when the cell is opened." Jade said. "Not a high priority, since it's an unused cell, but still..."
"Too much information." The Storm Trooper barked. "You're ID checks out. In the future, just tell people where your going. Your training officer is probably going to dock your score for this."
Gary, for his part, stayed serious, not allowing himself to smile. He gave his most judgmental stare at the young actress, secretly enjoying being right. This encounter was as much an enlisted soldier harassing a young officer as anything else, using the rules and procedure to get her into trouble. It also meant he was right about their culture, despite not remembering that he'd read about this kind of military organization in his studies. Their cover was secure.
"Move along." The trooper ordered.
Jade was going to say something, but Gary beat her to the punch. "We don't verbally respond to the order, we just get moving." He scolded Jade. "Now, we have a lot more to do, so move out. And Jasmine, you never offered he trooper the technicians ID."
Jade hung her head in actual shame as they made their way to the lifts, and from there to the detention cells. The guards seemed to know what to expect, because Jade, as Jasmine, was stopped and asked for her ID twice more before she arrived at the appropriate door. Just before she arrived, the code to open the door flashed on he wrist communicator, allowing them access to the outer portion of the detention block.
"We have a problem." The guard at the door said. "I never reported a faulty light." He had a half dozen droids walking patrol through the detention area.
"Not my problem." Jade growled. "We need to check out your monitoring system so we can go back."
Gray stepped forward, pulling out his tools. The guard, a storm trooper, stood his ground, weapon in hand. For the briefest of moments, it looked like there was going to be some kind of confrontation. "Look, kid, I get it, you have a job to do. But someone is messing with you, cause we can't allow this guy to look over the warning system without a work order." The trooper said, placing his weapon down on the console. "You need to learn, there has to be a work order for everything. I feel for you, kid. First command responsibility, and they give you a job without doing anything to help out. But if you'd just checked for a work order, you'd have saved us all a lot of grief."
The trooper gave a chuckle. "Not the guys who stopped you. They live for this stuff. I mean, when else can we get in an officers face? But..." His hands went to his helmet, pulling it free. A blueish human face was staring at her. "You know, you're really pretty. Too bad your already commissioned. We could have had us some fun."
Gary pulled out his blaster and shot the man, weapon set on stun. Immediately, an alarm went off. Gary walked over to the communications panel. Reading something from his communicator, he started speaking. "This is Lieutenant Luke Mardol, Code number incoming," he entered the comm units export jack, allowing the number to flow quickly, "I just stunned the trooper here for making a pass at my training officer."
"Rodger that." Came the reply. "Next time, just scold the man. We're vectoring a replacement guard your way."
The comm went silent. "Okay, we have maybe five minutes before they come in shooting." Gary announced.
"What makes you say that?" Jade asked.
"Because their monitoring us." The police officer said. "And we're here on a rescue mission. So, even if they're not against us now, they will be once we open the doors."
"On it." Malcolm said, yanking open the panel and starting to fiddle with the circuit boards. "You realize, I have no skills for this."
"On it." Jade said, stepping over to the control panel and opening all the cells. "I just popped the cells. The way I figure it, we're not losing anything."
"Lets make sure they're here." Gary announced, walking down a hall towards where he hope her friends were.
Droids started moving to contain the situation, guarding and patrolling the cell blocks, trying to make sure the prisoners stayed in their cells. Jade hit a button, and they stood down. "Not gonna stand down for long, are they?" Gray asked.
"Other hall." Jade called out, pointing to the second of the three halls linking the detention cells.
"On it." Gary called out, walking down the correct hall. The doors remained closed, even as he walked past the many unlocked portals. 'Gotta find them quick, without letting some guard who may be here for drunk and disorderly find out the doors are unlocked...'
Jade helped her father put the droids in maintenance mode, then opening them up and tearing out whatever circuits to disable them. "This way, we don't have armed enemies at our back." He explained. "Pity we can't reprogram them. A few extra guns would be useful."
Jade shifted, getting ready for the fight that was about to happen. "Um, dad..."
"Lord Gray, or master." Her father reminded her. "Just master."
"Master." Jade sighed. "We can't afford to get trapped in here."
"Agreed, but we're far from helpless." Grey said. "No, they're gonna need a distraction. Lets choose our targets, and prepare to move out. I suggest we make a dash towards both the engine room and the bridge. We avoid any open fights, letting ourselves be drawn away from our apparent goals in order to avoid any fight that we know we won't win. Make them hunt us. Give Gary a chance to get the princesses and her friends out of here…."
"Guys, we have a problem." Gary called out. "I found the kids, but we're missing Trina, Tori and Beck."
"So you found Cat and Andre?" Jade asked.
"And Robbie." The boy called out. "Don't forget Robbie."
"Okay, when did they take the Vega's?" Jade asked.
"We don't know." Andre said. "They weren't kept with us. We only know they're gone because some guy came for Beck, told him he was coming along as Trina's attache. Not sure why they chose him, other then he'd been telling them his job was to keep an eye on her, so maybe..."
"Enough." Lord Grey snapped. "How long ago did they take Beck?"
"Lets see.. It was just over two meals, so maybe six hours?" Cat guessed.
"Six hours?" Malcolm sighed. He closed his eyes. "Baron, I need to know, where are the princesses?"
"Tori's here, but not Beck." Jade said. "I can feel Tori. They have her forward, towards the bridge. I suggest..." She hesitated. "I'm going after her."
"Jade, while I applaud the sentiment, we have to think about our actions." Her father warned her.
"But it fits our plan." Jade argued. "I go after her, making a line for the bridge, and diverting as I get close. They may guess what I'm after, but if I'm quick enough, I may be able to get to her. You go towards the engine room, see if you can find some way to disrupt communications. We don't want them talking to anyone, including each other."
"Three, please find some way to disrupt the star destroyers communications." Grey ordered the droid. "If possible, we want to disrupt all non essential systems."
"A virus would do it." Gary suggested.
"I have just the thing." Robbie said. "We download some malware I have… No, it's on my computer at home..."
"We can do that." Jade said, smirking. "Have three use the special communicators to open a link to earth, Robbie's computer, which I'm betting is on line as we speak, and download the malware directly to the ships computer."
"It's nasty, cause it makes the computer use more and more of it's memory to hold useless junk." Rob informed the others.
"And we'll talk about it later." Gary said. "Now kids, when I say go, you follow me. I have a rout to the hangers, and hope to be able to get us a shuttle."
"Those things take time to get warmed up once your in." Jade warned them. "Wish we had Beck here..."
"Number Three can walk me through the process." Gary told her. "Now get ready, everyone, cause they're coming."
"You guys, back up." Grey ordered. "Out of sight until the shooting dies down. Then, you follow Gary here, officer Malone, out of this place. With luck, we'll be out of here before they know whats happening."
"You realize we're about to shut down the lifts, right?" Jade asked.
"If my plan works, Gary can get them past all obstacles." Lord Grey said. "Pity we didn't have the chance to grab them uniforms."
"Who said we didn't?" Gary asked, pulling several out from the tool chest. "I hope you guys don't mind, but as of now, we're a repair squad. We'll be bluffing our way past everyone."
"When..." Jade stated to ask.
"When I had Malcolm here shift to a technician." He explained. "The uniforms are kinds too big to smuggle any other way, but rolled up tight in the bottom of the tool box, they barely fit. Cost us a lot of tools, but hey, we'll only need those if we try to repair anything."
"Get changed." Grey ordered, as he and Jade squared their shoulders and got ready. No sooner had the kids disappeared into a nearby cell to change then the door flew open, and a dozen man rushed in. Blasters pointed at Jade and her father, while an officer, distinguished by the different look to his armor, entered. 'Wait for it, not yet..." Grey whispered to his child.
"Okay, why'd you open all the doors in the security block?" The officer asked.
"Same reason we disabled the droids." Grey replied. "We were looking for someone. So, tell us, where is Delta Red. Maybe we'll go easy on you if you do."
'Delta Red?" Jade thought.
"What happened to the training officer who was with you?" The trooper officer asked.
"He's gone." Jade said. "Nice guy, but I just couldn't take his criticism. Besides, he already served his purpose, getting us here." She smirked.
"Fine." The officer said. "Troopers, Fire."
Jade and her father were already in motion, diving behind the console, letting it explode under the withering fire from the troopers guns. Both knew they had moments before they would either lack cover, or be subjected to damage from the explosions. Still, they had a plan, and stage one was getting away. Jade drew the blaster pistol she'd been given, even as the lights blinked out, to be replaced by the emergency lights.
'Won't stop the Storm Troopers, cause their helmets have light amplification. But it will give me a chance to bluff.' Jade thought. "Soldier, our people have hit the engine room. Go, find Delta Red!"
Already she was moving, rolling out from behind her cover, and using the pistol to lay down a line of fire. She knew she didn't have to hit anyone, just shoot for the door. The troopers would then have to decide, cover the door, or get out of the way of her shots. Unconsciously, she was tracking the aim of the guards, keeping just one step ahead of them. Still, it worked, as two went down before they realized where she was aiming. Her farther used that moment to race out, acrobatically covering the distance and rolling past several men before getting outside and blitzing down the hall. He was gone, rabbiting away, hoping to draw soldiers.
Jade then used that distraction to blast one of the access tubes, crawling in and disappearing with a burst of speed. By the time the troopers could respond, she was gone, and they were left holding a useless cell.
"Search the cell block, see if anyone is missing." The officer ordered.
"What about the terrorists?" One of the troopers asked.
"They're alone on a big ship, with nearly a legion of storm troopers on board. We'll catch them soon enough." The officer said. "Now check the cells."
"Um, sir, we can't access the logs to find out who's in what cell." One of the soldiers said.
"Don't rely on the consuls, use your comm units." The officer ordered. "Except communications are down. Okay, lets find out if the special prisoners are here."
They started checking sells, and immediately found Gary, who managed to make himself look stunned. "Looks like they only stunned him." The trooper said, "Who are these people?"
"Uhh.." Gary groaned. "Uh, what happened? I called in a tech team to fix the mess those two were making, and the girl opened fire on me. I guess I'm lucky she used my gun, and it was still set on stun..." Years of street theater and under cover work made the act far easier then it otherwise would have been.
"Get yourself and your teem down to the medical bay for a checkup." The officer said, quickly checking their ID's, as much as he could. At that moment, even a bad forgery, or a badge stolen from someone else, was passable. There just wasn't the time for a secure check, and these men weren't used to doing anything more then a surface glance, letting the technology do the work for them.
"Team, with me." Gary said. "Um, trooper, could you spare us a couple of guards, in case they're out there?"
"No can do." The officer said. "All the doors are open, and we have to secure this prison block. Take your people and get out of here."
Gary would never realize how much he owed to Cat, and her quick makeup job on the group. It sold the disguise, as they no longer looked enough like themselves for the guards to be sure who they might be. So, under scrutiny from the guards, and without anyone being able to confirm what they said, Gary led Andre, Cat and Robbie out of the cells block.
Jade moved quickly but quietly down the halls, watching for any sign of guards. As expected, despite the large number, they were diffused, trying to deal with the loss of communications, the lifts being down, and not being able to track their peoples every move. 'We've been lucky so far, but our lucks bound to wear off. We have to find Vega and get out of here. Then, we find out where they took Trina and Beck, and go rescue them….' Her thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of men blocking the corridor. Jade could see the backup of people, crew members who were trying to get from one place to another, being stopped and questioned in the effort to make sure no one was anywhere they weren't supposed to be. 'Even a trickle can become a lake if you back it up enough.' Jade told herself.
Meanwhile, Grey had managed to avoid the various guard posts to make it most of the distance to the engine room. Since the detention block was conveniently near the troopers quarters and training area's, that put it towards the front of the ship, as opposed to the bridge and the engine room, as both were towards the rear of the ship. 'No, the real task is gonna be heading to the space docks and getting us a shuttle.' Grey thought. He watched the movement ahead, and decided to make a bit of a distraction. A single use of illusion, to make the guard think they heard something, and he managed to slip past again. However, as he expected, the paranoia of the situation was enough, and one of the guards discharged his weapon. 'Took a bit to implant that suggestion.' The Gray Knight thought. 'Lets see if it was worth the effort.'
The single shot may not have done that much damage, but it echoed down the halls, drawing attention, and troopers, like a magnet. Grey used that excuse to make his way further towards the engine room, hoping to do some sabotage before he headed back. 'Doubt I'll be able to do much, given that, once you know there are invaders, standard orders are to secure the bridge and the engine room. But I still want to see what exactly they did, now that the lifts aren't working.'
Jade, meanwhile, had avoided even the hint of a confrontation, up until she knew her choices. 'Up and I get closer to the bridge. Sideways, and I'm closing on Vega. I'm guessing they have her near, or in, the command officers quarters.' A dark thought pushed it's way into her mind. 'If they hut her, they're gonna regret it."
"Calm yourself." The voice of the spirit rang through her mind. "Despite everything, she is a princess, and they are treating her with respect. I feel her in the command guest quarters, where they were probably holding her and her sister. Go now, so you can rescue her sister. Make sure they cannot use your girlfriend as leverage over the princess, and you can save the galaxy."
'Okay, but first, I think we need a distraction...' Jade thought, ignoring the girlfriend comment. She had a lot on her mind, and couldn't spare the time to argue anyways.
"Then make sure that no one is aware of your turning back once the distraction is done." The voice advised, giving her a vision of the checkpoint just above her. Jade slipped into the access tubes, and made her way to the best place to slip out without being observed.
Jade checked the hall beyond, using he force. 'All clear, for now...' She opened the access hatch, and slipped out, closing it just enough not to be obvious it was open. Next, she slipped along, finding the check point manned by a dozen troopers.
Jade closed her eyes, envisioning what she wanted to happen. She would push the guards away, hurling them towards the far end of the hall. Then, she would use their own grenades, pulled from them while pushing them away, to launch an assault. Immediately after launching the last grenade, she'd slip back to the access shaft, closing the door after her, and make her way back down to the guest quarters. 'If it works...' She thought, only to be brought out of her trance by the sounds of explosions behind her, as he access hatch closed with a dull click.
Jade froze, trying to figure out what had just happened. She remembered, somehow, moving in her trance, guided by the things she'd mentally painted in the force. It had happened the way she'd envisioned, only not so. 'I… I projected myself, spiritually, to where they were, and I used the force to seize the grenades, setting them to impact detonation. Then, I materialized a form, made up of random particles and the force, cloaked in my own illusions, and hurled the guards away. Then, the grenades not still attached were launched towards the remaining men, and that was enough. My figure seemed to race past, as I pulled myself back into my body… Weird...'
'No one has been able to do that since the Rakata used that technique for scouting." The voice said in her head. 'Though I've heard the Vorlons are capable of what you just did. I'd guess you, unlike the Vorlones, have to stay near your body. But you interacted with the world, like a Sith spirit, or perhaps an advanced force spirit. Fascinating. You really are meant for greatness. Just, in the future, be sure of what your doing, because while you may have succeeded, it put a lot of strain on your powers. You'll need rest before you try using the force too much again.'
