A/N: So... one of my friends (you know who you are) made me suffer through *that* part of 9x9. (If you know, you know.) and this sprung to mind.I'm sorry it's short. It's late and I wrote this without my glasses on so I also apologize for any typos.Hope y'all enjoy!

Jay glanced over at the passenger seat. Erin had reclined about halfway through Pennsylvania. Now, the sign welcoming them to New Jersey blurred passed the window behind her sleeping form.

He smiled. Fourteen hours ago, she'd nearly left without saying goodbye. A little more than half an hour later, they were engaged and packing his few belongings among hers in the Jeep.

Would he probably regret leaving on a whim when the reality of being jobless hit him after he'd had a proper sleep?

Probably.

Could he bring himself to care?

Not a chance in hell… at least not with his stunning soulmate by his side.

"Don't think so loud," she mumbled, stirring slightly.

"I'm pretty sure that was just a semi. The further east we get, the more maniacally they drive."

"Whatever. Just don't wreck my jeep. I'd like to sleep in a hotel room tonight, not a morgue."

"Such confidence," he deadpanned.

"There's a reason I don't let you drive."

He lifted an eyebrow at her playfully. "And what's happening right now?"

She lazily reached across the console and swatted him before turning back to face the window in hopes of falling back asleep.

Before she could, however, a van with a decal on the side drove passed them, advertising mobile weddings. Shortly after, she noticed a billboard advertising a 24 hour wedding chapel in NYC.

Her attention shifted to the ring on her finger. She twisted it around a couple times.

"Second thoughts?" Jay asked jovially, but his nervous gulp didn't go unnoticed.

"No," she answered quickly, reaching to lace her fingers together with his on the console. "No, never. I love you."

He gave her hand a squeeze. "I love you too."

He turned his attention back to the road, and she back out the window at the signs and the trees whirring passed them on I-280.

"Marry me," she blurted half an hour later, just as a sign welcoming them to New York came into view.

"Planning on it, in case you didn't notice."

"No, Jay. Now. Marry me now."

"Er-"

"There's a 24 hour chapel in NYC. I saw a billboard a bit ago. We're starting a new life tonight, Jay. Let's do it together, officially."

His eyes sparkled, dancing between her and the road as his lips stretched into a full, glowing smile. "Okay."

Two hours later, they approached their hotel room, sporting matching gold bands and trying to keep down their joyous laughter due to the early hour of the morning.

Jay put the card into the door and cracked it as soon as he heard the locks release. He paused to swoop Erin off the ground then he carried her across the threshold.

"Jay. Halstead!" she chastised as he unceremoniously tossed her onto the king-sized mattress.

"Yes, Mrs. Halstead?" he asked with a mischievous smirk.

"You are lucky you're so-" She stopped short, her eyes dancing as he crawled on top of her.

He didn't wait to see if she was going to finish, descending on her and capturing her lips with his own.

Sparks flew. She'd nearly forgotten how intoxicating his touch was.

He worked his way down to the soft spot at the base of her neck and she let it a soft moan.

Fuck, he'd missed the sounds she made.

She ran her fingers over his back, soon finding the hem of his shirt. She pulled the fabric up, exploring the skin beneath.

Jay sat up, quickly ridding himself off the garment before tugging at Erin's top, intent on having her as soon as possible.

Erin picked up on his urgency and made quick work of stripping off the rest of her clothes. He rolled off of her and did the same.

Once naked, he resumed his position over her, hovering for a moment to admire her.

She scanned his form. It had been entirely too long since they'd seen each other like this. She snaked one arm behind his back and threaded her other hand into his hair.

They locked eyes for a moment before she pulled him down hard, fusing their lips together.

They had the rest of their lives to take it slow. Tonight, they were a fire, blazing bright.

He plunged into her, and they quickly found their rhythm. They moved as one, him muffling her cries of passion as his lips devoured hers.

When the sun began to peek above the horizon an hour later, they were just falling asleep, a blanket (an afterthought) haphazardly pulled over their tangled limbs.
