"And that is everything for today so i will take your questions." seth said standing at the podium
"Seth what does the president say about the children being held at the border in states on the border but expectually in texas." one of the reporters asked standing up. Seth turned toward Aaron and Emily stood off to the side. "There is a video leaked by a guard about the living conditions." the reporter continued.
"Um the president has not made on that but onesie i will let you guys know that's all for today.'' Seth said, walking away from the podium as reportes shouted and emily followed him out.
"What the hell guys you just let me out to dry there." Seth said as they walked toward the oval office.
"I didn't even see this but it's bad guys look at this.'' Emily said, showing them her phone with the video pulled up. They saw the children sitting in cages on green thin mates. Some were crying , some with wet spots around them. Emily looked up at Aaron and he looked like he saw a ghost. She knew that this whole situation was going to hit home for him. Sehtb opened the oval office door and they all walked in.
"How the hell did we miss this." kirkman asked.
"The video surfaced during the press conference." Emily answered.
"Okay well we are going to have to figure this out. Not because of politics but because this is wrong.'' Kirkman said, turning toward the tv where the video was playing.
"What are you thinking about doing, sir,." Aaron asked.
"I want to send you and Emily down to texas." kirkman said.
"Sir all do respect this is happening in more places than just texis." aarons said.
"Yes I know but that is where it is the worst. I am hoping that if other states see us taking it seriously will follow how we do texis."kirkman said
"What's the plan when we get there sir." Emily asked.
"I want you guys to go there and work with the government to get these kids reunited with their parents. I want you to connect with the kids. They need to know what we are going to do to help them." kirkman said. "I want you guys to leave soon so get packing." kirkman said.
"Yes sir.'' Emily said as they turned around and walked toward the door.
"Aaron, can I talk to you?" Kirkman asked. Aaron turned around
"Of course sir." Aaron said, sitting down on the couch.
"I know that this is very personal to you." Kirkman said, sitting across from him. "I know how your parents moved her when your mother was pregnant with you." kirman said
"Yes sir." aaron said
"Well if you need to take a break during this take it" kirkman said.
"Thank you sir know let's get these families reunited.'' Aaron said standing up.
"Let's do it." Kirkman said, giving Aaron a hand shake.
After Aaron and Emily landed it, they dropped their stuff off at the hotel before heading to the children detention center. "You okay." Emily asked, seeing Aaron being exputleiy quite looking out the window.
"No, I mean my parents moved here 4 months before I was born. I could very well have been one of these kids if they waited a couple months. " Aaron said, turning toward emily. She looked down at her hands when Aaron turned back toward the window. Emily reached across the car grabbing his hand.
"Hey we're going to get these kids back with their parents. I'm not going back to DC until they are." she said, giving his hand a squeeze.
"Thanks' em." he said back, reathening the squeeze and giving her a smile. They kept the eye contact, their hands still holding onto each other until the motorcade pulled up to the center. Emily pulled away bruising her hair back before stepping out of the car. They walked up to the door flashing they're white house staff cards to the secretary before walking in. as they walked into the back they saw hundreds of kids sitting in cages wrapped in silver blankets. Emily took a deep breath seeing Aaron just standing there clearly bothered. She took a step forward, bending down in front of a little girl who was sitting at the front.
"Hola mi nombre es Emily" she said using the little bit of spanish she knew.
"¿Mi mamá está muerta?" the little girl asked. Emily didn't know that much spanish she turned around and saw Aaron still standing in the same spot.
"Aaron." she said getting his attention. "Come here." she said he walked over bending down next to her. "I don't know that much spanish." she whispered.
"hola mi nombre es aaron qué está pasando" aaron asked the little girl.
"¿Mi mamá está muerta?" the little girl asked again. Emily saw aarons head drop before looking back up at the girl.
"No, cariño, ella no lo es. y mi amiga Emily y yo trabajamos para el presidente Kirkman y te llevaremos de regreso con tu mamá, de acuerdo." aaron said reaching his hand into the cage wiping the tears off the little girl 's cheeks. "Dices a cualquiera de nosotras si necesitas algo ¿de acuerdo?" Aaron said standing up which Emily followed.
"What did she ask." emly asked as they walked to go talk to more kids.
"She asked if her mother is dead," Aaron said, turning toward Emily hoping she couldn't see the tears in his eyes. Emily's head drops as a sheriff walks up to them.
"And just what do you think you are doing here?" he asked, his Texian accent really coming through.
"We were sent by the president to make sure all of the kids are returned to their parents." aaron said standing in front of the sheriff
"You are not welcome here." the sheriff said.
"Well we have a note from the president saying we are." Emily said, pulling a letter out of her purse and handing it to the sheriff. "Let's go aaron." she said walking past the sheriff leaving Aaron shocked at her boldness.
