Hey Guys! This is my first fiction in this fandom... I hope you like it. Some of might have come across it on AO3.
Boku no hero academia does not belong to me, but to Kohei Horikoshi.
Now, onto the chapter.
Read and Review if you please :D.
It had begun as a normal patrol day, those lazy ones in which he hopefully would head home early, for his promised tea party with Eri, except for the storm he knew was to come. It had all been quiet, until he was startled by an explosion noise. Promptly, he rushed close with the aid of his Capture Weapon. It did not take long before he locked sight on the supposed villain. What was even a Nomu doing here? And, even worse, apparently a sentient one, not those zombie-like they had seen at first. This was like the one Endeavor had quarrelled with… But not as smart as Kurogiri.
Al he could think of was how to take the creature away as much as possible from the crowded streets. The rain begun to intensify. Just like on that day. The thing seemed to notice his bait, following over. Now he could take it closer to the forest and enact a fight, or closer to the UA, where there would be reinforcement.
Everything spun as he was hit by a high-speed air jet that he could not possibly have seen coming. He was thrown at full strength at the concrete wall of a building hitting both his head and ribs. For a second, air forcefully left his lungs, being unable to breath due to pain. Was that another of that creature's abilities? How many quirks could be inserted in a single of them?
He heard screaming in the background. Those should have been loud, but a high-pitched tinnitus increasing in both his ears muffled it all. His eyes were drought from the excess of erasure use, his head throbbed from the impact, and all his body demanded was to black-out, even against his mind's will.
He was falling. He tried commanding the Capture Weapon to hold at something, anything, mid-air, but to no avail. He was falling, and there was no one else over. He was falling, he was losing it.
Until he was not, as a cottony surface supported his body.
He was floating. And he had felt that before. But it was impossible. Because he had become that thing. He was in Tartarus. He could not possibly! It had to be a dream. Was that what death felt like? His quirk was suddenly inactivated, and everything that held him together became numb.
"O… bo…ro?"
Was what he could say before all became blurred.
Her flight had been terrible – what was supposed to have lasted around 6 hours on I-Island private jet took twice as long while another terrible thunderstorm was brewing. Thankfully, their pilot was experience in person. She hated thunderstorms. They were utmost annoying… except, of course, when you could be chilling at home, cocoon wrapped on your blankets watching Netflix with a nice and hot cup of cafe-latte, or peach tea. But her mentor, David Shield, and her best-friend's father had asked her to deliver personally that package to All Might, and that awfully cheerful kid… what was his hero name again? Ah, Deku, that was right.
Why choosing her, that was the mystery. Of course, she had been considered a genius even amongst her peers, graduating two years earlier, and winning her pro license at age thirteen -which was worth nothing, since her parents did not allow her to enact in hero activities until she was at least fifteen – but in real action, her quirk only helped in citizen rescuing situations. That is, if she remained calm. Otherwise… She did not even want to remember the ruckus it had caused last time. Damn side effect.
"Miss Ame? Are you awake? We've just landed." The pilot pointed. "Because of the storm, I couldn't quite reach their field, weather seems to be worse near the school than in this side of the city."
She sighed. Great. A terrible storm, and she was not even inside their campus, and knew not a thing about the city whatsoever. Glad her family was originally Japanese, although she had been brought up in England – because of her late father's job.
"Well, I suppose it can't be helped. Thank you though. It was quite an adventure. I will not delay you any further." She knew this was not his last stop. There were other many secret packages to be delivered safely. "Although it could be wise to wait an hour or two. Take care!"
"I've been doing this before you were born, young lady, no worries! Just give home a sign when you're supposed to return, I'll be here at once."
She waved him goodbye, opening her umbrella and securing her backpack. She did not like traveling with too muck of weight, only bringing up the strictly needed things. The fact Melissa had designed hers with a low weight resistant material combined with an extra-space pockets helped a lot. As she was looking for the mobile for GPS purposes, walking around the city, it buzzed from inside one of her pockets. Speaking of the devil.
"AMEEEEEEEEE, YOU LEFT WITHOUT MEEEEEE AND DIDN'T EVEN TELL WHEN YOU WERE GOING? THAT'S NOT A WAY TO TREAT YOUR BEST FRIEND? WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS WHILE YOU'RE AWAY?"
Shoot. Well, that was expected. Such a drama king.
"You just showed us all the reason, Shakespeare. Besides, I was not the one to choose." And if she had to, she would have chosen the same. "We landed a while ago. Is Melissa there in the back? We had to land a bit far from the school, but I'll try to deliver "the thing" today."
"Kyuuzo, just give the phone, I'll change to video call, she can see both of us then, stop whining, for god's sake! God forbid, you are a hero, aren't you? There we are." Now she could see the faces of her friends. Okita Kyuuzo, her team co-worker at the agency, wore the biggest pout she had ever seen in her whole life, his blue hair dishevelled and golden eyes brimming with tears. Always a softy, except in the battlefield, when his supersonic abilities would shake it out and knock out villains with surgical precision. Melissa, on the other hand, kept her cheerful humour as always. "I'll send you a map once this big jelly let me. If you think it's too dangerous you should handle this tomorrow, there is absolutely no harm. The updated forecast says it is prone to worsen in the next hours. You should find a place to stay." That had passed through my mind as well, as I walked through a small hotel on the way to a café where my net signal would be best for chatting.
"Nah, the fastest I finish this up I will be back home, to keep up with my training. If I stay too far from it, I'll have time to think about … that. Anyway, I have a lot to improve, no time to lose! Besides… You can't handle big jelly whining for too long." I said, giggling, which she joined, us both winning a 'hey' from the man her side of the screen.
"You better take care and don't get into trouble. We both know you tend to be a magnet for that. Shit, how I wish I were there with you."
"Language. Hey, keep cool, I am not exactly the endangered princess. I am a sidekick as well as you are." Suddenly, a loud crashing sound on the outside diverted my attention, and the signal disappeared, ending our call. "Okita? Melissa?" I heard screaming outside, and sounds I knew all too well. Sounds of an ongoing battle.
Even though there was rain, lots of people decided to evacuate the building in front, which ha been hit by someone… Or, rather, something, for that… Monster could not be considered a person. She had heard about them, what were they called? Ah, Nomu. She had heard but had never seen one for real. It bore red skin and an exposed brain, attached to a too muscular body for its own good. And wings, huge bat-like wings. His mouth was dragon-like. She'd heard they were engineered to use multiple quirks, but weren't quite smart, acting more or less as a force of nature. But not this one. He seemed… Strategical… As he'd alternate into using flames produced from his mouth, to brute force … As strategical as the one who'd attacked Endeavor during that live broadcast some time ago. Some hero was fighting him, for apparently, he was focused on thrashing down someone/something.
She watched from inside the rush of people. Some were getting inside other facilities around, but as she well realized, it would not be fast enough for some of them. The bricks and concrete from buildings nearby were collapsing. There was an elder couple and three children on its way. They were not going to make it.
And before she even realized, they were protected by a dense amount of cotton-like… Clouds.
And despite what her friend would say, she was on. Cotton Rescue was on. She had the weather on her favour, for the humidity made it quite easier for cloud making.
Rescuing the citizens, that is all you will do, no smart moves. Just rescuing the people. And you will cause no distress for the actual heroes.
Or… hero? He was alone. There was only one of them. What the hell? Didn't they have a siren or something to call others? What the hell was one thinking to go against that thing on his own? She strained her eyes behind glasses to see who it was. Oh, capture weapon. Alone. Underground Hero Eraser Head. Maybe later she'd ask him a way to get to U.A, she thought.
Another piece of building collapsed – only to be supported by another of her clouds so the citizens below could run away.
"Get somewhere safe! Everyone! I'll help, but do it as fast as you can, please!" She shouted, gong out of the café and dashing towards a child that was paralyzed by fear. "There you go, little one, it's going to be okay." The little girl sobbed and shook in her arms, unable to move properly. Meanwhile, up in the sky, the dragon-like creature changed from brute force or flames to producing fast and multiple air-jets with its wings, irrationally, at first, but soon, he could control them better. "Is there a way to give a signal for help around? I know he is good by himself, but this thing is unpredictable, it is reasonable to ask for help." The girl's mother explained that around the corner should be hotline for such situations, that would connect me straight to the police station, since power was out, and no one could use their phones in this area for now.
She ran fast, trying to find it. There it was.
"Hello, I don't know exactly where this is, but there is a Nomu around, and Pro-Hero Eraser Head is on his own. Some help could be used here. There is power shortage, and we couldn't contact anyone before…"
She heard a strong crash nearby. And a sound she knew all too well. The sound of bone crashing. Up there, he had been bullet-projected towards a wall. "And he was hit and is probably going down. Send help, please!" She was shouting, and had left the line unhang, as ran to help.
That is the role of the sidekick, whether he wanted one or not. Fast hand movements created a cloud to support his falling body. It had to be dense. She had to be fast. She had to make it. That had to do. Otherwise… otherwise… What would she be worth for?
She did it. All she needed to do now was safely bring him to the ground before that thing came over.
But it was too fast. And was coming towards her. Towards them.
And she was afraid. She could see death through her eyes, as the monster approached. Her shoulders burnt; her whole body burnt, and her heart felt as if it was being smashed, as an air tornado engulfed her.
And everything around became lavender.
She had lost control.
She was so tired. All she wanted was to sleep. She felt two arms around her. Had someone come for them? Did she save them? Was that was dying felt like?
"Did… I help them.? Are… the people … safe?" She asked in between harsh breaths. Her chest hurt. There were a hundred pounds pressing against it. She should have stayed away. She should have focused into going to U.A. and getting home fast. But no… She had to play hero.
"Yeah, lil' listener, you did great." She heard an answer, far away… as she passed out.
