When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are. Everything your hear desires will come to you.
Sky looked up at the stars with astonishment. He was hoping to find a wishing star, like the one from the song. He was lying on grass, on a warm summer night with fire flies passing by, and the sound of a lake close to where he was. Sky closed his eyes and wished, with or without a wishing star. Just then, Sky felt someone was watching him. He quickly got up and armed himself with only his fists.
A tall skinny man appeared, wearing a top hat and laughing like a mad man. This was the wicked Dr. Facilier, an evil shadow man.
"Let Darkness take over the world!" he exclaimed while laughing at the same time.
Sky didn't say a word. He simply stood his ground as Shadow Heartless appeared from the ground. They looked like ants, only much more sinister, and with terrible glowing yellow eyes. They then marched their way towards Sky, ready to pounce on him and take his heart. Sky did not allow that to happen. He kicked one Heartless on the face, then he punched a few more with nothing but his fists. One by one, the Heartless were vanishing, leaving nothing behind. Dr. Facilier watched in disgust and shook his head.
"Insignificant bugs! I should never have invoked them for help!" he said, stomping his foot.
Sky looked up and placed his hands on his hips. "Then don't invoke them. Leave the Heartless and use your powers for good things." he said.
"Good things? Good things you say?! Never boy! My powers have one purpose and one purpose only. To rule New Orleans Square, and have all the riches the world has to offer!" he said.
Sky stood his ground again. "That's too bad. I actually kinda liked you." said Sky.
Dr. Facilier simply chuckled. "You flatter me kid. But flattery won't save you. The Shadow Man knows no pity!"
With that, Dr. Facilier grabbed some dust and threw them at Sky. In an instant, a giant shadow appeared and it tried to grab Sky with it's massive hand.
Sky closed his eyes and clenched his fists. "Light, give me power!" he cried. In a matter of minutes, Sky began to glow brightly and using his hands, he released a powerful ray of sunlight against the shadow, destroying it. Dr. Facilier stomped his foot again, enraged his shadow didn't work.
"But why?! You don't have a Keyblade! Not like your father!" cried Dr. Facilier.
Sky frowned. "I may not be a Keyblade Wielder, but I can still use the light to help guide my way." said Sky.
"Until we meet again boy! I don't know your name, and I don't care. I will return, and this time with an armada of Heartless to take you down!" cried Dr. Facilier. He grabbed some dust from his purple jacket and threw it on the ground, disappearing in a cloud of pink smoke.
Sky let out a sigh and used his light power to open a portal. "Well, so much for my small break." He turned and went directly towards the light.
Sky returned home, to Destiny Islands. A beautiful world known for it's beaches, it's islands, and it's peaceful towns. Sky was born and raised there, like his father before him. Sky walked home in the calm night and breathed in some fresh air. This night felt a lot like at New Orleans. Calm and tranquil. Sky arrived home and tried to sneak in.
That is until the light turned on.
Sky turned around and saw his Uncle sitting on a couch. Donald Duck had his arms folded and his beak was twisted with a scowl. "You snuck out again. This is the fifth time this week Sky." scolded Donald.
"Uncle Donald! How long were you waiting there?" asked Sky.
"Long enough." he replied.
Sky knew he was defeated and sat down on the couch. Donald stood in front of him, tapping his foot. "Where did you go? What world?" he asked.
"New Orleans." replied Sky.
"The swamps?! You went to the swamps where there are crocodiles?!" cried Donald.
"The world is peaceful Uncle Donald. I just wanted to walk around in that world." said Sky.
"Why? That world only has damp and cold places. You live in Destiny Islands! A beach world for Heaven's sake!" cried Donald.
"Uncle Donald, please. I just wanted to explore. That's all." said Sky.
"You are just like Sora! You want to go out and do things without even thinking." said Donald.
"I'm sorry Uncle Donald." said Sky lowering his gaze. He did feel bad for sneaking out.
"Your lucky I won't rat you out with your parents. Bless their hearts. If they found out about this, you would have been grounded for life." said Donald.
"My parents aren't that strict." said Sky.
"Are you testing me Sky?" asked Donald.
"No Uncle, I didn't mean it like that." said Sky.
"Listen, there are still Heartless roaming around the worlds. The last thing we all want is for you to lose your heart to those things!" cried Donald.
"i won't lose my heart Uncle. That's a promise." said Sky as he grabbed Donald's hands.
"Sky please. Don't do that again. Your Uncle Goofy and I get worried everytime you sneak out and do Lord knows what." said Donald.
"Where is Uncle Goofy anyway?" asked Sky.
"He's sleeping soundly in the guest room. And I'm turning in too. You better get your bottom to your room." said Donald.
Sky got up and hugged his uncle.
"Geez, for a ten year old kid, you sure cause a lot of trouble." said Donald.
Sky smiled warmly at his Uncle Duck and nodded. "I'll be good. I promise." said Sky.
The following day, Sky was at the beach, hanging out with his best friend Axel. He had dark jet black hair, but with warm blue eyes similar to Sky. In fact, one look at Sky and Axel, one would assume they were twins. But they were not. Sky had light brown hair while Axel had black hair. They were both hanging out by the beach eating their favorite Ice Cream, Rocket Crunch. A chocolate flavored delicacy.
"When are your parents coming back from the Hollow Bastion Summit?" asked Sky to Axel.
"I heard it's going to be a little bit longer. My Dad told me that they are sensing some new form of danger out there." said Axel.
"Of course. There is always trouble in the worlds." said Sky.
"Where did you snuck off too last night?" asked Axel.
"To New Orleans. I fought with old man Facilier again." said Sky laughing.
"The Shadow Man? Dude, that guy is dangerous! He uses dolls and stuff." said Axel.
"So does Maleficent and Pete, and Jafar." said Sky.
"Don't tell me you met those guys!" said Axel.
"Not really. I read about them in Mr. Jiminy Cricket's published journals." said Sky.
Just then, a tall blonde haired girl appeared before the boys. "Aha! I knew I'd find you two little kids here."
"Emily." said Sky, acknowledging her.
"So Emily, any news from the Summit?" asked Axel.
"My father told me they are going to stay longer. Perhaps it's the same reply your father gave you." said Emily.
"Yeah. We're going to be waiting a bit for them to come home." said Axel.
"You miss Twilight Town Axel?" asked Sky.
"I do. I miss seeing my Uncles and Aunts there. Especially my Uncle Lea. He likes to take me to the movies." said Sky.
"Want to go see him? I can open a portal and..." Sky was saying.
"No! You can't. Your power has it's limits you know." said Emily.
"And we don't want you to get in trouble with Mr. Duck again.' said Axel.
Sky remembered the promise he made with his uncle. "I suppose your all right. I don't want want to make him and Uncle Goofy worry." said Sky.
The three kids went back to Sky's place. They were going to study about the worlds with Professor Von Drake, who was going to visit them. Von Drake himself was waiting for the kids in the living room, His board was set up and he had his chalk ready. Von Drake was also a duck like Donald and he tapped his foot as the kids took their seats.
"Well you kiddos arrived a little late today." said Von Drake.
"We were eating Ice Cream!" cried Axel happily.
Emily, who was 14 years old nodded. "I'm sorry Professor. I took them out for Ice Cream." she then gave the boys a wink.
"That's very good! There is nothing wrong with having some Ice Cream time for yourself. Now that your here, let us talk about the origins of the worlds. Can anyone tell me what you know about the creations of our worlds?" asked Von Drake.
Axel raised his hand. "According to the legends, after the great Keyblade War, the world was destroyed. And light survived." said Axel.
"Correct! That is true. What else happened?" asked Von Drake.
Emily raised her hand. "The light that survived existed in the hearts of children who survived the war. They used their hearts to create the worlds outside."
"Correct my dear! What else?" asked Von Drake.
Sky raised his. "With the worlds created, they were now alive and full of different people, cultures and lands." said Sky.
"Very good children! Now can anyone tell me about... this one is going to be a toughie. Does anyone know the story of the fallen Keyblade Wielder Xehanort?" asked Von Drake.
Axel spoke up. "That story makes me dizzy Professor. Even my parents get confused with all the crazy things the old man did." said Axel.
Sky also spoke. "Here's my answer, but it's short. An old man time travels, makes different versions of himself, ruins the worlds with Heartless, until the Warriors of light stood up against him."
Von Drake nodded. "That is a very good and understandable answer." he said.
Emily raised her hand. "Professor... with all due respect, we aren't supposed to talk about him. Xehanort caused a lot of pain in our families." she said.
"I'm very sorry dear. I suppose we can skip this lesson. Xehanort's reign of terror is over, but the Heartless are still around. Can anyone tell me why the Heartless are still in the worlds?" asked Von Drake.
Sky raised his hand. "Because there are bad people in the worlds."
"You are close, but not quite friend." said Von Drake.
Axel spoke up. "It's because there is darkness in every heart."
Von Drake nodded. "That is the correct answer. We all have darkness in our hearts. Good or bad, it doesn't matter. All of us have darkness inside. When you feel angry for example, or feel hatred, one must work to push those negative feelings away, and think happy thoughts." said Von Drake.
Emily spoke up. "But can darkness be channeled? My father used it to help his friends, and to this day he still uses that power. My mother has the ability to shape memories and that in a way counts as darkness."
Von Drake listened carefully, and spoke. "Darkness is very bad when you allow your heart to be consumed by it. In the case of your parents my dear, it was only your father who had to work to balance the darkness in his heart and give way for light. Your mother never had darkness. The ability to change memories was a power stuck between the two. You see, they put darkness and light into balance." said Von Drake.
Axel spoke up. "You mean, people can be good and bad at the same time?"
Von Drake nodded. "What I mean child is that we are not perfect. In all honesty, we all work and do our best to be the best people we can be. A bad person is someone who does not care for life nor others. Think about all the people that are mentioned in Jiminy Cricket's journal. Ursula the Sea Witch, Maleficent, Jafar, Hades, and Captain Hook. They are people who use their power to hurt others and that is not okay.' said Von Drake.
"Then what can we do, to stop the Heartless from taking over the worlds?" asked Sky.
"To push the Heartless away, you need to push away the bad thoughts in your little hearts. If you allow the light to live in your heart, you can push away the Heartless." said Von Drake.
"This doesn't really make sense." said Emily.
Von Drake smiled. "One day, you will all become the next guardians of light. The worlds will need you three to put light and darkness into balance."
That night, Sky was thinking a lot about what Von Drake said. Although he was only ten years old, he was still unsure what he could do to help the worlds. Unlike Emily and Axel, Sky did not have the Keyblade.
Emily's father was Riku, one of the founding members of the Guardians of Light, a team of warriros that protect the worlds. His wife, Namine was always by his side, using her light to guide the way for the heroes.
Axel's father was Roxas, a special kind of Keyblade Master along with his wife Xion. They both came from a dark place, but the light brought them together and their light defeated the darkness that kept hurting them. Along with Riku, they too guard the worlds.
Sky's father on the other hand was none other than Sora. A legendary hero known in many worlds. He and his beloved wife Kairi also have joined the Guardians to watch over the order of the worlds. Sky always dreamed of having a Keyblade like his father and mother, but to this day, Sky was never able to summon it. He wondered why. Two of his friends had the power, but not him. His parents believe there is a special reason for this, but Sky always felt out of place.
He sat down, waiting for the wishing star to appear. That is until he heard a knock on the door. Sky turned to see Goofy walk in carefully.
"Do do do do dum. Ahyuck! Sky, I got you some hot cocoa!" cheered Goofy as he walked in.
"Careful Uncle Goofy!" cried Sky. He left his shoes by the door and Goofy stepped on it. Goofy tried not to fall or anything and Sky quickly helped him.
"That was a close one! Thanks buddy!" cried Goofy.
"No problem Uncle Goofy." said Sky.
"You look down on the dumps today." said Goofy.
"It was today's lesson. We were talking about balancing the light and darkness. But how can we Uncle? I dont have a Keyblade like my Dad. If I had one, I could do the worlds much greater good." said Sky.
"Ahh kiddo. You don't need the Keyblade to be a hero. Look at me and your Uncle Donald. He's got a wand, and I got a shield. Heck, other worlds out there have heroes that don't use Keyblades, and they protect their worlds from the darkness." said Goofy.
"Like who?" asked Sky. He never really met any hero from a world yet. So far, the only world Sky ever snuck to was just New Orleans. It was much closer to Destiny Islands.
"We met a lot of good folks in our travels with your Dad. There was Aladdin, Simba, Mulan, heck a ton of good folks." said Goofy.
"Tell me about one of them. One you remember fondly." said Sky.
"Well, there was one person I did respect and I thought he was very brave. He was actually a prince turned into a Beast! A big ferocious beast!" cried Goofy.
"Wow! Were you scared of him?!" asked Sky.
"When I saw him the first time, yes. But he was a very good person. His days were always gloomy, but sometimes his friends kept him happy and they stood by his side when things got rough for him." said Goofy.
"Did he have a Keyblade?" asked Sky.
"No. He had claws." replied Goofy.
"And he fought the Heartless with that? That's kinda like my punches." said Sky.
"Yeah. Well buddy, I'd best turn in early. You better catch your Z's before tomorrow. I heard Von Drake is going to quiz you guys." said Goofy.
"Yeah, I agree. Good night Uncle Goofy." said Sky as he hugged his Uncle.
That night, on the shores of the islands stood a figure in a black coat. His arms were folded and a shadow heartless appeared before him.
"Are you sure? Is this where the boy is?" asked the hooded figure.
The Heartless nodded and the cloaked figure smiled. "Good. Then commence the operation. This an opportunity I cannot allow to pass."
