Temptation. A ball of gold.
Sand trickling down.
The spinning ring, flashing in the sunlight.
I will always be with you.
Eyes, one azure one black, gazing unrelentingly.
You can't change the past. No matter how many time turners you own, you can't outrun the sun.
His exact words, they haunted her. Three years of planning all result to nothing.
But it was for the best. The past week, month of roller-coasting adventure did rest her mind, unlocking it from its box of slow mania.
A stray tear of relief mixed with regret slipped down her cheek, she quickly wiped it off. No. She was not ruining her makeup with tears. Had she become more sentimental? She wasn't one for crying. Grindelwalds never cry.
Jay snorted, giving herself a shake. It wasn't the time for mourning. Tonight, she will enjoy herself. A celebration for a long-term task well done, even though the results weren't as she expected.
Quickly, she slipped into her costume and put on her mask. The clock said that it was a quarter to eight. Rose would be heading to their meeting place at the entrance hall by now, she'd better hurry.
Pocketing her wand, Jay stole quietly out of the room of requirement, shutting the door behind her with a soft click.
Hogwarts had certainly put a lot of effort into the halloween celebration. Professor McGonagall had actually agreed to the idea of a masquerade dance for this year and the prefects surpassed themselves in the decoration.
"Oye, Albus!" Scorpius burst into the fourth-year boys' bathroom to which Albus was the only occupance. On over-taking his friend, the miniture Malfoy gave a dramatic double-take and whistled. "My, Albus, you look great!"
Albus, who stood in front of the long mirror, gave his bow tie another pull, successfully wrenching the pins out and tearing the delicate fabric of the shirt he wore under his dress-robes. Giving an exasperated sigh, he mended the damage and turned to his best friend, who was looking at him with interest.
"What?" He asked rather defensively and gave the tie another twitch. Scorpius, decked out in silvery-white robes, smirked. "You're actually wearing hair gel. Honestly mate, who put you onto it? I thought maybe that new smoky-eyed DADA professor..." he trails silent under Albus's look.
Albus, turning to the mirror, gave himself and last minute inspection.
His all-black attire made him look slightly pale, his cheeks sallow from want of sunshine, though his complexion was a lot better than a month ago. The usually messy black hair slicked back showing his forehead and the forest green tie made his eyes stand out, the green color sparkled in the light. He did look rather good, Albus supposed, then took a step forward to get a closer look of the scar.
The pale pink line which ran down the left side of his face from brow to cheekbone was nearly invisible now. Looking at it, Albus's thoughts flicked over to the past weeks of adventure, to a pair of sparkling aquamarine eyes...
"Albus? Did you hear what I just said?" Scorpius's voice breaks into his reverie.
"Huh?"
He gives Albus a tug towards the door. "Stop worrying about your looks. Salazar, you're acting like a girl! I said 'It's almost eight o'clock, we have to go or else we'll be late!'" And with another violent pull, Scorpius manages to get Albus out the bathroom door, who garbs his wand just in time.
"Salazar." Albus breathed as he took in the entrance hall before him. Having donned on a simple black mask, he gazed round at the sea of masked people milling round in what seemed to be a graveyard. Mist swirled low over the scene, gravel crunched under their feet and both Albus and Scorpius were careful not to bump into a gravestone or fall into an open grave.
There are witches, vampires, hags and also those who had just worn dress robes like Albus. There were also famous people: a miniature Grawp, Albus Dumbledore and even a Harry Potter complete with scar and glasses.
"That'll be James." He whispered to Scorpius. Scorpius, who had chosen to be Merlin stood out from the gloomy facade in silvery white robes, white hair and beard, complete with a white mask with silver , he didn't answer Albus's question, instead his gaze was fixed on something a few yards away, his mouth parted in awe. Albus turned, and knew the reason for the sudden quietness.
A figure had just descended the stairs.
Chin-length blond curls contrasted sharply with the blood red lipstick. He could see the person's features, sharp aristocratic ones with a dark allure. The eyes, framed in deep shadow, were mismatched. One dark, one light.
Grindelwald 's eyes.
Albus instantly knew who it was. Only one person in the world could have pulled this off. His heart leapt.
A rose is a rose.
Well, Rose did look lovelier than ever this evening.
Auburn hair tumbled down her fair shoulders, sky blue eyes bright and with the white lace dress trimmed with green, she was the perfect spring maiden. Scorpius recognized her instantly.
He walked over.
Jay, her long coat swirling round the black leather leggings she wore, walked over to Rose, who was waving energetically. She rather enjoyed the sound of the heels clicking on the marble floor. Plus, it made her taller.
However, she was cut off before she could reach her friend. Jay broke eye contact with Rose to see who the intruder was, and found herself looking into a pair of bright green eyes, alive in the candlelight.
She opened her mouth to speak...
A swirl of ocean blue, flashes of forest green, flicks of jade...
And Albus felt he couldn't look away.
As azure met green.
"Albus."
"Jay."
