The sun beat on the back of Pyrrha's neck, the cool breeze rushed through her long hair, the weather was too perfect to be true. Pyrrha took a deep breath, inhaling the smell of growing flowers and leaves of growing trees.
She'd always loved the smell of the seasons, the rush of fragrance had always been pleasing to her. Her green irises traced over the large grounds of Beacon as she watched Nora running ahead, dragging Ren behind her. A content smile found it's way to her lips and Pyrrha let out a breath, happy to be outside with the people she'd grown close to.
Jaune strode alongside her, his hands full of picnic baskets, and did his best not to stumble with the food. Pyrrha tucked the blanket they had retrieved from their room further under her arm and made it snug against her side.
"Do you want some help?" Pyrrha asked, extending a hand towards one of the baskets that Jaune was holding. Jaune looked up, his vibrant blue eyes putting the sky's cool color to shame. A smile fell onto his lips and he gave a small shrug.
"I've got it, I think." Jaune nodded as he readjusted for the fourth time. Pyrrha shook her head, admiration for Jaune's strive for independence swelling up. Pyrrha's hand didn't retract, it remained out towards one of the picnic baskets, a silent insistence to taking some of the supplies herself.
"Jaune, let me help."
"I-"
"Jaune." Pyrrha said strongly, though not unkindly. Jaune stared at her for a moment, taking in her features, before he nodded and handed her one of the picnic baskets. Pyrrha smiled instantly, relieved that he had given her some of the weight instead of taking it himself all the way there. As much as she'd seen Jaune grow, he was still on the frequent side of clumsy.
"Thanks."
"Anytime." Pyrrha assured as they walked after their teammates. When they found Ren and Nora, Nora was sitting on a large rock and Ren was standing on the ground beside her. Pyrrha walked over and placed the picnic basket and the blanket on the rock, Jaune following suit after her.
"What took so long?" Nora asked as she swung her legs over the side of the rock, a slightly disgruntled but innocent expression on her face. Pyrrha shook her head a little, a knowing look being based between the other members of team Juniper.
"You ran ahead, Nora." Jaune pointed out as he leaned against the rock while Pyrrha stretched and set to work on placing the blanket on the ground.
"Yeah! I'm hungry!" Nora grinned as she started peeking into the baskets that Jaune and Pyrrha had brought. Ren grabbed her wrist and tugged her down from the rock.
"Let's wait until it's time to eat. It's not ready yet." Ren advised as he gestured towards Pyrrha, her hands set on smoothing out the blanket and making as much room as possible for the team.
"Aww. Come on Ren, let's go exploring! Be back in a few!" Nora called out as she grabbed Ren by the sleeve and drug him off towards the path further into the grounds. Jaune waved at the pair before getting on the ground and assisting Pyrrha.
"I'm almost done." Pyrrha said, her eyes looking up to meet Jaune's. She ignored the rush of heat as Jaune stared at her, a happy smile on his face.
"I'll get the food." Jaune informed as he stood up and walked towards the rock to retrieve the baskets.
Pyrrha sat on the blanket and crossed her legs, her hands reaching towards the edges of the blanket and playing with the ends. She twisted the little strings that had rebelled against the stitching. Jaune sat down with the baskets and set some of the food out.
The shade of the tree they were under was cooling. Pyrrha soaked in the shadow from the straying branches and the leaves that shielded her from the beating sun. The large trunk was old, the bark fraying and threatening to abandon it's place. Pyrrha leaned back against the tree trunk and let out a content sigh.
Silence fell between them for a few moments as Pyrrha savored the pure feeling of being outdoors. The feeling of the wind passing by, waving at them as it moved on to follow it's path. The grass that spread over much of the grounds was growing, strong and so richly green.
"Pyrrha?"
Pyrrha snapped her eyes open, the call of her name shocked her away from her thoughts. She met Jaune's gaze as he gave a careful expression towards her.
"Yes?"
"Sandwich? Figured you'd want one before Nora came back and ate them all." Jaune chuckled slightly and Pyrrha gave an appreciative smile as she took the food.
"Thank you." Pyrrha nodded as she took a bite of her sandwich. Jaune nodded, a grin on his face, before he leaned back on his elbow and began eating.
"Do you like eating outside?" Jaune asked as he watched Nora and Ren come into view, Nora chatting excitedly about whatever they had found and Ren nodding along behind her, a smile on his face. Pyrrha smiled at the sight, her eyes never leaving them as they continued to approach the other members of their team.
"Yes, I do. It's very good to be outside." Pyrrha answered with a wistful tone in her voice. Jaune nodded beside her and took another bite of his sandwich before giving a small shrug.
"Then we'll have to do it more." Jaune said before smiling and looking up at her. Pyrrha grinned, a truly genuine expression crossing over her features as she looked down at the boy.
"That'd be lovely."
