Chapter One: Not All Things Are As They Seem

Mace Windu believed himself to be the role model of the Jedi. He was seemingly perfect, a staunch traditionalist, always adhering to the code. To prevent attachments, he portrayed himself as a stern and gruff master. It was a perfect decoy. No one would ever suspect him of anything. What no one knew, let alone suspected, was that he had had a daughter with the Jedi master Adi Gallia. And their daughter's name was Katooni.

Following Adi Gallia's Death On Florrum:

Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi was saddened. He had just watched his fellow council member Adi Gallia slayed by the hand of Savage Opress. Now on his way back to Coruscant, Kenobi sat in his shuttle in silence. Knowing that he could not delay the inevitable, no matter how much it pained him, he had to inform the council of Gallia's death, he owed them that much. Feeling like a complete failure, not worthy of the rank of Master, he contacted the council. The holographic form of the Jedi council chamber popped up.

" You have a report." Master Mace Windu stated, then he frowned as he sensed the dispair in Kenobi. " A problem is there, Master Kenobi?" Yoda inquired," sense great sorrow from your being, I do." Obi-Wan took a deep breath, and inwardly reciting the Jedi code he said," Master Adi Gallia…she…is-" He stopped, unable to finish his sentence. " She is what?" Master Ki-Adi Mundi prompted. " Sighing wearily he informed them of the heart breaking news," she is deceased"

Master Mace Windu inhaled sharply," are you sure of this Master Kenobi," he asked in a harsh manner. For a brief instant, Kenobi was was tempted to throttle the Jedi master, and probably would have had he not been a hologram. " NO!" Kenobi snarled sarcastically," I just made that up!" " General Kenobi," Shaak Ti gently chided," what happened, who killed her?" " That blasted Darth Maul and his STUPID apprentice Savage Opress! If I ever lay my eyes on them again, I will kill them!" Plo Koon was bothered by the darkness that swirled around his comrade," Master Kenobi, you seem unsettled." Kenobi took a deep breath, and regained his normally calm demeanor.

" Agree with Master Koon I do, unsettled you are. Disturbing the death of Mastet Gallia is. Select a new member we must." " But who?" Sasee Tin inquired. " What about Luminara Unduli?" Kit Fisto suggested. Why her? Mace Windu thought to himself. We should pick someone like Stass Allie. Yes, Stass Allie, it'd be perfect. She is on the circle of healers, her expertise would be useful. "Jedi temple to Master Windu," Kit Fisto's voice said," do you have a opinion?" Belatedly, Mace realized that he had missed half of the conversation. Apparently everyone expected him to say something. " Oh, yes. What about Stass Allie. Nobody has has put forth her as a candidate yet.

" Masters Agen Kolar, Shaak Ti, Ki-Adi- Mundi and I just suggested her," Oppo Ranciss said, a hint of annoyance crept into his voice. " In which case I vote for her." " Then decided it is," Yoda said," inform the Stass Allie we must." Stass Allie was summoned to the council room. She walked, an expression of pain could be seen in her eyes. " She's dead isn't she?" She said nodding toward her cousin's empty seat. All of the other chairs, wether holographically or physically, were filled, except for Gallia's. The council members were taken aback, they hadn't expected this. " Sorry for your loss, we are. Our condolences you have." " Thank you, Masters." Allie stood there, waiting to be rebuked for her attachment to her cousin, it never came.

" Master Stass Allie," Plo Koon said, and she tensed," the council has voted. You're to replace Adi Gallia." " What?" Never had Stass been so bewildered. Ki-Adi- Mundi sighed, Stass was clearly still processing her cousin's death, and wasn't thinking very well. This was to be expected, nevertheless Mundi got up, and gently steered her to the empty council seat, and sat her down. Yoda chuckled," hmm get it now do you?" " I-I think so." good, then adjourned this meeting is."

Two Days Later:

Master Windu was hurrying down the hallway of the youngling dorms. He had been kept busy for two days straight, he had been unable to talk to his daughter about her mother's death. Judging from Master's Stass Allie's report on her recent depression, he figured that she already knew. He ran into the Jedi Master in charge of her initiate clan. " May I speak with Initiate Katooni?" he asked. " The Jedi Master nodded her head,"yes, she is in a class right now with Master Aayla Secura, but I can pull her out." "I'll do it, thank you."

After retrieving his daughter, he took her somewhere he thought was private. "Katooni, he said," I'm so sorry about your mother." Katooni leaned against him, and sobbed. He folded her into a hug. " Daddy, how did Mommy die?" Unknown to both Windu and Katooni, Plo Koon, was watching them, carefully keeping his force signature hidden. He felt a pang of sorrow for the pair, as he wondered how Adi Gallia had been able to hide her pregnancy from the Jedi. What further complicated matters was that Plo was certain that she had been on the council during it, so how had she accomplished that seemingly impossible feat? As compassionate as he was toward them, the Jedi master knew that he must report this to Grandmaster Yoda at once.

Plo Koon made his way to Master Yoda's quarter's, contemplating how he should handle the matter concerning Mace Windu. He was so deep in thought, that he almost ran into Shaak Ti. " Master Plo, are you alright?" " I am doing perfectly well, Shaak." "You seem rather lost. Where are you going? We have a council meeting." " What?" Plo looked down at his comlink, and found that Ti was correct. " I was going to speak to Master Yoda, but that will have to wait." " Hmm," said a voice," speak to me you still can. A problem, Master Plo, is there?" " Greetings Master, I didn't sense you there." " Distracted you are." Yoda stated. " Yes Master, there has been a new development. I mean about Adi Gallia." He looked at Shaak Ti," can you keep a secret?"

Ti looked slightly bemused," from who?" " The rest of the council." " Of course, but why?" Plo sighed," Adi Gallia has a child, at the temple, and the child knows about it." " Know this how do you?" Yoda asked inquisitively. " I overheard a conversation between Mace Windu and his daughter Katooni." Yoda's eyes widened slightly," his daughter you say, with the late Master Gallia I presume?" " That's my suspicion as well. They didn't actually say his name, but she is the only person I can think of that Windu would have fallen in love with, that has died recently." "Intriguing this is, thoughts have you Master Ti?" " Master Yoda, Mace is the last person that anyone would suspect breaking the code like that. How do you propose we handle it?" " Tell the council yet, we will not. Arouse suspicions it would. Speak to young Katooni I must"
