ENJOY!
The halls of the maternity hospital in Harmon Village were quiet. Well, except for the occasional scream of intense pain from soon-to-be mothers in labor. And the typing sounds coming from the medical receptionist's desk.
But in the waiting room, it was empty except for chairs, coffee tables and one man sitting impatiently, his legs shaking up and down as his nerves refused to leave him alone.
This man happened to be Lou Brookstone, leader of the famous quartet group, The Royal Blacksmiths. He was quietly waiting as his wife, Lilly, was inside one of the delivery rooms down the hall giving birth to their first child. He had remained by her side throughout the entire time until the doctor told him that he needed to wait outside until they were ready to see him.
Lou couldn't help but constantly worry for his wife. Just nine hours ago, Lilly went into labor. Just nine hours ago, he rushed her to the hospital and spent every moment by her side doing everything he could to help ease her pains. Nobody ever said bringing a child into the world was a piece of cake.
It was only two hours ago that he was told to leave the room while Lilly brought their unborn child into the world. Every second he sat in that waiting room felt like a million years have passed by. He couldn't get rid of the nagging questions and constant worrying that continued to invade his mind.
I just can't help but worry. Hoping and praying to the Great Sensei that Lilly will be okay. I just can't help but fear that something bad will happen. What if I lose Lilly or the baby? What if I lose them both? What if there are complications? Oh, why can't I get rid of these bad thoughts? I shouldn't be thinking such things. Everything will be fine. Lilly's a strong woman. With everything she's been through in her life, bringing a child into the world shouldn't be any different.
Lou had wished that his parents were here with him. But his father was gone after being struck down with pneumonia and his mother pretty much disappeared without a trace. He never was able to find her. There were no brothers or sisters he could have with him since he was born an only child. And Lilly didn't have family since she spent her whole life in an orphanage. So it was just him. All alone inside the waiting room. Inside the quiet atmosphere. Hating every moment of it.
A few minutes passed and just before Lou was about to move from his seat, a nurse walked inside the waiting room area, a smile on her face. He always heard that when the nurse comes in, that meant everything was okay. Nothing was wrong. But if the doctor came, then a husband better be ready for the worst. But at least it was the nurse and that calmed his rapidly beating heart.
The nurse continued smiling as she walked up to Lou, who got up out of his seat. "Mr. Brookstone, I'm happy to tell you that your wife and newborn baby are doing wonderful. I'm proud to say that you are now a father. Congratulations."
Lou couldn't believe his ears. The words that he just heard. He was now a father. A father. He never thought that would ever be possible. He and Lilly have tried for seven years to become parents. After so long, it finally happened. Lou never thought he could ever be any happier than he was standing there in the waiting room.
But he should be seeing his wife and new baby. "May I see them?"
"That's why I'm here," the nurse said, "Follow me, please."
Lou was never a big fan of hospitals. He always had a fear of hospitals ever since he got his tonsils taken out when he was only a child of seven. But he knew a doctor was the only one who could help deliver his and Lilly's baby, so he took a deep breath and faced his phobias. He was finally relaxed when the nurse brought him to his wife's hospital room.
She opened the door and nodded for him to go inside. After what felt like forever waiting, he finally got to see Lilly lying in the hospital bed, looking happier than ever before in her tired state. She held a little bundle of blue in her arms, which placed one thought in Lou's mind.
Lilly looked up and smiled at her husband. "Lou, come and meet our beautiful little boy."
Not hesitating for one second, Lou went over and looked at his new son. Nobody could ever define how happy Lou was to finally be a father. Especially to a little boy. To be honest, he didn't mind what the gender of the baby was, as long as they were healthy. Many fathers would want to make sure they had sons, but Lou was a different man. He wouldn't of minded having a daughter and it would be the same with having a son. He would be happy either way as long as he finally got the chance to father a child.
Lilly handed the baby to his father and Lou couldn't help but look into his child's eyes as he gently hugged and kissed his newborn son's forehead. Such a little miracle in his arms. He may have only just met him, but even before he was born, Lou already loved him so much.
Now there was one thing his and Lilly's new baby was missing.
"You know, I don't even think we thought of a name for him," Lou told his wife.
"I know one, but you probably wouldn't like it," Lilly said.
"Tell me."
"Well, I was told I had a grandfather who's name was Cole. And they say his father was also named Cole. They told me I came from a long line of coal miners. But I don't think you would like it."
Lou chuckled. "Actually, I love that name. It suits our son. And it's a lot better than the name I had in mind."
"What name did you have in mind?" Lilly asked.
"Well, I was thinking we could name him Richard since that was my father's name, but that's more of a middle name than a first name nowadays."
Lilly gave it some thought and put the name together. "Cole Richard Brookstone. I love how that sounds."
Lou smiled, handing their son back to Lilly. "Then that's what we'll call him. Welcome to the Brookstone family, Cole."
Welcome to the world, future master of earth.
SO HOW WAS IT? SWEET, RIGHT?
