Chapter I
~ Adventure Awaits ~

Once upon a time, in the imaginative land of the proteges from the school of Calypso, the kids all gathered together to build up a royal kingdom for a fun activity for today. They set up the finishing touches for the big coronation of Princess Chloe. The toys and blocks that scattered all over the floorboards, were now being carefully lined up from one side to another as they faced centre stage where their teacher stood her ground. Sluggishly, she took a stroll down the middle, glancing to her left and right watching her aptly dressed citizens work to the best of their abilities.

"This is looking fantastic, kids!" Queen Calypso happily exclaimed. "I'm sure the princess of our beloved kingdom will be so proud!"

"Make sure everything in each of these rows are perfectly aligned!" Honey added, "Tis' be a very urgent day for our royal highness!"

Chatters filled the interior as their tails started to spark their emotions. With their best paw forward and countless effort exerted into this day, it looked like it was going to be the perfect event for everyone in the class.

Meanwhile, outside the school, Princess Chloe stood her ground, donning a royal dress a foot or two separated from the door. The young dalmatian looked down at her hands, her anxiety slowly building up inside her body. She rubbed her hands, hoping it would help soothe her nerves. While her hands shook out of fear, her blue companion, donning nothing but just a saddle approached her on all fours with care.

"Oh, my trusty steed, I really don't know if I can do this!" Chloe said, as she turned to Bluey, who exerted a soft neigh. "Huh? You really think so?" The heeler nodded with a smile. "I'm sorry. I'm just so nervous that something out there's going to ruin this big day for me." She gulped. "This role I've been destined to obtain comes with these types of risks I'm afraid to face on my own and-"

Interrupting, Bluey rubbed against the side of her owner, dropping the bit of anxiety that got her all worked up. Looking down at her, a comforting smile registered in the dalmatian. "You know, you certainly have a point, Bluey," A determined expression overtook her face, her fists balled up for dominance. "In order to fulfill this role I was meant to have, I need to be fearless, and confident!" She took a glance over to Bluey once more. "Besides, anything's bound to happen that I or anyone else has zero control over, right?"

Bluey responded with the most blissful sounding neigh she could dig up.

The dalmatian giggled. "You can speak, you know, we're not starting just yet."

Bluey stood on her hind legs and responded with clear English. "I'm aware of that," she laughed. "I'm just so into this role that I could barely help myself!" The young blue heeler passed her hand onto Chloe's shoulder, patting it down firmly as she verbally delivered her confidence booster. "I'm sure you'll do great, Princess Chloe."

The dalmatian doe-eyed the blue heeler and exerted a smile. "Thanks, Bluey." She turned back to the door to see a smiling Calypso poking her face out just before Bluey dropped back down to her fours.

"We're all ready for you, Chloe—"

"Ahem, princess," the dalmatian corrected.

The big shepherd chuckled. "Oh right, Princess Chloe. Just give us a knock whenever you're ready!" She closed the door and walked away, her footsteps gradually fading out.

With two feet in front of the door, and fists balled once again, Chloe closed her eyes. She took a deep inhale through her wet nostrils and exhaled with wonderful force. Joining her hands together with confidence, she uttered under her breath. "Let's do this."

Back inside the school, the big coronation of the young dalmatian was finally underway. Aside from an abundance of clouds invading the clear blue sky, barely affecting their day, everything was still going according to plan. A knock ensued from the door, signaling Honey's cue to switch on the radio and Calypso's cue to grasp the royal sequined crown. It blasted some ceremonial themed music as the rest of the citizens lined up accordingly, facing the door as it opened up slightly.

Princess Chloe walked in slowly, approaching the centre stage as the citizens gazed upon her highness. While one of them went as far as bowing down out of respect, the rest subsequently followed. So far for her, nothing went wrong. As long as it stood this way for the rest of her eventful moment, she would have nothing to worry about. Her trustworthy steed followed her from behind, almost gushing out her liquid pride from her sockets. She had come a very long way to reach for the dream she wanted to her heart's content. In just a few moments, she was finally going to get what she'd been chasing since the beginning of time.

The princess herself finally reached the stage. With all eyes centered on Chloe, the ruler's assistant beagle dimmed the music immensely.

The ruler, Queen Calypso, focused her vision on the dalmatian below her. "Princess Chloe," she said. "I've known you for such a very long time now. You were a quirky little pup, with great wits and smarts that had us all blown away, especially me. The kindness and generosity you've expressed to us was such an astonishing moment for every single one of us to witness at our kingdom. And for that, we've deeply cherished that display of love for us to remember for a long time. You've been such a wonderful little friend to us all."

Chloe took a smiling glance from behind, then swiftly back to the multi-colored shepherd. "Thank you very much, Queen Calypso," she spoke, her face turning a shade a pink momentarily, "That means a whole lot to me."

The queen took a step forward towards the soon to be princess about to make history with the inauguration. "So, with that out of the way, I hereby decree that you, Princess Chloe, be officially enthroned to..."

Before she could even reveal the next word, a rumbling was approaching the school at such a blistering rate. The citizens began to tremble with fear, almost as if the whole ground began to vibrate underneath their feet. Instantly, the princess herself could already feel that something was wrong, once again disintegrating her confidence out from her existence.

Bluey turned around to face the door, only to witness it flying wide open without warning. Feeling a sensation of her heart pounding inside her cage, she let out a terrified whinny as a relentless dragon charged to the stage, shoving her out of the way as its actions incited panic from the citizens. From hopping out of the windows, to hiding behind others, everybody was afraid of what was subsequently about to occur next.

Not even a quick second in, Chloe screamed at the top of her lungs. The queen and the apprentices had no idea what to do now as they nervously witnessed the dragon put the dalmatian right in its grasp as she struggled to free herself. With a satisfied and victorious roar, it turned back to the door, in an attempt to make a break for it.

While the beast savagely knocked down Bluey, she got up again. All of this planning and effort for the highness of the dalmatian would not be simply dashed all because of one determined monster. Realizing this, she stood in front of the open entrance. She snorted to show her dominance. She had a gut feeling that she could take on anything that stood in her way or put the princess in grave danger. With a courageous neigh from the blue heeler, she charged at the green mythical beast.

As the beast stood its ground while Bluey approached closer every second, it pawed at the ground before she was in range with the dragon. After the heeler attacked using her chompers, the dragon exerted another roar, this time sounding painful. Visible clouds snorted from the beast's snout as it wailed on the blue heeler, knocking her into a fort of pillows, as well as a glass of milk.

Indy shrieked. "My precious hospital!"

"My health potion!" Winton whined.

Princess Chloe gasped. "My steed!" She turned to the reckless dragon and stared it down. "Alright you savage beast, let go of me this instant!"

A beat of silence panned out between them for a brief moment aside from the shrieks of terror, but unfortunately for the princess, it didn't work. All she did was inadvertently provoke the beast even more. It felt like getting told what to do in a place where one could feel so free. The dragon uttered some soft growls escorting itself out of the building, but not before picking up Chloe's blue steed by its jaws, the heeler whining as its second hostage. The dalmatian cried out desperately for assistance. "Somebody do something, please!"

"Oh, no you don't!" Calypso spat.

"Stop that beast!" Honey commanded. Although barely anyone in the building had any experiences with combat and defense, Winton sprung into action with the only thing that exposed his coruscation; grabbing onto the dragon's tail. With everyone else's quick thinking, they lined up together as quickly as they could and assisted Winton in keeping the beast stay put.

Giving it all they've got, they tugged on it as hard as they could. Calypso covered her lips, watching the tense situation go down.

"Come on!" Winton spat. "Keep pulling!"

"That monster's gonna pay for what it did to my hospital!" Indy spoke.

When the kids took a full step back, Winton inadvertently stepped on a block. He slipped on it, causing him to lose his grasp as the group screamed as they fell. The dragon left the building unscathed.

It left the citizens fazed from the encounter. They tried their best efforts to put up a fight trying to help Chloe and Bluey. But unfortunately, their attempt fell flat on their hindquarters.

"Oh no," Honey uttered. "It… it got away."

"Aww…"

"Curses!"

"Fishsticks!"

"I can't believe this all happened in the blink of an eye." Calypso said, still in shock. "Our poor kingdom… our princess…"

"Everything was going to be perfect," Indy brushed herself off. "...and then that just happened!"

"Unbelievable!" Honey grunted just as her fists balled up and slammed the floorboard. "We've got to get those two back!"

Coco walked up to the beagle who's now staring off into the horizon through the open door. "What do you suggest we do, Honey?"

"The only other hope this kingdom has left, Coco." She shifted to the pink poodle, glancing dead in her face. "Send in the Romans."

Calypso looked out her window to the right. "Wherever they may be, we need them now more than ever."

Later on the same day, out on the open field near the woods, the three terriers took turns shooting their arrows at some apples in the vibrant colored trees. Currently, it was the dark grey terrier's turn to try to score. The black terrier on the other hand, was conjuring up the best names they could go by for their next adventure. The light grey hound took his time inspecting the fruit he had already obtained just a moment ago. Did it look good enough for him to devour? Did it smell rotten for him to toss? Chances are, he was a curious but brave little pooch who wouldn't dare knock something unless he tried them.

"Hey brothers," the black terrier spoke. "What do you think of these names? Ketch, Mustar, and Elish?"

Thinking, the light gray terrier spoke, "Nah, that sounds… strange."

"I don't think those names that remind me of condiments would fit well for us." The dark gray pup responded, arching an arrow back as he aimed at a fruit.

"Keep trying, brother." The light grey terrier crunched on his juicy fruit. "I'm sure the right names would ring a bell soon."

The black terrier's arms crossed, slightly looking away from his two comrades. "Oh, but I'm trying my best…" He tried again from the top of his head, without even exerting any effort or thought. "Alfie, Theo, and Simon!"

Those names caught the dark gray brother off guard, facing his brother in a daze. "Huh?"

The light gray hound shook his head slightly, glancing down at the ground. "Nah… I still don't think those will fit us either."

The dark gray pooch shot his arrow, unaware that it penetrated a fresh fruit as it fell to the green. "Yes!" he exclaimed. "Finally, after four missing arrows, I've finally mastered the simple skill of archery that I've been seeking for a while!"

He impressed his two companions. "Ooh," they clapped simultaneously. "Nice work!"

The dark gray terrier showed off his smile and bowed. "Appreciate the comments, my fellow comrades." He set his weapon down. "Although I think I'm still better off with using a sword while we're in combat."

"When are we going to play some more romans again?" The light gray pup asked.

"I'm surprised we haven't played that in a long time..."

"Ooh, I think I might have got it, brothers," The black pup uttered. The mentioning of their favorite games had sparked some ideas for what names they could go by. Grabbing both of his brother's attention, he spat out the following suggestions. "Maximus, Rufus, and uh… Zeus!"

The three terriers stood for a second as they processed the names the black terrier spat out with glee. It fit the theme of what they like to play, and they all sounded perfect, like a musical, immortal trilogy to their earlobes. Regarding this, their reactions were unanimous. "Yes!"

The only problem they faced from this point forward was to decide who's named who. Realizing this, the terriers sighed. They had a gut feeling that they would try to argue about who gets what. Despite that, they just had to give it a shot.

"I know we're going to do the thing we do when we have to choose," The dark gray hound said. "so let's try to work this out without having to squabble."

"Oh, alwight." The light gray terrier responded.

"Okay." The black terrier added, before scratching at his chin. "I really like the name Zeus for some particular reason…"

"Maximus sounds like a brave name for me to work with..."

The dark gray terrier rolled his eyes and sighed. "...And I guess I'm gonna claim the only name that hasn't been mentioned yet."

"Come on, it sounds fluffy!" Zeus responded.

"I think Rufus sounds like a great fit for you, brother!" Maximus uttered with flair.

Rufus thought about his name they have offered him. While it fit the theme they were going for, he noticed something that didn't feel quite right regarding the name suggestions. He turned to the black terrier, "Hey uh, Zeus?" he spoke. "Why'd you choose that name? Why not something more intimate, like um… Jupiter?"

"The bringer of jollity?" Maximus uttered.

Zeus shook his head. "To be honest, that was my next best suggestion," he responded. "But this name sounded a lot more cooler, at least for me!"

Rufus shrugged. "Alright then. You're free to be Zeus all you want, instead of going by your actual name."

"It's a boring name, okay? Just never speak of it."

Just as they were about to grab an apple to replenish their energy, a frightened English bulldog approached the trio, mail in hand. Within range, the pup panted heavily because of his lack of stamina.

"Terriers," Winton paused, catching his breath. "You guys... are not going to believe this."

The trio turned to the bulldog. "What's the hubbub?" Rufus asked.

Winton panted one more as he extended his arm out to offer the trio the piece of mail he possessed. "The details are all inside this envelope! They've sent me down here to deliver this urgent message from the queen of our kingdom!"

Maximus snagged the piece of mail from the panting pup and pried it open, extracting and unfolding the slip of paper inside. His two companions approached towards him, desired to read the message along with the light gray terrier.

"My three brave fellow warriors, the princess along with her blue steed has been unexpectedly captured by an unruly dragon. The residents are in need your mandatory assistance at once, to save our beloved one as we do everything in our power to restore our kingdom! We're all counting on you, signed Queen Calypso!"

Rufus gasped. "Oh my gosh! And they had to do this on a very important day for Princess Chloe?"

Zeus covered his mouth. "Oh no! She was supposed to have her coronation today! How very dare they have the nerve to ruin this for her!"

Maximus refolded the letter and turned to his brothers. "Well then, my comrades," His eyes squinted. "I think we all know what we have to do."

Winton gasped, his little tail twitching from excitement. "Ooh, if it is what I think you guys are doing, I'm going with you guys!"

The trio stood quiet for a moment. They weren't too sure if they needed the English bulldog out of all the other kids that could join their party.

Rufus tried to sound as nice and reasonable as he could with Winton. "Oh, um… we three terriers appreciate the concern, but I think we can handle this task-"

"Aww come on, you never know what could happen! What if you guys get outnumbered? It'll be curtains!"

The three terriers shared a glance. He had a point. The evil side may have thought this situation through. If they wanted to have the upper paw to defeat the root of evil that threatened their kingdom, they need to be one step ahead. Realizing this after the bullpup's little advice, they smiled and nodded to him.

"You know what? You're right," Maximus said.

Zeus walked away a foot to retrieve his weapons. "We've got to show evil we don't go down without a fight!"

Rufus popped his knuckles. "If we're going to stand a chance, we need to gather up the biggest party of warriors we can form!"

Maximus expressed lividness and confidence after each word. "And thwart their intentions as we take back the princess!"

The four pups cheered on before Rufus and Maximus snagged an apple, chowing them down. Replenishing their energy and feeling less famished now, they dropped their cores and grabbed a sword. All together, sans Winton, they clashed their swords together as they loudly blurted out their catchphrase. "For us, for the queen, for Scotland!"

"...and the Princess!" Zeus added.

And with that, they headed off into the abundance of trees one by one, officially putting their next adventurous game of Romans to an astounding start inside the forest. Winton stopped for a moment to gaze at a fresh picked apple that fell to the grass. He moistened his chops swiftly before he noticed the terriers left him behind. He picked up the red juicy fruit and sprinted to the trio of pups. "Hey! Wait for me, you guys!"

And so began their next big fantasy of an adventure, only this time, with a new ally to help the trio of terriers at their aid already. What troubles would they encounter to save the damsels in distress? Whatever may happen along the way, they would be able to pull through, as a party of four.
