A/N: how are my favorite bitches~!

yes i am making another fanfic i got inspired as hell while listening to the song "black swan" and reading a ft fanfic. Don't like Fairy Tail or don't know what it is? You don't have to read this if you don't want to!

All I own is the plot and my OC, nothing else.

ENJOY!

Flashes of lightning and the boom of thunder rang through the air as a dark storm rolled over Magnolia. Laxus growled deeply. This was not what he had been expecting to get out of his job. Yes, he got nearly three million Jewel, but now he was considered a criminal for bailing some kid out of jail after the kid had wrongly been accused of some horrible crime. He had gone with nobody but Freed, who was his partner (both as friends and lovers).

The client had asked the two to take the kid with them if possible, but the kid was young. Powerful, but young; almost as young as Wendy, the quiet little Sky dragon slayer.

Freed had declined the offer to take the child with them, with an apologetic expression. So now, that child was on the run from the law, on her own. Laxus felt a twinge of guilt in his stomach, but left it alone.

Now, that young girl was no idiot. In fact, Laxus figured she was probably as smart as Levy, in a different way. She was intelligent and wielded magic quite well, but academically, she was not the best. She knew important life skills that she'd actually use, not how to solve for X… or whatever the hell that was (although she was good at that).

The rain from the oncoming storm began to lightly fall, gradually getting heavier. Laxus' dragon slayer nose was cut down to a regular human's scent due to the rain. He growled again, softly, that twinge of guilt he felt before growing to a knot in his stomach.

"Something wrong, Lax?" Freed asked, noticing his partner's discontent.

"It's nothing much. I just kinda feel bad about leaving such a young kid out on her own like that."

Freed laughed. "I never would have guessed. The great Lightning dragon slayer Laxus, feeling guilty about leaving a young girl out to venture the world," he teased.

Laxus hissed, but couldn't hold back his laughter. "How could I not? She's so small and so young. She's powerful, but she can't exactly take care of herself right now."

The Rune wizard sighed. "Well, it's not like we can go back now. Try not to dwell on it."

The duo arrived back at the Fairy Tail guild hall, banging open the door. Everybody turned towards the entrance and Laxus glowered at his fellow guild members, as his way of showing love (although few people actually knew that; those who didn't were always terrified of that glower).

Natsu let out a bark of laughter, jumping up. "You're back, Laxus, fight meee!" He ran towards the Lightning dragon slayer, fists wrapped in fire, a gigantic grin on his face. Laxus chuckled and punched the other dragon slayer, using a tiny bit of lightning magic. The pink-headed boy was thrown across the hall and crashed into a wall before falling down.

"Shouldn't you have learned not to challenge me by now, Natsu-kun?" the Lightning wizard said lazily, fist crackling with lightning. The others in the guild hall laughed while Natsu was yelling with fire coming out of his mouth.

The large double doors to the hall slammed shut, but nobody closed them, and nobody was using magic, either. Freed jumped and let out a tiny yelp of surprise. Laxus tensed a bit, but didn't let any other expression of surprise show. Everybody faced the entrance, but nobody was there, and no sign of who had closed the door was apparent.

"What's going on?" Mirajane questioned after coming back into the guild hall. She had been checking on Wendy, who had gotten badly hurt after a recent job she'd taken on.

"Hello, Mirajane," Freed replied, turning to face the young woman. "Honestly, we aren't sure. The doors just slammed shut on their own. Nobody used magic and nobody closed the door."

The Takeover wizard thought for a moment, face serious. "This could be a prank, or somebody had just been respectful and closed the door because apparently nobody noticed that it was raining." Mira was very kind and loving, but she had quite a sharp tongue. Cana laughed, in her oddly drunken state that she never quite seemed to fall out of due to her drinking issues.

"Well, I'll check outside, then," Freed said slowly, reaching for the door.

"No, no, I can go, Freed. I'm the most comfortable in the water, anyway," Juvia cut in. "I'll be back in a moment!" She ran out of the hall, rain soaking her instantly, but she didn't mind as the doors closed again.

A few minutes later, the doors opened again and the Water wizard slipped inside, totally dry.

"I didn't see anyone. Perhaps they ran off and I was simply not quick enough, or maybe it was just the wind. Either way, nobody was there," she explained.

Levy stood up suddenly and announced, "Perhaps someone is using an invisibility spell of some kind. It's not something I can break, but if somebody knows about it, the magic used to cast the spell that moment, what had seemed like empty air wavered in (roughly) the shape of a human, but went back to normal. Laxus used his lightning magic and tried to aim around that space, but he hit nothing. The door opened and closed once more, and for the rest of the guild hall's open time, nothing odd happened. Soon, everybody went back to their normal shenanigans and the incident had been forgotten.

A week passed and nothing had happened. Gray had gone on a job with Natsu, Lucy, and Erza, and they had been coming back today. The town was quiet except for whispers, eerily like that day when the four (five if you count Happy) had arrived back in town and their guild hall had been nearly destroyed by Gajeel's attack during the last night. They panicked and headed towards the guild hall, but it looked totally normal.

"I'll go talk with the locals to find out what's going on," Lucy murmured before slipping into the crowded streets of Magnolia.

"Lucy, wait-" Natsu called after her, far too late.

"Natsu, she's capable of doing this herself. Let's go inside and see if anyone in the guild hall knows," Erza cut in quietly. "Gray, go ahead and find the Master."

Both boys obeyed the armored wizard, too scared to face her wrath.

Lucy ran through the streets, pulling aside the whisperers and asking what was going on in a low voice, before running back to the guild hall and catching up with her team to give her report.

"So? Did you find anything?" Happy asked eagerly.

Lucy nodded, a serious look on her face. "Remember that job Laxus and Freed went on a little while ago? That kid they helped break out of prison? Yeah, well… the child is legally missing now. The whole government is looking for them."

Suddenly, Gray appeared, looking worried. "Guys! Come quick!" The others ran (and flew) to the Fairy Tail guild hall, where Master Makarov was sitting on the bar with a grave expression.

"Master?" Erza asked, concern lining her voice. The old guild Master looked up and, upon seeing the team's appearance, addressed his guild.

"A mysterious character has appeared in Magnolia. They have been seen only a few times, but always disappeared into the shadows after realizing they've been spotted. Nobody knows who it could be. They haven't made any aggressive moves yet, so we aren't sure if they have malicious intent. Still, I would ask that everyone keep their guard up. It may be a good idea to stay in teams to minimize the chances of attack, similar to what we did when Phantom Lord attacked."

"A mysterious character…" Lucy whispered, thinking. "I'm going to talk with Levy and see if we can figure something out." She walked towards Levy and started talking to her friend, who took out some paper and a quill to write things down."

"Didn't expect you to be back so soon," a young voice came from beside the remaining three (Natsu had gotten distracted and was now in some argument with Gajeel). There, Wendy was standing with a smile on her face.

Gray's usually blankly firm face lit up at her appearance. "Hey, Wendy. You feelin' better?"

"Mhm! Thanks for asking!" the young girl beamed, face like the sun before fading to a more serious expression. "I heard everything, and I know about what happened with that kid. Apparently, they are only a year or two older than I am."

Erza tensed. "You're only twelve, Wendy. That's very odd that some kid would be framed for some crime and was broken out and is now on the run from the entire government."

"Maybe the kid is really fucking powerful. I'm sure I heard somewhere that the kid isn't some normal child. Apparently, they're a wizard, and an insanely tough one, too. I heard some rumor that the kid beat up three grown wizards with nearly no effort. 'Course, they're just rumors, and could be exaggerated…" Gray rambled.

Happy scoffed. "Well, don't swear in front of Wendy, Gray. The innocent bean doesn't need to hear such language."

Wendy giggled, but tried to keep a straight face. "I'm not a baby, I can handle a lot of things. I've seen violence. I mean, a dragon raised me. I think I'm okay."

Erza sighed. As much as she hated to admit it, the dragon slayer was right. Wendy wasn't a baby and the girl had seen terrible things that seemed to mature her far before she was meant to be so.

Suddenly, Laxus stood up and shouted so the whole guild could hear him.

"Maybe we should all stay here tonight. We can bunker down in the basement. We've got strength in numbers then. By the way, this was Freed's idea, but he's too damn shy to talk to the whole guild at once. Confidence, Freed, you need it." Laxus let out a bark of laughter before sitting down and returning to his drink, earning a red-faced, protesting Freed.

Cana laughed again, taking a swig from the barrel of beer she held. "Never knew the great Freed had confidence issues," she yelled drunkenly. "C'mere, I'll pour you a drink."

Freed politely declined and stalked to his own corner, burying his nose in a book.

That night, the plan to all stay in the guild hall went underway. A few wizards took shifts keeping watch in the basement, while Mirajane and Makarov stayed in the hall at the bar. For several hours into the night, nothing happened.

Then, just after midnight, the double doors creaked open and closed. Soft footsteps padded across the hall towards the bar, where the Master and Mira were waiting.
