THE BREAK UP GHOST
"I was with someone." ... A single simple sentence, but those damn words will leave a painful trail forever in the hearts of Kurt and Blaine. A single sentence was capable of such destruction in a relationship that one would not be able to imagine
Kurt couldn't believe what he was hearing. The pain was immense. He could not breathe. Tears streamed unchecked from his eyes as he tried to understand what was happening. "_Then who was it?" he managed to ask in agony, already imagining Sebastian's defiant and triumphant smile ...
"_It doesn't matter who was with, Kurt." Blaine said desperately, trying to breathe at all costs to compose himself. Blaine was trying to reason with Kurt, even though he knew that what he had done was unforgivable ... terrible.
The tears wouldn't stop, and Kurt could only feel the ground disappearing beneath his feet ... the air was getting colder around him ... the darker world ... His life was destroyed in a second, and the worst, for the person he loved most ... loves ... and swore he would never hurt him ...
Blaine could only think of how stupid he'd been to destroy something that was so important to him. The reason for your living!
Even trying to justify himself to Kurt ... "_ I was lonely, and I'm really sorry!" ... deep inside he couldn't forgive himself ... he hated himself for being responsible for such pain for the love of his life.
Already uncompensated and nervous, Kurt shoots ... "_ Don't you think I've been lonely? You don't think I've had temptantions?" ... crying nonstop, in a shaky voice he goes on ... "_But I didn't act out because I knew what it mean! ... and as in a final blow, he says with poison in his words" _It mean something horrible and awful! "... and unable to face the cause of so much suffering anymore, Kurt turns and walks fast away from Blaine without looking back.
"I'm so sorry! I'm really, really sorry!" Blaine repeated to himself, still standing in the same spot watching Kurt walk away. The tears streaming down her cheeks traced icy trails through the air of New York, matching the feeling that spread through his heart. Blaine was seeing the reason for his life moving away from him, and with him, any possibility of happiness.
"What did I do?" At last Blaine thought, and with a pained sigh decided to follow Kurt to maybe try talking ... or just to make sure that he, the person Blaine loved so much, would be fine after all. Hope he thought it was silly at the moment.
Following Kurt through the neighborhood streets, keeping some distance so as not to make matters worse, Blaine realized that Rachel and Finn were no better off either. Something seemed to be wrong between the couple as well, but he had no head to worry about them at the moment. Kurt was his priority!
And that was how, from a distance, Blaine saw Kurt approach Rachel, say something to her, something that made her look around, as if looking for someone to fix her gaze with Blaine himself and then the couple of friends hugged for a few minutes, linked their arms and without warning anyone, turned and left, probably heading for the loft, leaving behind a confused Finn and a defeated Blaine.
Blaine froze in place. No reaction. Only tears continued their way down the boy's icy face. "He's gone. He's gone for good!" Blaine thought nonstop, staring in the direction his lover had left.
Not knowing how long he stood there, Blaine felt a tap on his shoulder, and heard the following words ... "Are you staying there or going back to the apartment?" Blaine shook his head, trying to focus his vision that was blurry with his tears and realized it was Finn who was asking what he would do now. He noticed that Finn had a sad, defeated face too, but Blaine didn't have the strength to ask if his friend was all right. He didn't have the strength to care about anything else, and the only thing he could say was "I don't know!" almost like a sigh, so low that Finn barely hears it.
Finn, realizing the state his brother's boyfriend was in, nodded his head and slapped Blaine on the back and said, "See you around. Take care. I'll go back to the loft and see how my brother is doing." ! " He left Blaine once again frozen in the middle of the night in New York.
After some time wandering around the city, with no right destination and not paying attention to the chill that was already taking over his body, Blaine found himself near the loft of Kurt and Rachel, and the anguish of the doubt of what he should do now took over his body. How can he, such a despicable being, Who betrayed the one he loved the most, to think of sheltering under the same roof as Kurt ... even for just a few hours ...
But he had no other option. Her body was already beginning to protest the unpleasant consequences of the freezing New York winter weather. Besides, everything needed to travel back to sad Ohio was in Kurt's room. He had no choice, he had to build courage and face Kurt one last time.
Blaine took a deep breath, and said to himself "Take a deep breath and be a man at least once in your life! Face the consequences of your actions Blaine Anderson!" and with his head bowed and defeated he went toward his destination.
Arriving at the apartment, Blaine knocked on the door fearing what was on the other side. Who would open the door, if they would open the door for him.
"_ Surely Kurt already told Rachel and Finn everything. They must already be hating me! I hate myself, why wouldn't they hate me?" Blaine thought, staring at the door not knowing exactly what to do besides wait.
Suddenly the door opens, and on the other side, a pair of tear-stained red-blue eyes stare coldly at Blaine. "_You may come in!" Kurt says, as a direct command without feeling.
Letting out a breath that Blaine hadn't even realized he'd held, Blaine lowers his defeated head and enters the loft. "_thanks!" he replies almost unflinchingly.
The loft was quiet. Totally silent and almost in total darkness, except for the illumination of the streetlight streaming through the living room window. Rachel and Finn were nowhere in sight.
Noticing Blaine's fearful look, looking around the apartment, Kurt decides to speak, already heading to his room. "_ Finn and Rachel have gone to sleep. No need to be afraid, no one will kick you out in the middle of the night." And then he closed the curtain leaving Blaine stunned standing in the middle of the room.
Growing up courage, or better, trying to collect the few remnants of self-respect, Blaine follows Kurt in the hope of being able to talk to her boyfriend to fix the situation.
However, upon entering the room, Blaine comes across Kurt with his back to him, already in pajamas, finishing getting ready for bed. "_Kurt ... I ..." he tried to start speaking but was abruptly interrupted by the boy. "No. Not now. Let's go to sleep. I'm tired! Tomorrow ... maybe ..." Kurt answered, in a voice that was both tired and hurt, turning to Blaine but not looking into his eyes and lying down into bed.
Blaine, without reaction, simply took the pajamas that were on the bed, changed and lay down, sighing and trying to stifle the crying that insisted on wanting to take care of him. Then, as always, in sync, Kurt and Blaine turned off the lamps on the nightstands, and were swallowed by the sad darkness.
