Spock's arrival - Christine

A faint buzz of the Enterprise's bridge could not mask the sound of my heart pounding in my chest with the strength of a marching band's drumline. Per Admiral Kirk's request, the crew who knew Spock awaited his arrival there together. My hands were sweaty with perspiration as I felt extreme consternation about facing the man who deserted me five years ago without a warning after a month of spine-tingling intimate relations. Dr. McCoy gave me a knowing glance as he observed my anxiety.

Wordlessly, Spock materialized on the bridge dressed in long black robes. His appearance was drastically more divergent than five year ago whereas his hair was usually cut short in a military style, now his jet black hair was long in the sides and the back. Still, Spock's bangs were neatly trimmed straight across his face like always. His expression was extraordinarily grave and gave away nothing. Moreover, Spock seemed to disregard that his friends were happy to see him. Lines creased his long face, and honestly, he looked like he had been through Hell.

"Maybe he couldn't respond due to the elimination of his feelings. Kolinar must be tough," I admitted to myself, feeling a twinge of empathy for him. My body betrayed me as I felt my heart rate speed up and my breath catch at the sight of him. However, I didn't allow myself to maintain my gaze on him for long.

While Admiral Kirk, Lt. Uhura, Chekhov, Dr. McCoy, Sulu and I expressed our happiness in seeing him, his demeanor didn't change. Kirk filled him in on the situation with Vger, and I returned to Sick Bay.

Later, Spock appeared in Sickbay after Vger scanned him. Viewing from afar, I watched the usually emotionless Vulcan laugh when he explained what happened. My shift ended in the middle of it, and I didn't dawdle when it was over.
