Lily van der woodsen was sitting in the living room of the penthouse she used to share with her husband, now ex-husband, she and william have been divorced for a little over a month now and after hours of sitting in her room watching sappy movies with her six-year-old daughter, serena, lily finally found herself being able to truly be stress-free after the mess of the divorce. her relaxation was soon interrupted when she heard her youngest son eric, who just turned four a week ago come crying into the living room.
"mommy! mommy! sewena take my swuperheroes and make em kiss her dolls! gwoss!" little eric cried out butchering some of the words but getting his point across.
lily chuckled and picked eric up bouncing him up and down making him giggle loudly. "she made them kiss huh?" lily said tickling eric making him laugh. her kids were the only thing that helped her get through her divorce, they always made her smile.
serena, who was busy making her barbie doll's kiss eric's superheroes heard her mother and brother giggling loudly and decided to go out and see what was so funny. she made her way out of the playroom and saw her mother tickling eric and started giggling too. Lily heard serena's giggles and picked her up and sat down on the couch with both her kids in her lap. the whole barbie dolls and superheroes dilemma were long forgotten.
'so serena darling I was thinking that since you start school in a couple of days, maybe we could have a playdate! you can invite all your new classmates including blair!" lily stated, she was a little hesitant about serena starting to go to elementary school and took this opportunity for her to get to know her classmate's and feel more comfortable. In all honesty, she also felt like planning something, she hadn't planned a party or event or anything really in forever and figured this was hitting two birds with one stone.
serena's eyes shimmered with delight at the prospect of having a playdate "can chuck and nate come?" she asked hopefully.
"of course darling!" lily said
"yay! I go find dress now" serena said with excitement and scampered off to find a perfect dress for the playdate.
lily sighed with relief she was glad that serena was taking the prospect of going to school very well. she glanced down at eric
"What about you eric, do you want to have a playdate?" obviously eric still had two years before elementary school and just went to kindergarten for now but she wanted to hear his opinion about it.
"yes! but I nap now" eric said
"okay daring" lily said with a chuckle and took his son to his room to put him down for his nap.

rufus was making his signature breakfast of waffles in the morning with his kids and wife. Jenny who was freshly four had developed an interest in making breakfast with her mommy and daddy, was mixing the batter spilling it everywhere. Six-year-old dan was only interested in eating not cooking and was reading his favorite storybook at the kitchen counter.
"here mommy!" little jenny said with enthusiasm as she handed her mother the bowl of mixed waffle batter
"thank you darling" alison replied with a smile and handed the bowl to her husband to put it in his prized waffle maker.
"thanks honey" rufus said to alison and put the batter in the waffle maker. for the first time in a few months now, they felt like a real family again, he and alison have been having some issues lately and are always arguing and giving each other the silent treatment. they fought about petty things and now finally things were looking good for them. as the waffles were cooking rufus turned towards dan.
"are you excited for school son?" he asked him
"eh" dan replied with no enthusiasm towards the whole school thing
rufus raised his eyebrows and looked at his wife who shrugged. He hoped dan would come around to the idea of going to proper school instead of kindergarten.
the waffle maker beeped indicating the waffles were cooked, rufus put them on the plates with whipped cream and strawberries and ushered his family to go sit at the table. He gave everyone their plates and everyone started munching on the delicious food.
"daddy, do I get to go to school like dan?" jenny asked him
"no darling not yet, you'll start school when you're dan's age" rufus said surprised at how well his four year could talk
"okay" jenny said with a sad expression
they all made small talk throughout breakfast and once everyone was done with their food rufus picked up the dishes and alison went to play with jenny and dan in their room. once rufus was done with the dishes he sighed happily as he watched his wife play with their kids. he went to the living room and sat down on the couch and started reading the local newspaper. he didn't see anything interesting but an article on page six caught his eye
he saw a picture of lily with her son in her arms and an article about them celebrating his fourth birthday. his breath got caught in his throat as he looked at how stunning lily looked, he hadn't seen her since he married alison but he did know that she married some hot-shot doctor and had two kids with him who were around the same age as his kids. he kept staring at the picture as all his memories of her and how much he loved her came flooding back to him. he had tried so hard to get over her and when he finally thought he did, something like this would happen and all his attempts would go to waste. he closed the newspaper, it was inappropriate for him to be having these thoughts when he had his family.

"it's just a small playdate with all of serena's new classmates" lily said to the party planner who was helping her set everything up over the phone
"we can get butter to cater the food and hire nanny's to help around with the kids" jessica the party planner suggested
"yeah of course! what about the guest list?" lily asked
"I have everything set up for that, we have 15 kids in total, I'll send everyone the invites by today and ask everyone to send an rsvp directly to me within two days so you don't have to worry about it" jessica replied
"thank you for your help jessica" lily said
"no problem miss van der woodsen! have a good day"
"you too" lily replied and cut the phone, satisfied that everything was set up for the playdate. she had also hired magicians and got lots of toys out in the playroom for all the kids and they could also watch a movie in serena's room if they wanted. The whole thing was still 4 days away but lily wanted to be prepared.
she still had a few hours to kill before she had to pick up serena and eric from eleanor's and wanted to do a little retail therapy so she decided to go shopping at fifth avenue. she went to her huge closet and decided to keep it simple and wore a pair of blue skinny jeans with an off-shoulder white top and black christian louboutin's. her nails were in french tips and her blonde hair was down reaching her shoulders. she paired the look with a white channel purse and headed out.
"to fifth avenue please" she said to her driver
"of course miss van der woodsen" isaac her driver replied and started the limo

rufus was at his loft doing some paperwork for his gallery, both the kids were playing with their toys and alison was at the loft too, painting.
"rufus the mail has been pilling up at the counter can you please check it?" alison asked with a little annoyance in her voice
"sure al" rufus replied not wanting to tick off his wife. He put the paperwork down and headed over to the mail and started sorting through it. there was nothing too interesting other than magazines and flyers but a white letter caught his eye. he held up the letter and was about to open it when alison spoke up
"what's that?" she asked
"I don't know I haven't opened it yet" rufus replied
he opened the letter and started reading it to alison "it's an invitation for dan to a playdate by one of his new classmate's it's from…" his heart stopped when he read who it's from
"who is it from?" alison asked
"serena and lily van der woodsen" he said slowly
alison's eyes widened and she ran over to rufus and snatched the invitation from his hands and started reading it herself. This is the first time in years rufus and alison have talked about lily, she was always and sore and sensitive topic for them. Alison knew how much he loved lily and how heartbroken he was after they broke up.
"we don't have to send dan if you don't want to" rufus said softly. one part of him didn't want to send dan because he was terrified of what he'd do or feel if he saw lily and the other part wanted to send him because it would be an excuse to see lily after all these years
"why wouldn't I want to? It's not like you still have feelings for lily right?" alison asked with a glare
"of course not!" he said nervously
"then why not? It will be good for dan to make new friends" alison said quietly. she didn't want to send dan she just wanted to see how rufus would react after he saw lily. She wanted to also rub it in lily's face that in the end, she got rufus.
"Okay uh I'll rsvp then" rufus said still a little nervous about this
