DannyMay 2021. Day Twenty-four

"Power"

Continuation to this: /s/13873321/13/ (just add the fanfiction and the dot and the net).

Of all the excuses thrown at Lancer by one Daniel Fenton, "A Dream Lord's gonna pick his stuff from my house!" was an unexpected one.

"American Gods!" Lancer exclaimed as not one, but three of his students launched themselves out of their seats and out the door after suddenly coming out of a heat-wave induced stupor. "You three," he hollered as he reached the door and saw them speed through the hallway, "come back here!" He didn't know what had gotten into them this day, but they better pray for mercy the moment they came back.

Which, he realized after five minutes of waiting, was not today.

"If I retire early, it's on them."

Team Phantom walked along the sidewalk approaching Fenton Works, enjoying the fresh breeze and the tall buildings' shadows.

"Why don't we always skip class?" Tucker asked as they stopped with a street vendor, and got two ice-cream cones and a pop-sickle.

"Not enough good excuses."

"Need to study for adult life."

"Angry parents."

"Yeah…" The three of them said at the same time, just as they reached Danny's home.

"Hold up, I'll check where my parents are and make a diversion if necessary."

"That won't be necessary."

They spun around to find the Dream Lord standing behind them with a small bag on his hip.

Instead of showing any sign of the surprise they felt at his presence, they stared at him with curiosity. "Did ya do something?" Danny asked.

"They are just taking a mid-morning nap."

The Fenton boy stared blankly at him. "Something not lethal that will only last enough for us to finish here and get back to Casper, right?"

Dream gave him an amused huff and an honest answer. "Exactly that."

"I can't believe it, there is a Dream God in your house, and we have to subject him to your bedroom!" Sam exclaimed, checking Danny's closet while Tucker went through his desk and Danny himself rummaged through his dirty laundry. "Is it this one?" She asked, holding up the thermos she found.

Dream, who assured them he would know when they found the right container with his wayward dream in it, shook his head no.

"Is it this one?"

In his defence, Danny didn't like making powerful ghosts share a thermos, they may escape when he opened the thermos to suck the other one in, or they may band together and break out. But returning the Big Ones back to the Zone, at least immediately after capturing them, was a no go, because they could easily geo out then, as shown by Cujo and freaking Boxy. So, different thermoses.

Dream shook his head once again, and the halfa's shoulders slumped.

"Is this your card?" Tucker asked, showing yet another thermos with a flourish.

"Yes, it is."

Tucker jumped in triumph and Team Phantom once again converged.

"Thank you, Duulaman." The Dream King said.

"I, um, I'm Tucker now." The former pharaoh mumbled.

"I will remember that." Dream said, and proceeded to uncap the Fenton thermos.

But where they expected a burst of light and an angry ghost that turned out to be a dream to come out, nothing happened.

"Come now, Nocturne, you know this is not your place." When nothing happened still, the Endless insisted. "You are not a ghost." And with a flick of a finger, a dense but small cloud of darkness came out of the thermos, twisting in itself and moving the stars that adorned its body, as if reflecting its master's eyes "It's time for you to return home." With a last hand gesture of the being at Danny's doorway, the ghost that had put the whole city to sleep returned to the Dreaming.

Daniel Hall needs more friends his age, tbh.

I had a lot of fun writing this!

If Team Phantom seemed a little careless around a freaking Endless, it's because here they can perceive Dream is around their age, even if they can't quite tell. It would be like having a young teacher: you know they are an authority figure, but still seem approachable.

Also, for what I saw of Daniel, he doesn't hava that much of Morpheus imposing aura, imo.
