The message from Xero's communicator ring struggled for a moment to come to life as a prominent figure could barely be seen from within the static-like storm. Finally, after a moment, the picture started to clear, revealing the unknown figure. The figure wore what looked like a long, neck covering, side button-up uniform, yet his mask caught the duo's attention. The monstrous figure wore what appeared to be a metal mask with eyes as red as blood, eyes that constantly moved like an insect's.
"Hello agents," the mysterious figure said through its synthetic voice to his broad viewing audience. "Allow me to reintroduce myself. I am Zack Madoff."
Xero turned to Zero; his face was a deathly pale color as he looked at the figure that had caused him so much grief. "no, it can't be," he mumbled to himself as the eyes he had seen days before looked at him again.
"Through a series of events," Zack continued, "I have been mangled into what you all now see. All this was due to one agent," he said as he clenched his robotic hand into a fist, imagining his opponent within it. "Our fight is not yet over," he said as he continued to stare down the communicator. "Come to your last mission and face your doom. And so you know we mean business," Zack said as he grabbed and dragged whoever held the communicator to a duo of agents wrapped in some sort of gooey substance.
Xero felt an audible gasp leave her as she recognized one of the two agents as Martain, Niki's secret boyfriend.
Zack turned the communicator to Martain. "Say hello to the crowd," he said mockingly as he struck the dazed agent on the side of the head.
Martin's head rose and he looked at him with a stare that could melt metal. "I will get out of here, and when I do-"
Martian was suddenly cut off as Zack's mechanical hand clamped around the agent's throat with a speed that could surprise a fly.
Martian struggled to breathe as he felt the light-headedness of unconsciousness come for him.
Zack removed his tight grip as soon as he was sure the agent was unconscious again. He then turned the communicator back to himself. "If any other agents show up, this man will die. So don't keep us waiting," he warned as the message suddenly went blank.
Niki brought her hands to her mouth in horror as she realized what serious trouble her beloved Martain was in. As her office communicator continued to make static sounds, Niki ran out of her seat toward a locked locker to retrieve some items and out the door.
Xero turned to her partner, his face showing a new level of conflict that she had never seen before.
"We have to go save them," Zero said before a word left Xero's mouth. She only nodded her head in agreement as they both rushed back towards the Modi-mobile.
Ms. Whitman moved angrily back and forth in her temporary office as she felt her blood boiling from the video threat she had just witnessed. "Who is this, Zack Madoff," she asked out loud to one of the many assistants that swarmed within her office.
The room, filled with assistants, security, and other crisis specialists, suddenly went silent. "He was a former agent," an unknown someone said from within the crowd.
Ms. Whitman's face turned to a new mode of concern that very few had ever seen before. She brought her hand to her head and ran it through her hair. "Ok," she finally said. "He referred to another agent that crossed him in some way. Get me a list of all the possible agents he could be referring to and the records of the possible agent's latest mission. Come on, let's move," she said as she smacked her hands together, getting the office moving again.
As Ms. Whitman was about to sit, she stopped, noticing her communicator looking back at her. She couldn't help but feel a sinking feeling in her stomach.
Zero jumped in the passenger seat as Xero took the wheel of the Modi-mobile. "Ok," Zero said as he tried to gather his thoughts. "Zack said to meet him at the location of our latest mission."
"That would be the chemical factory where we fought Roach," Xero piped in as the car road to life.
"You noticed Zack said we and us in his message," Zero asked.
"No surprise," Xero said as she took a sharp turn, "he's probably still working with Vain and Lacey."
"I was afraid you agree with me on that," Zero said as he rubbed the back of his neck uneasily.
"Look," Xero said as sternly as she could, "when we get there, I need you to stay as close to me as you can. You're not healing like you used to."
Zero turned to her, hearing the genuine concern in her voice.
"Besides," she continued, "We both need to come out of this moderately unscathed if we want a proper date night," she said, trying to lighten the mood.
Zero only gave her a warm smile as he asked, "movie or dinner?"
"Movie," Xero said as she kept her eyes intently on the road.
"At home or in a theater?" he asked as though these plans would actually happen.
"At home and in pajamas sounds pretty nice to me," she said as she turned to him with a warm smile. "I'll even let you pick the genre, but I get to pick the movie within that genre."
"I like the way you think," Zero said as he looked back at her.
The duo sat in silence as they finally came to the front gates of the chemical plant.
Zero looked out the window and saw figures running along the roof of the nearby buildings. "Those must be the other agents that left with Zack," he said to no one in particular.
"This is probably a trap," Xero said to him.
"Very likely," he agreed.
"Ok," Xero said with anticipation, "then our game plan is not to get separated and try to take them down toge-"
Xero was suddenly cut off as the communicator on the Modi-mobile came to life, revealing Ms. Whitman.
"Agents Xero and agent Zero," she said, addressing them. "I am sure you both have seen the net message. Because of this, I am calling all non-undercover agents back to HQ so we can evaluate how to de-escalate this situation."
"What message," Xero asked, hoping that playing dumb would buy them some time.
"Didn't both of you receive the message," Ms. Whitman asked as her face shifted from concern to suspicion.
"Nope," Zero quickly said. "We're just out on patrol."
"Well, that changes nothing," Ms. Whitman said sternly. "I still want you both back here at HQ. there is a madman threatening civilians downtown."
Zero turned to Xero with a face of confusion. "I thought Zack had agents as hostages," he asked out loud.
Ms. Whitman's eyes widened as Zero's hands came to his mouth as he realized what she had done. "You have seen the message," she said accusingly.
Xero quickly brought up her hands defensively, "Ms. Whitman, we can explain."
Ms. Whitman looked at Xero with a patient stare, waiting to hear whatever crazy explanation she had to offer.
"Zero and I were-"
But just as suddenly as Xero had started, her video feed had cut off.
"Ms. Whitman quickly rose from her seat as she had witnessed something from the corner of her screen before the feed had ended.
"I need to know what was Agent Xero's and Zero's last mission!" she yelled to anyone of her assistants that could hear her.
Xero brought her hands to her head as she felt the worst headache she had ever experienced. Then, as she let her arms go limp for a moment, she felt her hands hit the roof of their car. "Oh no," she said as she realized what had happened.
She turned to Zero, who too was shaking his head. "What flipped us," he asked as the sounds of footsteps could be heard approaching their vehicle.
The duo both attempted to undo their belt buckles as the unknown figure began to come closer and closer, choosing to walk along the side of the passenger side door.
Katz felt as though he were holding his breath for an hour as Mole, now connected to the bridge keypad by a few interconnective wires, gave a thumbs up to the group.
"Ok," Juno said excitedly as she stood behind Mole with his back panel open. "And here we go," she said as she connected the final wire.
Katz watched in amazement as Xero's M.O.L.E unit's eyes widened, with visible numbers running through them, his computer mind running every possible combination.
Katz then turned back to the elevator as it started its descent down to their floor. "Come on," he said to no one in particular.
"I got it," Mole said excitedly as his computer brain started to run in the bridge code. (26-05-18-15)-(22-05-09-14).
Katz watched in anticipation as the bridge suddenly started to extend to them, coming together in the middle. "Come on, let's move!" he yelled to the group as they began to sprint across the bridge.
Katz turned for a moment as he reached the plane's pull-down stairs. Then, as he turned back to the entrance to the hanger, he saw the elevator doors finally open. Out poured a squad of Vein's goons, and behind them was Rat, followed by Vein himself.
Like clockwork, the group was in their seats. Katz double-checked the fuel and gave a thumbs up to his passengers. "We're almost ready for take-off, Susan," he said as he looked to the co-pilot seat. Katz felt his jaw drop as he looked to the empty seat beside him. "She didn't," he thought to himself as he looked outside the cockpit window only to see his worse fear.
Katz quickly rose from his seat and made his way back to the exit.
"What's going on," Jay asked as he fastened his seatbelt.
"Susan is doing something dangerous," Katz said as he walked past him. "I can't leave her. If we are not back in three minutes, leave without us."
Jay looked at him, puzzled. "You can't be serious."
Katz looked at him coldly. "I have taken you away from your daughter for so long. But I also have a responsibility to return Susan to her son."
Jay's and Juno's eyes widened at this news.
Before they could ask any questions, Katz was already out of the plane. He ducked behind the identical bridge control console as he peeked out at Susan.
Susan stood definitely with her head held up, standing tall on the still connected bridge, still unnoticed by Vein or his henchmen.
Before Katz could move to snatch her, she let out a loud, echo-causing yell.
"ROBERT!"
Vein turned toward the bridge as he saw a woman he had not seen in a long time, yelling a name he had not heard in a long time. "Susan," he whispered to himself in shock.
