And so Jane began to sing her song for Maura after clearing her throat. When she began, she was all alone on the stage. But then, the members of the band came back onstage to play along with her. It felt awkward, but all the time, Jane only had eyes for the blonde.
I've seen the world
I lived my life
I thought i had seen it all
All the wonderful things there are
The sunrises and the sunsets
On the most beautiful places
But once I looked into your eyes
I knew that I had seen nothing yet
Nothings as beautiful as you my love
Nothing is as beautiful as it is with you my love
I stood on the Eiffel tower
Flew high over the see
I saw treasures like jewels and crowns
I tasted the greatest wines and food
But once I looked into your eyes
I knew that I had seen nothing yet
Nothings as beautiful as you my love
Nothing is as beautiful as it is with you my love
And now I know what crowns and jewels are made for
For people like you
I know what life is made for
For spending it with you
And I look into your eyes
And I know that I have seen nothing yet
I've tasted nothing yet
And my life is only about to start
Then the music stopped, and Jane looked up after quickly blinking away towards the band to thank them to see that Maura was gone.
The crowd was clapping and members of the band patted her shoulders in congratulations, but it didn't matter, because Maura was gone and Jane didn't know where to.

At least Jane thought that she was gone until the guests began to sing: Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! And then the pilot saw Maura make her way up the stairs to the stage with tears in her eyes. And Jane slowly let the guitar to the ground to wrap her arms around Maura.
"I'm sorry." She whispered while the crowd was still chanting. And then Maura nodded, and Jane kissed her with a grin. "I love you." She whispered when they stopped to rest their foreheads together and an awwwwww! Filled the air. Jane rolled her eyes playfully and Maura chuckled.
"Thank you for the song. It means… uhm .. Anyone ever did that for me." Maura whispered and Jane blushed slightly. "Well, I have never done this before. But you, Maur, mean a lot to me and I hope that I could make this clear by the song." they kissed again before leaving the stage to find a silent corner to talk.
"That was really great!" Dusty said in awe as Jane handed her back the guitar once back from the stage. "Maybe I'm going to compose a song for the wedding." Jane mumbled to herself as they walked off to a less crowded place – the balcony of their room.

Later that day Jane took Dusty aside. Maura was napping on the bed and the thunderstorm was raging outside. The ship was swaying a little bit which Jane didn't like. Yet she stayed brave. "I need your help." She said and Dusty's eyes brightened. "Sure. What do you need?" she asked. Jane chuckled.
"Maura can't know though." She put her index to her lips to underline the importance of keeping her plan silent. Dusty giggled. "Sure, can do that." Then Jane told the other woman her plan. It took them 45 minutes until they were done and Jane walked Dusty walk off with a list of instructions and a deep smile.
By the time the doc woke up, Jane was long lying next to her again. The thunderstorm was over, and Jane let her fingers trail over Maura's soft skin. They took advantage of the hour which was left until dinner.
Afterwards, when Maura was busy talking to Lucinda, Jane slipped out of the bar to make some calls. Dusty covered up for her. If Maura should ask, she would tell her that jane had to use the toilet. Everything worked well. After making the calls she returned to Maura who smiled happily.
Jane had to turn down requests of singing again and writing songs for various people. She agreed although to write a hymn for the group. The weekend was busy with excursions, dives and parties. By Monday everything and everybody was ready for Maura's surprise.
They were arriving at a bigger harbor and the guests left the ship for another guided tour in town. At least most of them. Some stayed to welcome Janes and Maura's family. Cabins were vacated and women bunked together to make space for them. It fascinated Jane of how helpful and caring everybody was. This community stuck together like glue like a big family. It made her smile and proud to be part of that family.
Some spent a lot of time on preparing the deck. Decoration had been manufactured during various courses on the weekend. People loved taking part in this and helping by every possible mean.
Jane was sitting on the bus, trying to hide her nervousness while they drove through the streets. Whenever she could, she checked her watch and thought step one should be done… Ma should have arrived at the ship now…. The decoration should be done by now….
All the while she and Dusty listened to Maura's google mouthing, sometimes winking at each other. The captain had been more than pleased to perform the ceremony. To Janes surprise though it was his first. She would have thought that there were more crazy people like them.
The plan was to celebrate the wedding this night. Jane took a deep breath. Tonight! She thought. But the nervousness passed quickly, and she continued to think her plan through. She would make Maura wear a nice dress, kind of playing wedding and invite her for cocktails before dinner. They would step out to the prepared deck and by then Maura would realize what this was all about. She would see her parents and hopefully be happy that Jane had invited them. Then they would have dinner and celebrate.
Their families would stay until the end of the week which left them one week of honeymoon. She had also invited Korsak who had become a mutual friend and Frankie. No one had objected to two men on board after Jane had assured everybody that they knew how to behave themselves.
R&I
They laid down for their usual afternoon nap and Jane went through the plan for one last time feeling nervous. Unable to find some rest, she sneaked out of the room to find her mother's two stories below them.
Angela opened at the second knock, her face splitting into a wide smile when seeing Jane. After some hugs – and this time Jane really needed them – they sat down onto the bed. "Thanks for coming." She said and Angela smiled. "Of course. I never thought.." Jane could see tears forming in her mother's eyes and rushed for another hug.
"Yeah. Me either to be honest." She admitted. Both chuckled. "I think I could use a drink." Angela stated and padded to the minibar. Jane laughed and asked for a gin. They clicked the bottles together and drank.
"Maura is a good girl. You are both very lucky." Angela said and Jane nodded wistfully. "Yes. I really am." She agreed and they watched Frankie walk in. "Hey big sister." He greeted her and more hugs followed. Also, one more drink. Jane almost feared to be drunk for her own wedding. And she paused again. It still sounded strange.
The family was joined by Korsak and Susi – Maura's assistant/friend. Jane kept an eye on her watch and left on time to be back before the doc awoke. Everything went smooth. Jane gave her time to wake up and took a shower. She wore the white linen suit and explained that she wanted them to look a bit fancier than usual.
Maura loved the idea – of course – and was about to choose a dress when there was a knock on their door. Jane, already fearing the worst because something always had to go wrong, offered to open the door and see who was disturbing them.
It was Dusty with a red face and breathing hard. "There is a problem." The woman spoke Jane's fear. "What is it?" she whispered and Dusty pointed to her right. Jane turned her head to see Constance holding a white wedding dress in hand. "Maura should wear this." The adoptive mother said in an insisting whisper. "It's been worn for weddings for generations. And Maura was looking forward to wearing it on her own wedding."
"Baby? Is something wrong?" Maura shouted from the inside of the room and her voice was coming closer. Panicking Jane threw the door shut and cleared her throat. Think Rizzoli! She almost yelled at herself inwardly. "No, everything's fine. Dusty wanted to know if we'll share table tonight."
Maura gave her a doubtful look. Especially when there was another knock to the door. "Okay. Just give me a sec." Jane opened the door again after holding her index into the air to point out one second. When she did so the dress was being shoved towards her face. All right she mumbled. "Give me a sec." she repeated to Constance and turned to see Maura with hands against her hips.
"Look. I uhm.." Jane lifted her hands in apology, still not knowing how to handle this. "There is someone who wants to see you." She finally said and opened the door. Suddenly the room was filled with Arthur, Constance, Angela, Frankie, Susie and Korsak. Constance standing in the front holding the wedding dress like a trophy, leaving Jane wondering when they had all arrived in front of their door when a minute ago only Dusty and Constance had been there.
Everybody yelled surprise! at once and Jane observed Maura who seemed like getting a heart attack. At least now she knows why I hate these surprise parties. Jane thought.
"Yes, right. See, I thought about the idea to get married onboard." Jane pushed her way through the crowd, not caring if some dropped to their bed. Man, this room was really tiny she thought. "So, I organized a few things." She continued when reaching Maura who looked touched. "You did that for me?" Maura asked and Jane took her hands. "Yes, baby. Because I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I never officially asked." Jane pushed Constance and the dress aside to go down on her knees. "Would you marry me?"
Jane felt how everybody in the room held their breath. "Tonight?" she added sheepishly.
Maura's smile said everything. "Of course, Jane!" Maura replied in a gentle tone and then Jane lifted to kiss her.
And so, the group parted. Jane and Angela left for Dusty's cabin to give Maura room to change under the assistance of Constance and Susie. Arthur and the rest of the boys went to have some drinks while Jane changed at Dusty's.
"And your name is really Dusty Springfield?" she heard her mother ask through the bathroom door. She was just applying make-up and had to stop to roll her eyes. "Your parents must have some sense of humor." Her mother said and Jane was grateful when hearing sympathy in her mother's voice. She heard the clicking of glass and now got scared that her mother would be drunk at the ceremony.
"Are you single?" her mother continued the usual questioning and Jane took the opportunity to peek her head out and scold her mother. But Dusty seemed fine and grinned. "Yes. Unfortunately."
"Oh, that's a shame. You are such a nice person. I'm going to help you find someone. You know how it goes. Many people met at weddings. There is big potential for tonight."
To Janes surprise Dusty didn't seem to mind and continued answering questions like about her profession, her age, her everything including allergies. Her mother really had a plan and Jane hoped for Dusty that it worked out. The woman deserved to have a good partner.
Once they were ready, they went to the deck where people were already waiting. Jane quickly texted Susie, to see how far they were. Susie wrote that they were almost done. Coming up in ten minutes the senior criminologist replied, and Jane felt her palms get wet. Frankie patted her shoulder with a grin. "Don't worry Jane. You can always in case it doesn't work."
The pilot smirked. Not what she wanted to hear right now. "Oh Frankie, leave her alone. At least she's doing something reasonable. She's marrying a doctor!" her mother interrupted, and Jane listened halfheartedly as the typical Rizzoli discussion broke out. "Remind me why I wanted to have them here for the wedding?" she asked Dusty who was mesmerized by the families' dynamics.
Dusty laughed and shrugged. "Dunno. But I'm sure it was because you somehow love them."
"Ah yeah." Jane laughed and they watched Frankie and Angela walk towards their seats in the first row. Dusty, being sort of Janes best friend already was her best man. Peter hadn't been able to get off from work on such short notice. But It was fine. He had sent her plenty of texts with advice earlier. And the onboard film team would ban this event on bits and bytes forever.
When the music – a string orchestra, also from the cruise – began to play Jane glanced down the aisle. Maura looked stunning in the white dress. And her smile… soft, happy… telling Jane everything she needed to know. This was the right thing to do. Maura was just looking forward to their together life like she did.
Suddenly the nervousness was gone, and she felt so much joy and anticipation as she watched Arthur guide her fiancé down the aisle towards her. Then the old man placed Maura's hand into hers and kissed both women on the cheek. "Good luck!" he said with a soft chuckle and turned to take his place next to Constance.
They smiled at each other shyly for a moment before facing the captain who began the ceremony. Everybody held their breath when it came to the vows. Frankie who had brought the ordered rings from Boston stepped forward to hand them to the women. Jane took her time to slid it gently over Maura's finger, studying it for a moment in awe. This was her wife now she thought happily. The captain announced that they were married and that it was time to congratulate the happy couple – Mrs. and Mrs. Rizzoli-Isles.
Jane could kiss the bride now. And it was a soft and intimate kiss which made them forget the surrounding the world – even the most beautiful sunset the world had ever seen. They rested their foreheads together for a few moments to breath each other in and Jane thought that this was the perfect wedding.
