Thorntail gazed out upon Cliffclan, which was once his home. He sighed as he remembered the smell of the medicine den, which always reeked of dry herbs. How Thorntail missed the smell of dry herbs. His former apprentice Grassflower was doing a fine job of serving the Clan in his stead. He just wished he could tell her how proud he was. Medicine cats weren't allowed to have kits, but Grassflower had been like a daughter to Thorntail. He silently cursed the bought of greencough that had done him in.

"Mourning yourself again Thorntail?" a large black tom laughed, causing the small reddish brown medicine cat to turn around.

"Ah, it's just you Ravenstar," Thorntail sighed in relief. Ravenstar had been a good friend of his in life, and had led Cliffclan well. He walked up beside Thorntail and sighed.

"What's wrong?" Thorntail asked, his voice filled with concern. Ravenstar had always been a fairly laid-back and confident tom. He was rarely worried about anything. What was there to be worried about when one was resting in a gorgeous glade in Starclan? Thorntail still hadn't gotten used to the sheer beauty of Starclan. He looked around at the lush green grass and the bright blue, cloudless sky. A babbling brook ran through the glade, running into a small pool where cats could look down upon the living, as Thorntail was doing now.

"There is a prophecy," Ravenstar informed Thorntail, "But we do not know what it means. We were given this to give to our chosen cat, and you will deliver our gift to this chosen one."

"I will?" Thorntail gasped. He was rarely trusted with anything, much less magical gifts. Ravenstar gave his a glowing white ball.

"Go to the realm of the living and touch the chosen cat with this ball, and they will be imbued with powers that will be used to combat the upcoming threat."

"What threat?" Thorntail asked. His fur bristled at the thought of harm coming to his beloved Cliffclan.

"That's the thing, we don't know," Ravenstar said, "Why do prophecies always have to be so unclear?"

Ravenstar continued to talk, but Thorntail stopped listening. He gazed at Ravenstar's sky blue eyes. They were absolutely gorgeous and Thorntail couldn't help but imagine him and Ravenstar together, the large leader intertwining his tail with Thorntail's…

"And that's everything you need to know about the chosen kit," Ravenstar nodded, before padding off. Thorntail called after him, but the large tom did not hear him. Darn his feelings for his former leader! They caused enough problems when he was alive.

Thorntail jumped through the pool that led to the mortal realm. He landed in the center of Cliffclan camp, which was a small hole surrounded by sandy cliffs. He walked over to the small, shallow cave that cave the nursery. He decided to just give a kit the gift and pray that it was the right kit. He saw a small pale ginger she-kit with white paws. She was sleeping peacefully and Thorntail's heart swelled at the adorable sight. He had always loved kits. He gently held the shining ball of light he had been given up to the kit and the ball jumped into her. She glowed for a few seconds before the light faded. The she-kit sneezed and Thorntail lowered his mouth to her ear. "Good luck, little one," he whispered. He left the nursery and walked over to the medicine den. It was almost exactly the same as he remembered, just more organized. He saw Grassflower sleeping in a nest covered in daisies. She had always loved the smell of flowers. He laid down in an old nest that had once been his own. Grassflower hadn't had the heart to dispose of his old nest yet. His heart clenched at the sight of his former apprentice. "Please be okay Grassflower, I know you'll help the Clan through this threat."

Welcome to Power in the Wrong Hands! So, this story will revolve around Heatherkit, but I plan on adding other POVs as well. One kit will be chosen as the actual "chosen one" that Thorntail was supposed to visit and whoever that is will definitely be a main character. It will be one of the kits not in Cliffclan. I recommend you read "Fallen Snow" before reading this, as it is something of a prequel one-shot. So here are the Clans:

Cliffclan- Cliffclan lies to the south of the three clans. Their territory consists of a meadow with a large rock outcrop in the center. The middle of the rocky outcrop is a hole with several caves. This is where Cliffclan makes its home. Cliffclanners are generally laid back and peaceful. They like to avoid confrontation and value levelheadedness and practicality.

Runningclan- Runningclan lies forest that has several streams and rivers flowing through it. They are excellent swimmers and fishers, as well as good climbed. They pride themselves on their battle skills as they are able to ambush cats from the water or the forest. They are generally prideful and cunning, and value strength, stealth, and intelligence.

Stoneclan- They live in a thick forest filled with old ruins. They make their home in these ruins and are the most mysterious of the three clans. Stoneclanners are strong-willed and stubborn. They never back down or give in to anything, which often causes conflict between the clans. They value honor and skill in battle.
