AN: Ok, here is a story that hopefully will be short. Possibly even a continuation.
I will also be redoing Chase's Bounty, so if anyone has any other ideas for that story please share. Just as a reminder it is a Chase x Everest and Marshall x Skye Story.
A Change of Heart
Chapter 1
Crushed
It was a beautiful summer morning in Adventure Bay. The sun was rising and its rays of sunshine were shining on a particular building. This building is called the Lookout. The Lookout is where a famous team of rescue pups/dogs called the PAW Patrol live. When not on a mission the pups had a tendency of playing many games such as tag or Pup Pup Boogie. But things have changed.
Some may say that the pups live in luxury, others would argue that they can only do so much. While the rest are grateful for the pups' existence as well as their 15-year-old leader named Ryder.
At the same time, all the pups have matured over the years. Rubble sadly just hit puberty and some would say they like the new change. One of those people being Danny X and other nut cases. Rubble has become the classic rouge teenager that all parents loathe. The other pups are questioning what is going on in his head but support him either way but they have regretted supporting him. Chase said, "As long as you are a good dog and not do anything stupid. I'm fine with it." If he didn't say that and said what he meant the Rubble would have lost it which at the time the pups wouldn't care but due to recent events most of them wish doom on the English Bulldog.
Anyway, Zuma and Tracker being in the middle of puberty, have become closer friends. The lucky guys also got girls of their own, well sort of. Zuma's lisp has all but faded away overnight and his cool and calm nature remains with him. For Tracker, he has moved to the Lookout with the rest of the pups. He was skeptical at first but Carlos visits every month and will ask for Tracker when he needs extra help in the jungle. For them, the only thing that has changed is their maturity and the older-looking appearance that makes them a magnet for the female pups of Adventure Bay. With a big brother like Chase, they are proper and respectful when needed and carefree when having fun.
Rocky and Marshall are the same stories altogether. They both have the same crush on Everest only Marshall's is more noticeable while Rocky's is a bit more subtle. The only problem is that Everest has eyes on a very different dog. As for other girls looking at them. For appearance, Rocky's fur has become much more dark and fluffy if not trimmed. Marshall's fur hasn't changed much but he has more spots than when he was younger. Their maturity is on par with Chase's standards though Marshall is still the clown of the team and Rocky's fear of water has all but gone.
For Skye and Everest, they are a bit overwhelmed by all the males on the team and the others who just wander around Adventure Bay except for a few. Every time the two females are out walking around Adventure Bay other male dogs like to come up to them and tell them that they are so pretty and they are so mature. Some have even asked them out to which they give them the same answer every time, "No thanks." Skye's ears have grown a bit more and are big and fluffy. Her posture is so fashion-like and she is very into France and Italy fashion design. Her new dream is to travel to France and Italy one day. For Everest, she has gotten much bigger, and like Chase, is tall and mature. Her fur has become a lavender and white coat which is the reason why Marshall, Rocky, and other males in the town like her so much. Because of her beauty but unlike most females who only care about their beauty *cough* Skye *cough* Everest does not care to get down and dirty on missions or at least tries to. It is hard sometimes for her because of her diagnosed PTSD from a wolf attack.
Now Chase, the oldest and the one all the pups and dogs not only on the PAW Patrol but in the entire town know and look up to. His maturity sticks out the most, he is always polite and caring to everyone he meets. Only two weaknesses this bold German Shepherd has. One, his allergy to cats and birds has not only gone haywire but he has become deathly allergic to the point he can only see Hally, Katie's cat, from a distance and always carries an EpiPen wherever he goes just in case. The second reason is not really of weakness, just sometimes it is hard to understand him due to his German accent. Rubble made fun of his accent which he then quickly learned not to mess with Chase and that his accent makes him sound like he will rip anyone to shreds. Add that to a battle scar on his right eye from a wolf attack, then it is freakin scary. A lot of the pups think it is cute and charming while others just find it weird how he now speaks like that but not when he was younger. Two words, He's German. What else can he do about it? Chase has only gotten bigger and just by his presents makes everyone feel safer and criminals scared to death. His caramel and brown fur make others jealous and the few who have touched it can say that he feels as soft as silk. He takes a bath daily.
Recently Skye has lost her crush on Chase and has moved on to a different pup. That lucky pup being Marshall even though he doesn't know about it and is too much in love with Everest who by the way has no interest in him or Rocky whatsoever. She has taken interest in Chase. Why? Well, she fell in love with him because he saved her life not too long ago. She also blames herself daily that it was her fault why he got his scar.
Flashback
It was a cold winter afternoon just after a snow storm. Fresh snow covered Jake's Mountain and people were happily skiing in the cloudy weather. At the time, Everest still lived with Jake at his cabin and helps him with simple rescues on the mountain. Only this day would be different, very different indeed.
Everest would be grooming one of the ski runs at the bottom with her snow kat. That is until she hears a call for help.
"HELP!" said the unknown voice.
Everest turned her kat off to listen closely. Her ears up, trying to detect where the sound is coming from.
"HELP!" said the voice again but it didn't sound like panic. Like, someone just saying help to say help.
Everest taps her pup-tag with her paw to contact Jake, "Jake, it's Everest."
"Go ahead, Everest. What's up?" Jake asked on the other end.
"Someone is calling for help. I probably could use some assistance," Everest stated as she jumped out of her snow kat.
"Alright, what run are you on?" Jake asked as he could be heard getting his coat on.
"Black Diamond, Gold Mine Run," Everest confirmed.
Jake paused on the other end. He forgot to tell Everest that someone had spotted some wild animals there. Either coyotes or wolves. In this case both are bad for a single dog like Everest.
"Jake, did you get that?" Everest asked.
"Everest, get out of there. NOW!" Jake yelled into his phone.
"What? Why?" Everest tried to ask but it was too late. In seconds she was surrounded by a pack of wolves, "Jake! Wolves!"
"I'll call the rest of the PAW Patrol. Just stay alive," Jake then ended the call to call Ryder, "Ryder."
"Hey, Jake, what's up?" Ryder asked on the other side.
"Ryder, get here now! Everest is being attacked by wolves!" Jake hollered. The only reason why Everest survived that day was that Ryder had his pup-pad on speaker and Chase heard it. Being the big brother he is to all the pups he felt as if it is his duty to protect every pup.
Before Ryder could say anything else, Chase was already in his new undercover police Ford F-150 Raptor and drove off code-3 to Jake's Mountain. Ryder saw this and said to Jake, "Chase is on his way at this time. Marshall and I will follow suit to make sure she is all right."
"Thank you, Ryder," Jake said as he went outside to wait for Chase.
Ryder then contacted Marshall, "Marshall, get your EMT gear and your EMS truck and quickly. Meet me at the driveway."
"Uh, okay Ryder," the dally said obeying his owner.
XXX
Back at Jake's Mountain, somehow and someway Chase got there and pulled up right next to Jake. "Where?" is all he stated.
"She is on Gold Mine Run," Jake replied as he got into the passenger side.
"Okay, grab my shotgun and load it," Chase ordered as he took back off to find Everest as fast as he could without losing control of his truck in the snow. Good thing he put chains on after the storm.
Jake did as he was ordered and loaded Chase's UTS-15 shotgun with buck-shot. Chase turned on the run and then realized why it was a black diamond, "We will have to go on foot from here. I can't risk the truck," Chase said as he got out of the truck and started to run down the hill. With Jake right behind him shotgun in hand.
Everest then came into view of Chase as he crested over another mogul. He could see that she had some gashes and she was running as fast as she could. That is when Chase realized she was limping and running up a steep hill with moguls as more obstacles.
"Jake cover me," Chase yelled.
"Will do," Jake responded.
Chase then slid closer to Everest. Once he was close enough he started to speak to her in a very calm light German-accented voice, "Hey, Everest. It's okay."
Everest went to try and fight Chase off thinking he was another wolf. Chase stopped her before she could do anything, "Hey now. It's okay. It's Chase. I'm going to get you out of here."
In a very exhausted and tired voice, Everest cried, "Chase, help me. They're after me."
Chase hugged her to let her know she is now not alone and to give her comfort. All of a sudden out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a wolf about to pounce. Chase let go of Everest and turned to face the wild animal. Chase growled and showed he was not afraid by showing his razor-sharp white teeth at the wolf who then did the same.
"Jake, get Everest out of here. Get her to the tru-OW! Grrr." Chase was cut short with the wolf clawing at his right eye drawing blood from the Shepherd. Everest yelped as she saw her hero get attacked. Right before Chase could retaliate the wolf attacked again and bit him on the left shoulder. The wolf sank its fangs into the flesh of the German Shepherd but before any more damage could be done, Chase turned the tables by laying on his back, punching the wolf in the gut with his back legs, and clawing the wolf's chest with his own claws. This attack sent the wolf flying off him and into a snowbank. The wolf ran off with blood in its fur and Chase tried to make his way back to his truck.
Somehow Everest got out of Jake's hold and limped to Chase who was slowly making his way up. But then for Everest, she collapsed from exhaustion and blood loss. She went unconscious and to her, everything went dark. The last thing that she heard was Marshall's EMT truck coming close.
End Flashback
To this day when Everest gets alone with Chase she thanks him profusely and sometimes cries over it to which he always responds, "Hey, that is what a big brother is for." Everest's crush for Chase started that day.
When Marshall and Ryder arrived on scene Chase was carrying Everest up the hill even though he had his own injuries. Marshall took it as Chase just saved her life and that now she must love him. Though he was correct he built such a grudge at that moment for a second he didn't want to treat Chase's wounds. This was quickly put behind him realizing that Chase was his best friend and that he can't force any female to love him, but he now had a little competition on who will get who.
In all, Everest made a full recovery although she now suffers PTSD from that encounter. The only good thing is that she is surrounded by friends and family to help her. Her scraps and gashes have all but healed to be unnoticed. For Chase, however, his scar on his right eye is a permeate scar that will be there for the rest of his life. Due to it being so close to his eye, Marshall was afraid that if he messed up in the stitching then he would be responsible for blinding his friend in the right eye. So therefore it was never stitched and only bandaged. Now due to the scar, his fur will never grow back making it visible for everyone to see. For his shoulder, it was much easier and it has healed well over time.
Chase wears his 'battle scar' with no shame but with pride. He does because he was protecting one of his family members and because of his sacrifice, Everest is still alive. Those who make fun of him for his scar, are dealt with what the PAW Patrol calls, "The German Tirade." During which Chase insults the canine or human with every little thing off the top of his head. ALL IN GERMAN! So when someone is on the receiving end they are met with a pissed German Shepherd yelling obscenities at them, in a totally different language, and has a scar on his right eye that will make you quiver in fear when he is done.
Anyway, back to the story. The pups would be getting up from the new rooms that Ryder built for them in the Lookout's basement. All would emerge from their rightful rooms except two. These two dogs were not even in their rooms but in the new laboratory of the Lookout. Chase and Rocky have been up all night making something that would be illegal if Chase didn't get the permits. Both of them have been experimenting with plasma and laser technology.
It sounds crazy for the ordinary person or pup but to be fair they have been working on it together for two years. They have only made three ballistic firearms one being called the Coda 50 cal. six-shot hand cannon, the Scalpel ballistic sniper rifle which has two barrels and can shoot 7.62 ammunition, and the Ravager 212-Twin barrel shotgun which all three have been added to Chase's arsenal. For the plasma and laser technology, well, let's just say that is what happened last night.
Marshall would come into the lab and see Chase and Rocky passed out on their separate desks. On the table that is in between them there would be two weapons One that looks very similar to a P90 and another that could be what Marshall thought was an AR-15 or some hybrid rifle between an AK-47 and AR-15. Both weapons would be midnight black with dark red accents on all the soft material and lighter metals they have from the butt-pad to the outer barrel parts and foregrips.
Marshall brushed it off and went to wake his friends. Chase had his head and front paws on his desk and sleeping "Why do you two work yourselves to sleep?" Marshall asked himself. He then noticed a cylinder next to Chase's head. Marshall was curious about what it was and looked up. Then he saw a rack of the same cylinders all stacked. He then also noticed long batteries that looked sort of like a magazine for a gun but instead of rounds with bullets, it had a plug-in port. All of them seemed to have been taken out of their charging ports which Marshall saw next to the mysterious weapons.
Keeping all this in mind he went to wake up Chase, "Chase," he said with his normal voice, "time to wake up."
Chase moaned something in German to which Marshall didn't understand but then Chase got up off his desk with groggy eyes. After he yawned and rubbed his eyes to wake up. He looked to Marshall and smiled, "Well, good morning Marshall."
"Why do you guys do this to yourselves?" Marshall asked.
Rocky then got up and answered Marshall's question, "Well, because we just invented the world's first laser SMG and plasma rifle." Rocky then hopped down from his chair that he was sitting on.
"You guys made a stupid accurate doubled barrel sniper rifle, a futuristic 50 caliber pistol, a duel barreled shotgun that can fire each barrel one at a time or both at the same time, and now a laser SMG and plasma rifle?" Marshall was rolling his eyes, "When are you guys going to be done?"
Chase jumped off his chair and shook his fur then responded, "Soon. We made the weapon prototypes, we just need to give them a final test and see if it was worth it."
Rocky then continued, "If successful we will go public and tell the world of our accomplishment."
"Will you sell them?" Marshall asked.
"Goodness no. The whole reason why we started this project two years ago is so Chase can have an unfair advantage against criminals. The last thing they will see is a laser bolt or plasma burning them from the inside," Rocky explained, "If we were to sell them who knows what would happen if in the wrong hands."
"I can then guess what the batteries are for," Marshall said while looking at the batteries.
"The long batteries are for the Custodian LSMG, while the cylinders you see are filled with plasma for the Karna Plasma Rifle," Chase explained as he picked up a cylinder, "We made at least twenty-five batteries for the Custodian and thirty-eight cylinders for the Karna."
"You've already named them?" Marshall asked, surprised, "And LSMG?"
"Why not? Plus, those are some cool names. I think for once Rubble will like our names for our new weapons," Rocky said while looking at Chase, "and also the LSMG is just, Laser Submachine Gun."
"We've told Rubble about them already," Chase rolled his eyes, "He didn't have any interest at all. Watch him get interested once we tell him that they are laser and plasma weapons. He'll think he is in Halo. That is only if he shapes up."
"So... what's next?" Marshall asked to keep the smart pups talking.
"Well, Chase?" Rocky questioned, "What is next?"
"Hmm," Chase thought for a moment, "I was thinking we should make some armor sets but that is for another time. Let's enjoy life after two years of testing and working."
"Now we just need to produce a couple of each weapon," Rocky proposed.
"Of the new ones after the final test. We already have two non-prototypes of the ballistic weapons. One set in my gun safe in my room and the other set in your gun safe in your room. The prototypes are here locked on the gun rack collecting dust," Chase reminded the mix breed, "Let's just stay with it and just make two. One for both of us."
"Sounds right to me," Rocky agreed, then his stomach growled.
"Someone sounds hungry," Marshall teased, "Ryder is surviving breakfast in the kitchen if you want to join us."
Chase and Rocky didn't say a thing and rushed to the elevator. Marshall hurried after them making sure not to miss the elevator. When the three pups got to the main floor of the Lookout, the elevator opened and they were greeted by the rest of the team, or at least most of the team.
"Hey you three," Skye said walking over.
"Hey, did we miss breakfast?" Rocky asked.
"Nope. Dude, it's the 4th of July remember. Ryder promised to get us something special from Mr. Porter's," Zuma reassured the mix breed.
"Oh, even better," Chase was super pleased. Not just because it was America's big day but also what a great day to announce a new weapon made in American and not some knock off from China. Being from Germany some would think that Chase would care less about the 4th of July, but instead, he celebrates it as he has always lived in the United States.
Marshall then piped up, "Where's Rubble?"
All the pups rolled their eyes in annoyance, "He's off being the teen he is. He has kicked us off the TV again because 'He must play more Halo,'" Everest said in annoyance and a bit of fear in her voice.
Chase sensed her fear and uneasiness, "What happened?" he said in a calm tone. When he was calm his German accent sounded so soothing. All the pups' tension left them when he spoke.
Skye spoke for Everest, "Well, don't hurt him but he exploded at Everest and I when we wanted to watch a documentary about the Revolutionary War. It was like he hated us or something."
"Yeah German (Zuma's nickname for Chase) he completely exploded at Skye and Everest like they were the aliens from his game," Zuma explained.
"Uh oh," Marshall whispered to Rocky. Rocky nodded knowing full well what Chase is going to do to Rubble regardless.
"What did he do?" Chase said with a little bit of anger in his voice.
"He just… just…" Everest stuttered. Chase and the rest of the pups know that when Everest stutters she is having a panic attack from her PTSD.
"Shh, I'll talk," Skye coed to her friend, "He said some things that I do not want to repeat and he had no filter. Let's just say the people he plays with are toxic and teach him horrible words."
Chase only nodded and turned to the living room. All the pups waited in the kitchen for the "German Tirade" to begin.
Chase has yelled at Rubble way more after the wolf attack that he and Everest survived. The whole reason why he and Rocky started their project was because of the wolf attack and that was two years ago. Nevertheless, the reason being is that the English Bulldog likes to trigger Everest's PTSD sometimes because he says it's fun to watch her break down and makes fun of her. This made all the pups' blood boil every time he did it. Even when she is alone trying to mind her own business and write a story or two which she publishes sometimes, Rubble ruins it and one time Everest almost committed suicide because of it. That day Rubble had some broken bones. When Chase is not around to teach Rubble a lesson, the other pups confront him but back off as soon as he starts to curse at them. Rubble believes he's the alpha and doesn't care in the world. He has become more selfish and even straight-up refuses to go on missions and he gets away with it too due to Ryder not wanting to be cursed at. Chase, however, makes him quiver in fear. His scar, his voice, everything makes Rubble shiver at the thought. Rubble knows that Chase is not afraid of him and will do anything to him just to make a point to him. Most of the time it works and Rubble sulks in his room for a month or two but then is right back at it. The only ones who know what Chase does are the pups and Ryder. Though Ryder doesn't like it, the other pups love it when the selfish teen pup gets what he deserves.
Chase himself doesn't want to beat and break Rubble due to him being family but when he has gone too far Chase becomes pissed. Every time he confronts Rubble he yells to stop what he is doing and if he is ignored, the headphones are ripped off and the remote knocked out of Rubble's paws. After that, Rubble would yell obscenities at him thinking it was another pup but when he finds out it was Chase who wanted his attention Rubble would go white. Chase then has the excuse to yell back and even though it is sometimes in German and very hurtful German insults. On the rare occasion that Rubble fights back, Chase would go straight to his training and takes down Rubble. If he struggles Chase makes him unconscious and locks him in his room. If not, and Rubble scratches Chase, he would break Rubble's leg. Chase has only done it once and isn't afraid to do it again.
Anyway, as Chase was making his way to where Rubble was Rocky, Marshall, and Zuma watched from the kitchen doorway while Tracker and Skye calmed Everest down.
Then the first thing they hear is, "Hey, Kotzbrocken! Für wen hältst du dich, verdammt? (Hey, lump of puke! Who the fuck do you think you are?)" Chase yelled.
Immediately, knowing who it was, Rubble ripped off his headphones and dropped his Xbox 360 remote controller. He then stared at Chase with fear in his eyes. Every pup knew that line well and Chase has translated it for them time and time again.
"Why did you insult Everest and make fun of her PTSD!? AGAIN!" Chase interrogated while yelling. Rubble looked like he had been shot and just stared at Chase's scar already trembling.
"Why do you not learn that consequences will come to you like they always do!?" Chase yelled angrily.
"..." Rubble was still shocked.
"*Sigh* GO TO YOUR ROOM NOW! I don't want to see you until lunch, then you can explain," Chase ordered. Rubble then ran right past Chase, down the elevator, and into his room. "Was für ein Arschloch Hurensohn," Chase scoffed.
He then went back to the pups in the kitchen, "The TV is open now. Let's all watch "The Patriot" shall we," Chase said like he didn't just yell at Rubble. The pups all nod and head to the large TV. Chase took Rubble's headset and remote off the ground and put them on the shelf. He got the TV remote and changed the input to Roku and then Netflix. He then turned on the surround sound system and picked "The Patriot" to watch. Tracker and Zuma got on one of the large bean bags while Rocky and Marshall laid on the floor in front of the TV. Skye joined right next to Marshall who then got a little uncomfortable but stayed. Chase helped Everest to rest on another large bean bag. Marshall saw this and for a long time wanted to confront Chase about it.
"Uh, Chase can I talk to you?" Marshall said as he got back up.
"Sure," The German Shepherd said as he got off the bean bag.
The two grown dogs walked over to the other side of the living room to talk somewhat privately.
"Chase, I first off, want to say you and I are best of friends," Marshall nervously spoke.
"Yes, but what is bothering you?" Chase asked, tilting his head in confusion.
"I want you to know that-" Chase cut him off already knowing what he was going to say.
"That you like Everest to an extent but-" he left off for Marshall to continue.
"But she doesn't seem to take interest in me," Marshall started to tear up a bit with his heartbroken, "Ever since that day when she was attacked by wolves she has laid her eyes on you. Have you noticed?"
"Yes, I have but I respect that you like her," Chase said, putting a paw on Marshall's shoulder.
"I was too late. I asked her last night and she respectfully said that she loves you and not me. You have taught me to move on if things take a dip, but how do you move on with your heart in a million pieces?" Marshall whimpered.
Chase was shocked, not that Everest loves him, he knew that, but the way that she rejected Marshall and confessed to being in love with someone else. Chase thought for a moment to give Marshall a good answer. The last thing he wanted was to see his friend in heartbreak. Then he said the only thing that came to his mind, "Marshall, I personally don't know the answer to your question, but to help you heal, "Chase smirked, "Someone else has taken interest in you and you already know who it is."
"Who? Skye?" Marshall whipped his tears a bit.
"Mhm. She and I have lost interest in one another. She asked me for advice on how to confess to you and I said, 'Wait for him to notice and take an interest.' Knowing you, you need time, now's the time for you to move on to someone who for a while now has liked you. I won't go into detail but she doesn't shut up about you to the rest of us when you are not around," Chase explained calmly with his German accent making Marshall feel better.
"Realy?" he stifled.
"Sit next to her. I'm sure she would love it. Just- clean yourself up a bit," Chase chuckled the last bit which made Marshall cheer up and giggle as well.
"Thanks, Chase," Marshall thanked.
"Hey, you're okay. No shame in asking," Chase smiled.
"So..," Marshall started changing the subject, "What are you going to do with Rubble?"
Chase let out a huge sigh, "*Sigh* At this point I will ground him myself. If Ryder is too afraid of doing it then I will. It has gone on for far too long."
"What are you going to ground him from?" Marshall questioned.
"Hmm, how about everything. From his tablet, which he is probably on right now, to the Xbox. It's not his Xbox, Ryder and I bought it for the whole team. Buying Halo and Call of Duty for him was the dumbest idea ever. It changed him for the worst. I'll also have Ryder cancel his Xbox 360 Live account. He doesn't need to talk to those toxic people he calls friends anymore," Chase exclaimed, "Like, what else are we supposed to do?"
"I don't know," Marshall admitted, "But you gave him quite the scare earlier. Your scar is so intimidating."
"He needs to stop if you're telling me and yes I know, I've scared others besides him," Chase finished. They then joined back with the pups to the scene where Thomas is killed by the Red Coats.
Marshall then took Chase's advice and laid down right next to Skye and motioned her to come closer. She happily did and leaned on his side. His feeling of heartbreak was all but gone and replaced with the feeling of love. Chase was right.
Chase hopped back onto the bean bag with Everest who was watching the movie intently even though a kid was just shot dead. He got closer to her and she felt his presents and looked at him and smiled.
"Did you tell him?" she asked.
"He told me," Chase confirmed.
"Oh. How did he take it?"
"How about you look for yourself."Everest looked to Marshall and saw Skye snuggling up next to him. She then turned back to Chase who laid back down next to her. She then scooted closer to him and like what Skye did to Marshall leaned on his side. Chase's fur was so soft Everest just stayed like that.
After a few minutes, Ryder arrived with breakfast. It was only nine-thirty in the morning and already so much has happened.
AN: I can still use some ideas on how this story will come. Yes, I know this chapter is long and this is what I plan for this story's chapters to be long.
