No.
We were in the Crystal Catacombs underneath Ba Sing Se, fighting Azula, Zuko and the Dai Li. Sokka and Toph were above ground and presumably trying to find a way to help us. Aang and I had to work together to fight Azula and Zuko, but then the Dai Li appeared. There were just too many agents to fight and that was when I spotted Aang whisper something under his breath (I didn't hear it) and create a crystal tent. Next thing I knew, there was a bright light emitting from his tent, and I saw Aang rise from it. I could see that he was in the avatar state and he now had control of it. I was proud of him and I watched him with a proud look on my face, as if to let him know. Then, I could only watch in pure pain and terror as Azula shot Aang with lightning. I watched as his lifeless body fell towards before. I didn't even think, I just started using my waterbending to rush myself over to him, hoping I can reach Aang in time to catch him. I didn't even move my eyes to see the agents I washed over, I kept my eyes on Aang, fighting tears that were forming in my eyes. Then I did it, I caught him. We sunk to the floor, I was holding him, as though he was the last thing in the world. Which was kind of accurate to me at that time. All I could focus on has Aang, whether or not he was okay, whether or not he was dead. I couldn't even hold them back, tears started streaming down my face. I closed my eyes, hoping I could try to keep them at bay a little longer.
"You've got to get out of here! I'll hold them off as long as I can!"
I looked up to see Iroh facing Azula and Zuko, standing in a firebending stance. I knew I had to get us to safety, to get Aang to safety. I waterbended us out of the cave, keeping a hold of Aang.
When we got out, I looked towards the sky and saw Appa headed towards us, with Sokka at the reigns. He landed Appa, got off and took one look at me and the boy I was clutching onto. I could see the worry etched onto his face as he helped me place Aang's body on Appa's head. We flew off to find somewhere safe. Sokka climbed into the saddle and told Toph about Aang's current state. I wasn't even watching – I didn't see Toph's reaction. I was just staring at Aang's defunct body, trying to figure out a way to save him. And then it hit me.
I took the vial from around my neck and bent the water out, spinning it in my hand until it glowed. Then I pulled Aang across my legs and placed the water over his scar on his back. After some time (I couldn't tell how long. It could've been hours or mere seconds), I stopped bending the water. I hugged Aang's body, not even concerned about the tears flowing freely down my cheeks. Then I saw Aang's arrows glow, something was happening. I heard him grunt. I placed Aang back on Appa's head and observed him. Then I saw something that made my heart stop.
His eyes opened.
He smiled.
He was alive.
I hugged him again, relief washing over my body. He wasn't dead.
We flew for the rest of the night without stopping. We headed in the direction of Chameleon Bay, where Dad was. The sun was nearly up when we found the Southern Water Tribe fleet. Dad was on the beach when we landed. I could hear him running up to us. I turned my head, bringing my eyes to meet his. I could see his face turn from curiosity to shock as his eyes moved from mine to Aang. He must've realised something was wrong by the redness of my eyes and saw what was wrong when he noticed Aang.
Dad went to get more tribesmen to help bring Aang down and take him into the medical tent. I followed them; arms crossed against my chest. I quickly glanced over at Dad and Sokka, both had worry, concern and fear marked on their faces. They were both watching me, worried that at any more I could break at any moment.
I walked into the tent with the tribesmen who were carrying Aang. I watched as they lay him on a spare bed in the corner. I watched as the men left the tent. I slowly made my way over to Aang, bending the water out of my waterskin with one hand and using the other hand to turn his body over. I started to heal his scar, tears silently creeping their way out of my eyes and down my face. I kept healing him whilst outside Dad asked Sokka what happened.
"What happened in Ba Sing Se? Why does Aang look like he's on Deaths' doorstep? Why does Katara look like she could break at the slightest touch?"
"I don't know what exactly happened, but to my understanding from what Katara told us, she and Aang were fighting against Azula and Zuko in the catacombs underneath the city. But the Dai Li joined in. There were too many for the two to handle so Aang decided to use the avatar state. When he came out of this crystal tent he made, Azula shot him with lighting. Katara caught him just before he hit the ground. She managed to escape thanks to Zuko's uncle. That's when we met up with them. I helped Katara carry Aang to Appa. Whilst we were flying here, Katara used spirit water from the Northern Water Tribe and healed him. I wouldn't be surprised if she is healing him right now. Then we arrived here, and you know the rest," Sokka answered.
Just then, Earth King Keui approached the two.
"I was informed that you are in charge, Chief Hakoda," he said.
"Yes, I am. Do you require anything?" Hakoda asked.
"I have decided to leave. Now that I realise how little of the world I have seen, I want to discover it. I will depart in tomorrow morning and will be accompanied by Bosco. I want to wish you luck with the war and to wish the Avatar a smooth recovery," responded Keui.
"Thank you for your wishes. Good luck with your endeavour," Hakoda said.
Keui gave a subtle nod in thanks and walked over to Bosco and started to pet him and talk about their upcoming travels. Dad left Sokka and came into the same tent I was in. He walked over to me and Aang and sat on the empty bed next to us.
"Are you alright, Katara?"
"I will be."
"Come on, you need something to eat," Dad told me.
"I'm fine. Aang needs me. I can get food later," I responded with.
"He will be fine for half an hour. The stronger you are, the better you can heal him," Dad offered.
"I'm fine. I need to focus on healing Aang. The world needs him now more than ever now that the Earth Kingdom has fallen." 'I need him too' I thought.
"Okay then, I give up. Just come get something to eat when you're hungry, I guess. And Katara? I just want to let you know that if you need it, you can talk to me. About anything. Okay?"
"Okay."
And with that he left, leaving just me and Aang in the tent (and some other sleeping injured tribesmen). I stopped healing Aang and bent the water into a nearby bowl. I then knelt onto the floor, my arms hugging legs into my chest, my forehead resting against my arms, and let it out. My cheeks became soaked in tears. I'm not sure if anyone outside the tent heard me, but if they did then they didn't bother me.
I must've drifted off at some point whilst I was crying, because I woke up in a bed mid-afternoon. I turned over and found out that whoever put me in bed put me in the bed next to Aang. 'They must've thought I would've wanted to be near Aang. They're not wrong' I thought. I sat up and bent the same water I used to heal Aang to wash my face to wash my face of any remaining tears and any tear tracks along my cheeks.
I slowly dragged myself out of bed and walked over to Aang. I noticed that someone turned him back over. 'Over onto his scar' I thought. I turned Aang back over onto his stomach to inspect his scar. It looked the same as this morning. No improvement. No healing.
I turned Aang onto his scar and decided to let him sleep for a bit. I went over to the tent flap and reluctantly opened it. I had to cover my eyes a bit to protect my eyes. I looked over the men and spotted Dad, Sokka, Toph, Bato and Keui all sat in a circle, having a conversation. I walked over to them, sitting down in between Sokka and Toph. Sokka turned his face at me and gave me a small smile. He grabbed a bowl and poured some stewed sea prunes into it. He gave me the bowl. I took it from his hands and gave him a quick, small smile. I looked at the contents of the bowl and didn't pay much attention to the conversation taking place all around me. I only had few spoonsful of stewed sea prunes. After about ten minutes, I decided that I couldn't eat anymore, so I stood up, placed my bowl down and walked away. I could feel all their eyes watching me as I walked away from them and towards the medical tent. I wasn't bothered. Someone else had my attention. Someone else more important.
I opened the flap to see a few less men in beds. 'They must have left whilst I was eating. Means more privacy with Aang' I thought. I walked over to Aang's bed and got some water. I turned him over onto his stomach and started healing his scar again. Only this time, if someone walked in to check on us (me), I didn't pay them any attention. I gave Aang my sole focus.
About an hour later, I could hear men shouting. I wasn't listening to what they were saying, but when it didn't subside, I started paying attention – not a lot, but enough that if there was a need to, then I could readily protect Aang. I momentarily stopped healing Aang whilst I went to get another bowl to put next to me so that if I needed to, then I could use it to defend us. I set the bowl down on the floor next to me and got back to healing Aang. I could hear men shouting things at first. Things like "Protect the encampment!" and "Attack the ship!". But after a few hours, I could hear things like "Get that tent packed up!" and "Get ready for transportation!". No-one came into the tent we're in, so I figured some of the fleet were going on patrol for any more unfriendly ships. However, after a few minutes, Dad came into tent and talked to the men attending to the injured, but I couldn't hear them. Then he approached me.
"Katara, we have captured a ship, so you need to get yourself and Aang ready to be moved."
