Princess Peach

The princess was lying peacefully in bed when she was awoken by a knock at her door. She groggily crawled out of bed and opened it to find Toadsworth, who was now visibly sweating.

"Toadsworth, do you realize what time it is?"

"I know, princess, but I figured you would want to hear this. A couple of Koopa Troopas came and said they had an important message. They claim that there will soon be an attack on the castle, and-"

"Tell them I will be downstairs immediately." As he ran off, she changed into some more proper clothing and made her way to the foyer, where Toadsworth and the Koopas, one red and one green, were now standing. "What is this about an attack?" She asked.

"Well, this is going to sound hard to believe, but-" The red one started.

"Bowser is alive..." The green one finished. Peach frowned.

"Impossible, there was no way he survived the volcano." The red one shook his head.

"It's true. A Goomba came and told all of the minions that Bowser had survived, and led most of them off to join him. Only a small handful of us stayed behind, and we were warned that we would be wiped out with the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom. We didn't know what else to do, so we came here to warn you first." Peach stood there for a moment, pondering the situation, before someone began pounding on the door.

"It's too late..." The green Koopa sighed.

"Guards!" Peach shouted. Immediately, several Toads swarmed into the room and began holding back the doors. "Toadsworth, get these two to safety. If Bowser really is behind this, he will not tolerate traitors."

"What about you?" He protested.

"I'll be right behind you. I need to help block the door. Now go! That's an order!" After only one more moment of hesitation, Toadsworth finally lead the Koopas to the basement. That was when the door finally burst open, sending the Toads flying across the room as Goombas and Koopas began to swarm the room. Soon, Peach was surrounded, and she could only watch as Bowser, alive and well, marched straight up to her.

"Why, hello, princess. Happy to see me?" She responded by spitting in his face, causing him to flinch as Bowser Jr. appeared at his side.

"Let's just get this over with. Where is the pipe to the Mario brothers?" Peach said nothing, vowing to not give anything away.

"She won't talk. Spread out and find that pipe! Then, bring the Mario brothers to me!" Bowser shouted. Peach could only watch as the soldiers spread out, now regretting her decision to not hide the pipe better.

Mario

Mario was also in bed, trying to get some sleep but feeling unable to. For some reason, he felt something was wrong, yet he couldn't put his finger on it. His feelings weren't eased when there was a knock at the door. Not the front door, the bedroom door.

"Luigi?" Mario whispered. His brother, however, was fast asleep, and showed no signs of waking up. Another knock, and this time Mario crept to the door. Against his better judgement, he slowly turned the knob. All he saw, however, was a yellow fist heading straight for his face before everything went black.
