CHAPTER 1 – THE BOX

I woke up with a gasp and lurched into an upright position. Where am 1? I thought. Actually who am I? My head throbbed and refused to give me answers. Why is this happening to me?

Ugh great. I now have a case of Amnesia, just great. Clutching my head, I rose from my sitting pose to feel for my surroundings. Yea, thanks for your help darkness. With that I reached forward to find out where exactly I was.

My hands poked and prodded at some mysterious things. Like logs, wooden crates, medical bandages, cardboard boxes, and clothing materials. But to the left side, I felt around and came across a sort-of metal cage. I could hear clucks and noises of animals. Who even keeps a chicken in this jail?

The box jerks faster and my body slams into the metal surface, hitting my head int the process. Black spots danced in my vision and I could feel my mind swirling and my body swaying. Just as the pain reached a crescendo, I was blown into a alternate reality.

"What have you done to him?" I demanded, my nostrils flaring.

"Nothing at all." A girl in front of me replied playfully, twirling her hair.

She had auburn hair spilling down her shoulders, a sharp jawline, high cheekbones, mischievous brown eyes, a lanky body, was about 187cm-I hate to admit it but she was obviously taller than me, a set of knives strapped around her waist and a long staff trailing down her spine.

"You're lying." I spat, fierceness lacing my voice.

"Am I?" she questioned, a grin playing on her lips.

"Stop playing around. What did you do to him." I cried, desperate.

"I did what I had to. There's nothing to stop it now." She answered coldly.

"Go back from where you came from you witch."

"If you say so." She echoed, receding into the shadows.

I groan and lift myself up again only to see bursting sunlight. I instantly throw my hands up to shield my face from the blinding light. Once my vision adjusted, I look to see about 20 boys around the age of sixteen circling the edge of the cage.

"What is going on?" I demanded, adding a vicious tone.

One of the boys drop in and lands with an 'oof'. I shrink away and cautiously watch my company.

"Bloody hell." The boy commented, eyes widening like saucers. "It's a girl."

Murmurs rippled through the crowd above us. I guess I have that effect.

"Is she hot?"

"I call dibs."

"Leave that poor greenie alone will ya?"

"Why does Newt get first looks?"

"Everyone slim it and shut your holes." A deep voice instructed, causing legit everyone to close their gaping mouths. A dark-skinned boy pushed his way through the crowd and leaned over only to extend his hand over the cage.

"My name's Alby, welcome to the glade." He introduced. I clasped his hand and shook it firmly.

"The name's Newt." The boy in the cage gestured.

He had short cropped blonde hair, a chiseled jawline, was quite lanky and had some muscle. He wore typical teenager clothes like a sweatshirt, cargo pants and a light jacket tied around his waist. But what amazed me was his eyes. The kindness in them was just so…captivating. Wait, now I sound like an idiot. Get a grip on yourself. Ugh, nice going Sydney. Wait what? I gave a sort-of strangled cry of joy and thrusted my hands victoriously. Newt looked down at me strangely, before asking what my name was.

"It's Sydney." I replied, happiness leaking in my voice.

"Wait, like the Sydney Opera House?" Newt chuckled.

"Yes dummy." I said, rolling my eyes. "Now get me outta here."

"Bring the ropes." Newt called, waving his hands to lower them down. Thick rough ropes tumbled down and dropped to the floor, a metal thud echoing down below. Gripping with my hands tightly, I pulled myself up and over the cleanly cut metal. A second later, Newt popped up and bounced over the edge.

I looked at the area surrounding me. Fields of bright green roamed the lands with a few huts, gardens, and buildings. I noticed the Glade was split into 4 sections. A place with a ton of trees-a forest I assume took up about a third of the area, a place of mist and hostile air lingered hauntingly with swaying trees, the usual buildings, land and huts, and the enormous slabs of concrete encasing us from the outside world.

What in the world is that?

Wow! This is my first fanfiction and I'm a legit fan of The Maze Runner. I know this story may seem boring but pls continue reading! For the future storyline, I'm gonna be including a bit of romance to hype things up. Guess you already know who...
