Chapter 1: Beginnings
I awake face first on something soft. I sit up, it looked like a couch, but not quite. I don't remember falling asleep here. All I remember is getting home from work. I was thinking about picking up an old book series or play a old game of mine. However when my body hit the bed, I was out.
'That's it...hmm. I wondered where am I?' I proceed to stand up and look around, it seems like a lounge of some sort. I feel relaxed and some type of peace. I don't know why. I continue to explore and find a bar with a wall of all different types of drinks. Some I recognize, some just seem very interesting, while others have different languages on the labels. The labels look out of this world.
I sit down at the bar, I take another look around the entire place. It's like blue, but I can't describe the proper color. The walls are similar to the velvet room from the Persona series.
"Well hello human, welcome to my bar what can I get you?"
I jump, not expecting a voice. It sounded warm, nice and playful. I look in the direction of the voice. I look to see a man, he's tall and looks about 6'9, intimidating as hell, muscular, his hair a fiery red, eyes a bright golden. I felt somewhat at a lost for words. It took a bit of concentration but I broke out of my trance. I respond.
"Anything? hmm...well, how about a vanilla milkshake if you don't mind."
He smiles "Of course, anything does mean anything." He snaps his fingers and one appears.
I'm surprised this person just summoned a fucking milkshake. I grab the drink and taste it. The drink was delicious. I proceded to hungrily drink the vanilla goodness. it's been forever since I had one. I look at the man, embarrassed. I clear my throat and try to spark conversation.
"If I may ask, where am I? I don't remember coming her, but here I am."
The man smiled even wider. "Well that can easily be answered.You may be wondering why I brought you here, well, that's because I wanted to. For a good reason; I was bored."
"You were bored?" I say surprised and a little scared. "So you basically kidnapped me with no reason then because you were fucking bored. what the fuck ma.." before I could finish my sentence, a wave of calmness washed over my body. My mind tried it's hardest to warn me, but couldn't.
"Wellhuman, it seems you're calmed again. I'm glad I put those spellson you before you woke up. I have layered special spells here to make sure you stay calm and collected and think straight.You would fall into you emotions and risk not thinking clearly if I didn't. I will need you to be calm enough." he says quietly, "Anyway human, yes I was bored and I decided to pluck a human soul and give it a chance to truly live. See here,I've seen your life and its not that interesting if you ask me.I brought you here to give you a chance to live anew, to experience something exciting. Would you accept my offer?" The man smiles again, not a friendly smile like before. This smile was more menacing, like I was his prey who played into his hand.
I began to think about my life. It's a bit dull, my only joy in life was video games and rereading my old favorite novels. I had no family, no friends, I had no special relationships. I was alone in the world. Living like a zombie, but now I get a chance of a lifetime. Like every prodigy in the books I read as a teen. My body shook with excitement, but I stared into the man's golden eyes and say.
"Before I accept, I want to know what this whole 'chance to truly live' stuff."
"It would be a pleasure to help you understand. I would give you a 'Gift' and put you in a world of your choosing. I will watch over so you won't do anything, if certain divine godstry to fuck with you I will help with that.So you don't have to worry much about things like that.Now human, will you accept?" The man reaches out his hand. I stare at it and I shakingly take his hand, but slowly shake it.
The air around us seem to distort. The man started to glow with a golden aura and his eyes glow brighter and brighter. I can practically feel his power, the energy. It feels like I'm looking into a endless ocean seeing no end to it. I feel something enter me, it slowly starts to warm up more and more to the point its burning. The burning spread to my whole body. It felt like my body was thrown in a fire, like I was being burned alive. I held in my screams trying my hardest to think of anything other than the pain. Suddenly everything stops, the pain, the burning. The man lets go of my hand and I feel better, energized like I can take on a marathon.
"I just granted you championship, just in case those divine try anything funky. I'm sorry I haven't told you my name yet haven't I, well it's Kane.Only Kane what about you. Human?" Kane smiled in satisfaction.
"My name is Rowan. So what now?" I ask.
"Well, you choose you're gift and any world or universe you want. Anything is possible." He answers.
"Well my gift, is it possible to have the Sparda bloodline? And have the inheritance of the Dark Slayer himself? I just need Yamato and that's all I would need for where I'm going." I say while going in to finish my drink.
"Truly huh?A bloodline, a inheritance and a blade that one of the strongest sword's in Devil May Cry?Ok then, I shall grant you this wish.So human,I'm guessing you already know the world you want to go to. It must be something good if you need these items." Kane says while pouring himself a drink. Which is green.
'Really, where the hell does he get these drinks from?'
I wait until Kane's done. When he's finished, our eyes meet and I say "The world I want is Shin Megami Tensei 4" We both stare at each other. I wait for his response.
"Are you sure that's the world you want? Ifyou're not careful you can be killed depending on where you start. The only way Flynn and his friends actually survived at all is because the Axiom made sure they did.Since Flynn was a Messiah and his friends were destined to be vessels of Lucifer and Merkabah, as well there's Stephen.There are only a few in that universe that can truly fuck up things.There are the ones if truly needed I will assist you but the rest you can deal on your own. Depending on how long you wanna stay there. You willalso need to be careful around the white divines powers, the so called God there, Dagda is another dangerous being. If you truly want to go just be very careful of who you piss off.Remember only the dangerous divine or anything else similar I will intervene, if necessary. So do you still truly want to go there?"
I think about his explanations carefully. Yes, there were a lot of dangerous people, demons, even gods. However it's the best starting point if I play my cards right. I can get incredibly strong at a good pace.
I look at Kane with all the seriousness I could muster, "Yes, this is the world I have chosen. I understand the dangers of it, but I am willing to take the chances. If I plan right and play my cards accordingly. I can get incredibly strong and if what I plan to do successfully happens then, yes. This is the world I choose."
He responds with a sigh, "Okay then." Kane lifts his fingers ready to snap me into my absolute fantasy. Then, I quickly say something to stop him. He looks at me, waiting to know why he was stopped.
"Wait, I have some questions you need to answer. Like, What are you? What is this place? Why did it burn when you shook my hand? As well what you mean by 'Champion'" I ask all the questions I needed answered since he told me everything.
Kane watches me with that smile agin. It sent chills up my spine."I will answer you're questions. Number 1, What am I am is something similar to a divine being of pure power but I'm like a very old.Powerful, but bored after exploring everywhere and acquired everything.Like the drinks you see on the wall. The drinks were nice to get. 2, This place is my realm, my bar, where I live and drink. And just basically be at peace, but since I can't stand how quiet things are anyway. 3, Why? I was inserting my energy, my very essence into you're body. Of course It was going to hurt and I was marking you as my champion.That leads into the 4th question 'what is a champion?'It means what it says; your my champion, my very first actually.It was necessary to make to sure I know what's happening with you and such.It also boosts certain things, like you're reaction time and affinity with certain magic's.Also apparently it gives you golden eyes which is another clear mark you're mine. Well that's enough questions, see you around buddy" Kane snaps his fingers before I can stop him.
I felt like I'm falling in a never ending void and felt like I was burning alive again. The pain got worse when it felt like I was being ripped apart piece by piece. I couldn't handle it anymore and blacked out, The pain finally began to fade. Much to my relief….
