I do not know own Inuyasha or any rights to it, and I don't make any money from this. I also got this story's idea from another Inuyasha fanfiction website. It is no longer on the website and I have contacted the writer. This is my version based on that story because I loved it so much. I just hope I do it justice.

We start our story at a very nice restaurant called Rose. It is Friday night at dinner time. Currently there are couples eating and talking. There are a few families having dinner as well. All having a great time, well except for one person.

Kagome is waiting impatiently for the person to come and meet her. She is tapping her finger on the table. She is looking at the other couples and families in envy.

Kagomes thinks to herself "I can't believe this… What I would not give to have the money, the happiness these people have…but that it is not in my cards, but at least I have Shippo. If it was not for him I don't know what I would do…. Everything I do... I do for him"

Kagome grabs a breadstick and breaks it apart just to get some frustration out of her system.

"My poor Shippo, he has been through so much in such a small amount of time, and does his so-called father care? No, he does not care that Shippo has a heart condition and needs to see the doctor at least once a week. All Shippo wants is to meet him at least once. Would that be too much to ask?"

Kagome feels a hand on each of her shoulders and then hears a voice of a man that she hated "Hello Kagome" the man says and goes to kiss her on the cheek and then goes to the chair on the other side of the table. While not watching Kagome wipes her cheek, "I hope you weren't waiting too long" the man continues while looking at Kagome in a loving way.

"I just got here Hojo…but to talk before we start, I want to talk about Shippo"

Hojo looks up from the menu he was reading "Is he alright?" he says with fake concern

"He is as well as he could be bu.."

"Then there is nothing to talk about" he looks back at the menu "I hear the fish is amazing"

"But Hojo, Shippo may be well now. I just know if you just met him even once it would make his day"

Hojo puts the menu down and looks at Kagome "You know I can't do that, what would Ami think? What would my colleges think? Honestly, Kagome just what are thinking?"

"I'm thinking about Shippo, that's all I think about, and I know he needs his father. He is just so sick I just do not know…. I just don't know how long he.. he has left"

"I don't think visiting him will help anything so just drop it ok"

"No, I will not! This is your child Hojo and you're treating him like a used napkin"

"Kagome I am warning you; people are looking at us. And if you don't stop right now and behave I have half a mind to stop all payments altogether"

Kagome lets out a gasp and looks at Hojo. She tries to calm down and tries not to cry. She takes deep breaths and reminds herself that this is for Shippo.

"Please Hojo, I won't mention it again just don't stop paying"

Hojo reaches over to Kagome's hand "There now that's better. I have not done anything yet… all I ask is for you to come to these dinners every now and again and your payments will still be there" Hojo starts to rub his thumb over Kagomes hand and leans over towards her to whisper, "Of course I could be persuaded to give you more if you are willing to spend some more time together alone that is"

Kagome takes back her hand as if it was on fire "I will do no such thing"

"Too bad then, the normal amount then?"

"Hojo what you give us is not nearly enough as it is… if you could give us more..."

"And what would I get in return Kagome? I need some attention too you know"

"You know all my attention goes to either work or Shippo, I barely have enough time for that"

"Then make time, all I'm asking is for a little alone time"

"What about Ami?"

Hojo shakes his head and has a small smile on his face "Oh Kagome, she is no problem… she was just a means to an end, you just say the word and I'm a free man"

"Hojo I can't believe what I'm hearing"

Hojo takes a sip of his wine and shrugs his shoulders "Believe what you want, it does not stop the fact that I want you, you know it, I know it… so stop worrying about the kid and just be with me"

Kagome has had enough and moves her chair back "I am leaving Hojo"

"Then it's the normal amount"

Kagome looks back at Hojo with a disgusted look on her face and storms off.

Hojo smiles and looks at the menu and starts to talk to himself "Oh Kagome you will soon realise what I have known all along that you belong with me and in my bed"

Kagome leaves the restaurant and starts to look for her wallet to make sure she had money for a taxi when she realises that she has left her wallet at home… again… Luckily she has some coin for at least a couple of calls. Kagome calls her friends Miroku and Sango who are looking after Shippo for her. After a couple of rings Sango picks up.

"Hello, Higurashi residence Sango speaking"

"Hey Sango, it's Kagome"

"Kagome… you're calling early, is everything alright?"

"Yea… just another lovely night with shit bag… How's Shippo?"

"Shippo is fine, he had small attack b…"

"Is ok? Did he take his medicine? How is his breathing?"

"Calm down Kagome, he is fine, said his heart hurt so we gave him some meds and that helped. He is back asleep… although he did ask for you"

"Well I shall be home soon. Could you do me a favour? I left my wallet at home could you get Miroku to come down and I'll pay him back later?"

"Of course, I'll tell him to come down - in what 30 mins?"

"Yea that would be great thanks"

"No biggie, be safe girl and see you soon"

"Thanks again, see you soon"

Kagome ends the call and then calls for a taxi. As she waits for a taxi, its starts to rain so she runs under cover which happens to be beside a restaurant.

As she waits she hears a groan coming from the alleyway. Kagome turns and looks down the alleyway. She shields her eyes to try to see through the rain and the darkness. She sees a dark figure slumped on the ground near a dumpster.

Kagome stays near the end of alleyway "Hello, can you hear me?"

The figure moves slightly but does not speak "Do you need help?" Still nothing. So, Kagome looks around and sees no one else around so she goes to the figure.

Once she can see the figure more clearly she notices it's a half demon, with long silver hair and triangular ears on the top of his head. This half demon is wearing a black jacket and a nice red shirt underneath with black pants. He has a few bruises on him but nothing serious.

Kagome gets closer "Hello, can you hear me" The demon opens his eyes slightly and reaches out for Kagome "Kikyo, it's you, immm sorry on leav.. immm sorr" he said in slur

Kagome takes her arm back and waves it back and forth from her face "Well this one had too much to drink" Kagome crouches and looks for a wallet but finds none "Well I can't just leave you here now can I?" Kagome gets lower and puts one of the arms of the demons over her shoulder and brings him up and slowly out of the alleyway.

He falls a couple of times but Kagome manages to get him out.

After another minute or two the taxi comes to pick them up and to take them back.

Once there Miroku is waiting for Kagome with an umbrella. Kagome tells the taxi driver that the man outside has the money, so she and the taxi driver get the demon out of the car and Miroku looks at the two and takes out the money for the driver with a bit extra for the help.

Miroku takes it over to the driver and says to Kagome "Another one Kagome"

"Yep, found this one in ally no id or anything. I could not just leave him Miroku"

They start to head inside the compound to go to the apartment "But a half demon Kagome, he will heal in no time"

"I know but still I would not be able to sleep if I left him there Miroku"

"You have a heart of gold Kagome, just be careful ok"

"I won't don't you worry"

"That's what friends are for, worrying"

"Thanks, Miroku"

They then reach the apartment and place the demon on the couch. Kagome looks towards Shippo's room as Sango comes in from the kitchen and sees the demon on the coach.

"Oh, Kagome another one huh?"

"Yes Sango, another one… how's Shippo?"

"Still sleeping"

Kagome nods her head, "keep an eye out for me will ya? I'm just going to check on Shippo"

Both Miroku and Sango nod their heads and watch her leave.

"I know one of these days her good heart is going to cause trouble" said Sango

"I know dear, but we know we would not want her to be any other way, right?"

Sango smiles at her husband "Your right…I'll go make some coffee for this one"

With Kagome and Shippo, Kagome opens the door and sees Shippo on his belly and his head to the side with the blanket almost off him. Kagome shakes her head at the sight but still has a small smile on her face. Kagome makes her way over to Shippo to place the blanket back on him. As she enters the room she notices a few toys on the floor so she picks them up to put them away.

As she places the blanket over Shippo, Shippo moves around and wakes up. He rubs his eyes and sees Kagome next to the bed.

Shippo lets out a yawn "Hey Kagome"

Kagome reaches over and brushes the bangs out of Shippo's face "hey buddy, sorry to wake you"

"Its…. Ok I wanted to see"

"You did?"

Shippo nodded his head "Yeah, Sango made her pancakes, they were yucky"

"That bad huh?"

"Yea"

Kagome looks over Shippo "I heard you had another attack"

"Yea, I had another dream… it was scary"

"Do you want to tell me about it"

"ok, I was having the surgery, but the doctor… (Shippo starts to cry) the doctor was taking me way… he…sa…said… that it was…my time... I tried to find you… I couldn't find you… the doctor keeps on chasing me... and…and..."

Kagome sits next to Shippo on the bed and gives him a big hug and tries to comfort him by rubbing his side "Shh...shh... Shippo, I'm here, shh…take a deep breath in and out… that's it….I'm always here for you and you know you have people around you that will be there for you as well"

"Like… Miroku and Sango….and Kaede"

The two of them sat in silence for a while "Now do you feel better?" Kagome felt a nod on her tummy. "Can I listen to your heart?" Kagome feels another nod.

Kagome moves to make room for Shippo to lay down. Kagome pulls up Shippo's pj top and places her ear on his chest and hears a thump…thump…thump. Once she is happy with what she hears she sits up and gives Shippo a big smile. "Yes, that is a strong heart indeed"

Shippo smiles to Kagome "Kagome, can you sing to me?"

"Sure thing kiddo the usual?"

"Hm" Shippo said as he nods his head

"alright, all nice and snug? (Kagome clears her thoughts) *I don't own this song* You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are grey, so please don't take my sunshine away"

Just as she finishes the song Shippo closes his eyes and falls asleep.

Kagome watches him for a little longer and leaves the room. As she closes the door she hears voices coming from the living room.
