A/N: Hi everyone, I got this story in the works and decided to publish the first chapter. I hope you all enjoy it!
A/N: I figured putting a fair amount of dialogue would make sense as Kellyn and Kris haven't met...plus there isn't any fanfics with either of them interacting!
Kellyn and Kris: A New Friend
Kris listened to the sound of the Magnet Train, which was taking her from Johto to Kanto. Two weeks ago, Gold and Kris had met up upon her arrival, with Kris eager to announce her attraction to him. Unfortunately…Gold had rejected her and it hit Kris hard, so she decided to take a stroll through the region…despite it occurring some time ago, Kris was a bit happy to be somewhat over it. The two bid each other farewell around an hour ago and Kris didn't mind getting a chance to relax. The train door to her right opened, which surprised her a little, as this was the very last train car and usually people just stayed in their seats for the ride, which would take about six hours between the two regions.
Entering the car was a tall, suave looking man, wearing a slight variation of the uniform Pokémon Rangers would wear, as well as a red backpack. The Top Ranger looked around the train car for a bit as a few of the passengers began to whisper, as Kris noticed his sharp blue eyes and spiky brown hair.
"Oh my…isn't that Kellyn? The Top Ranger who saved Almia?" A woman asked.
"It…it is him! Wow…he's tall and handsome!" Another woman said.
Kris saw that both women were in fact right and she blushed upon gazing at him. A quick observation made Kris notice Kellyn standing at an impressive six foot five, with his clean shaven face further drawing attention to his dazzling eyes. Despite being famous, Kellyn was a timid one, even refraining from interacting with any of the other passengers, though that was mainly due to the fact that every seat was filled. The last thing Kellyn would want to do is ask anyone to make space for him, so he walked through the entire train in the hopes that at least one seat was empty.
'Geez, Kellyn really is quite handsome, is he looking around for someone? I wonder why he's observing the area so intently.' Kris thought as Kellyn soon approached her seat.
The Top Ranger was trembling ever so slightly as he attempted to make eye contact with Kris, only to look away upon nearly being successful.
"Um…excuse me…" Kellyn said.
Kris looked at Kellyn and smiled, a faint blush rising to both of their faces, even as his eyes quickly averted from Kris's gaze.
"Yes? Do you need something?" Kris asked as Kellyn gulped.
"W-well ma'am…I was wondering if I could sit next to you since there aren't any other seats around. I don't have an issue with standing but it's been quite a long day for me." Kellyn said.
"Of course, I'd be delighted to. You don't have to be so formal sir, the name's Kris!" Kris said as Kellyn chuckled before sitting down next to Kris.
"Thanks, my name's Kellyn, nice to meet you!" Kellyn said as Kris smiled at him, making both male and female passengers alike grumble in envy of her.
To make the situation even more endearing, the two of them had a faint blush on their faces as Kris tried to initiate a conversation.
"Well Kellyn, what brings you to Kanto? It's pretty peaceful here compared to a few years ago when Team Rocket was running amok." Kris said as Kellyn leaned a bit closer to her, making the woman blush slightly.
"I figured I just needed a bit of a vacation and try to unwind a bit from Ranger duties…despite me still wearing my uniform." Kellyn said.
"Hmm, that's it? Doesn't seem like much of a vacation to me, that would be like me travelling to Almia wearing my lab coat!" Kris said as Kellyn grinned.
"I guess you're right about that…and…a lab coat? That sounds cool, are you a professor's aide?" Kellyn asked.
"Heheh…yeah I am, it's something I really love, though most of my friends don't really think what I do is cool. They just think it's boring and lame for a twenty two year old like me to be doing field work for Professor Oak." Kris said as Kellyn arched an eyebrow.
"Really? I think your job is seriously awesome, I mean, I'm twenty three and I understand how you love what you do…some of my Top Operator buddies think what I do is dull, but they're in front of a couple of monitors for most of the day! I don't know…you get to study Pokémon habitats, behaviors, the ways they interact with any opposing tribes…I think that's anything but boring…do you have any stories to tell?" Kellyn asked.
'This is the first time anyone's been interested in what I do…even Blue and Green could care less about the various research findings I've done. Besides…mom did always say to find someone with similar interests…maybe I should tease Kellyn just a little to see if he's really intrigued…he's so polite...' Kris thought.
"I have one or two…but I'm sure you wouldn't want to hear them anyways…they're really nothing special!" Kris said.
"Oh come on Kris…pretty please?" Kellyn asked as he pouted and pleadingly looked at Kris.
'Gah…he looks really cute doing that…I don't think I can handle such cuteness any longer!' Kris thought.
"Since you insist…I guess I'll tell you one of them…" Kris said as Kellyn gleefully hugged her, making her blush.
"Yes! That's what I'm talking about! Go on, tell me your story, I'm all ears." Kellyn said.
"Well, this actually happened recently…just a couple of weeks ago, I was by Blackthorn City trying to clear my head after…after…I got rejected by someone I had a crush on. It's kind of funny thinking back on it…" Kris said.
"Kris…I don't think you being rejected is funny at all…it's just downright miserable…" Kellyn said.
"I appreciate your words Kellyn, but I'm certain a guy as great as yourself hasn't been rejected as harshly as I have…" Kris said as Kellyn frowned.
'Aww, he looks so sad…nice job Kris, why did you blurt that out?!' Kris thought.
"Actually…I have…if you don't want to share your experience then I definitely understand that." Kellyn said.
"I'm…I'm sorry for assuming…I'll be more than happy to share the more…cheerful side of my story and then I'll talk about the rejection. If you'd like then you can share yours. Would that be okay with you?" Kris asked as Kellyn gave a slight smile and nodded before leaning closer.
"Good…looks like someone's eager! So, after taking a stroll around Blackthorn City, I encountered a cluster of Hoothoot and Stantler having a standoff about four feet apart. I thought that this was really cool because I've never known Stantler or Hoothoot to interact before, so I quickly got out my Pokégear to take down information. But surprisingly…the two different species weren't actually about to fight like I initially thought." Kris said.
"Woah…what happened next?" Kellyn asked as Kris grinned.
"What happened next was…really interesting, as the Hoothoot all landed on the antlers of the bigger Pokémon and they walked off looking relaxed and at peace. I know it wasn't a crazy story with any fighting but…I thought it was cool." Kris said.
"Seriously? That's…one of the most informative stories I've ever heard of! Who cares if it doesn't have fighting? The fact that you recorded information about two groups of Pokémon that were previously stated to have little to no interaction with one another in books is just…outstanding!" Kellyn said as Kris blushed.
"I-If you think it's that great…maybe I can give you my Pokégear number so I can talk about different research stories with you?" Kris asked as Kellyn took out his Pokégear and input his number.
"There, now I'm registered in your Pokégear, call me whenever you'd like!" Kellyn said.
"I definitely will, by the way Kellyn, I'm curious, would you mind sharing your story of rejection? You did say you would but if you changed your mind then I completely get it." Kris said.
"No no, it would be better for me to talk about it…so my story is a bit simple, a couple of weeks ago, I had finished up my Ranger duties and decided to ask out a close friend of mine named Rhythmi. I knew her since Ranger School and thought that even if she wasn't interested, we could still be friends and maybe even joke about it. But…when I bumped into her at the Ranger Union and asked her out for a date…she just…laughed at me. Not like a shy laugh as if to say, wow, someone's asking me out…but it was more or less laughing in my face from my attempt." Kellyn said.
"Geez…that's horrible. Maybe it'll cheer you up if you hear my story…a few weeks ago, I was done with my usual researcher work and met up with Gold, a friend that I've known for years. After we greeted one another…I got the courage to ask him out…only to get rejected, albeit a bit nicer than how Rhythmi did it to you…but then I found out he was dating another friend of mine. It hit me like a ton of bricks, so I came to Johto for a short while to calm my nerves…and now I'm heading back to Kanto." Kris said as she began to sniffle, the weight of being rejected by someone so close to her finally hitting her.
Soon enough, Kris put her head in her hands and began to cry, which made Kellyn rush into action and give her a much needed hug. Eventually, Kris's crying ceased as she wiped her face from any additional tears.
"There…is that better?" Kellyn asked as Kris nodded.
"Yes, thank you, I needed that." Kris said as Kellyn released his grip on her.
"No problem, now, let's talk about something more uplifting, shall we?" Kellyn asked.
"I'd…I'd like that." Kris said.
In no time, the minutes and hours began to fly by as Kris and Kellyn began talking about their various stories throughout the years. The two bonded and now knew one another rather well as the loudspeaker buzzed.
"Attention passengers, we will now be arriving at Saffron City. We hope you enjoyed travelling with us." The announcer said.
"Aw…I'm at my stop already, at least I have your number to call you whenever!" Kris said.
"Your stop's at Saffron City too? Oh man, that's awesome, I'm staying at the hotel that's there!" Kellyn said.
"You mean the really glamorous hotel by Silph Co.? Oh man, that place is ritzy…" Kris said as the train slowed to a stop, allowing the two to get off the train.
"Heh, yeah it is pretty nice, I figured I'd spoil myself just a little." Kellyn said as the two departed the train station.
"Good, it's always nice to treat yourself once in a while. I see the hotel coming up, you want me to walk you there? It's already pretty late." Kris said as Kellyn opened his Ranger jacket, revealing six Pokéballs.
"Don't worry, I can handle anyone who would try to harm me…but…I could use the extra company." Kellyn said.
"Wow, most of the Pokémon Rangers around here train their Pokémon, but usually they have three or four of them around their waists. Did you train them yourself?" Kris asked.
"You better believe I train these Pokémon myself, it's hard work but I enjoy doing it!" Kellyn said as they soon reached the hotel.
"It's good to know someone takes Pokémon training even more seriously than I do, most people just put their Pokémon in the daycare…oh man…we're already at the hotel." Kris said as Kellyn sighed.
"That's a shame but don't despair, if you're free tomorrow…maybe we could hang out?" Kellyn asked as Kris smiled.
"I'd love to! Well then, looks like I'll be heading to my house to get my beauty rest, good night Kellyn!" Kris said.
"Good night Kris, see ya tomorrow!" Kellyn said as the two parted ways.
Kris soon reached her home after a short five minute walk, entering quickly as she kicked off her shoes, closed the door and went to her bedroom. Once she was there, she looked at the time, noticing that it was already fifteen minutes to ten P.M. While Kris didn't go to sleep early thanks to her work as an assistant, she was quick to head to bed in no time, as she was eager to spend tomorrow with Kellyn. As the young woman changed into her pajamas and got into bed, she got a call on her Pokégear…confused, she look at who it was and saw that it was…Kellyn. Worried that something happened, Kris picked up right away as she heard Kellyn breathe a sigh of relief.
"Kris, sorry for calling so late…after I waited a while for someone to help me at the front desk, I was informed that my reservation was given to another guest. To make matters even worse, they don't even have any other rooms free in the hotel. What do I do?" Kellyn asked.
"I'll be there soon, stay right there Kellyn!" Kris said as she put her shoes on and locked the door before running all the way to the hotel.
Within a matter of minutes, Kris was at the hotel and soon made her way inside, where the receptionist was informing Kellyn that once again, no rooms were available.
"Sir, what I'm simply asking for is a refund, I get that there aren't any free rooms at the moment, even though I did the reservation for it ahead of time…but the fact that you're refusing to give a refund is absurd." Kellyn said as the receptionist crossed his arms.
"I'm sorry, but management says to not give any refunds for any reasons, even if it's due to an error on our part." The man said as Kris approached the two.
"Excuse me, can you give my friend his money back? I know how expensive this hotel is so I'd really like you to help me out." Kris said as the receptionist sighed and opened the till next to him, giving Kellyn his twenty thousand Pokédollars back.
"Here…sorry about that." The receptionist said as the two left, not wanting to say anything to the rude man.
"Thank you Kris, I got my money back with your help but…I still don't have a place to sleep tonight. Aha, I know, I'll get some coffee and do some patrols around here!" Kellyn said.
"No way, don't do that! How about you stay at my place?" Kris asked as Kellyn blushed a deep shade of red.
"You…you'd be okay with that? Really?" Kellyn asked.
"Definitely, now c'mon, let's get going!" Kris said as the two walked back to her house.
'What a wonderful person she is, no one aside from my mother would do something so kind for me.' Kellyn thought as he focused on Kris's pajamas, which were blue and adorned with Pokéballs.
"Heh, nice pajamas, I got ones just like them in my bag." Kellyn said as the two reached Kris's house.
"Looks like you got some great taste in pajamas then!" Kris said as Kellyn chuckled.
Kris unlocked the door and she and Kellyn entered inside, soon removing their shoes and heading to her bedroom.
'Yeesh, this must be a bit embarrassing for Kellyn…two of my rooms are for storing medical supplies and food for my Pokémon and I can't have him sleep in my bathroom or kitchen! Hopefully he won't think I'm weird or anything.' Kris said as she opened her bedroom door.
"U-um…this is your room…right? So that means…we'll…we'll be sleeping in the same room…won't that feel weird for you?" Kellyn asked as Kris got out an inflatable bed.
"Well…it may sound strange but…I've felt more safe around you. I personally don't mind." Kris said as she got into her bed.
"I'm glad to hear that, er…let me get changed!" Kellyn said as he went into his backpack and got an identical pair of sleeping clothes.
Kellyn hurried into Kris's bathroom that was facing the back wall, soon coming out a few minutes later.
"Wow, we look like twins!" Kris said as Kellyn climbed into bed and took off the light.
"Huh…we really do, well, good night twin, I'll be seeing you in the morning!" Kellyn said as Kris smiled.
"Good night Kellyn, have a good rest!" Kris said as the two soon fell asleep.
Somewhere in Kanto, a group of nefarious people were plotting and planning something dangerous…however, their leader, a terrifying man, knew of Kellyn's presence in Kanto, making him shudder.
