Author's Note I do not own Percy Jackson or any of the Percy Jackson characters. I am just a fan in love with the series. The Greek myths in this story are also false I unlike Rick Riordan do not have the time or talent to research and modernize Greek myths.
CHAPTER ONE
Percy's POV
I am already having a terrible day; something went wrong during Driver's Ed in school causing me to be relieved from for the day. Let's just say it had something to do with a loose wig and a banana peel in the middle of the road. How the hell was I supposed to know that Mrs Brown had cancer and was hiding it with a wig, and to make matters worse there was a storm coming , an unnatural one at that.
Without much of a second thought, I duck into the Northwest hotel and immediately feel out of place amongst the plush sofa's and the ivory pillars. I try to shrink into my hoodie, and kick at my battered converse. But to no avail. I still feel like an outsider. As if mirroring my thoughts the concierge gives me a disgusted look, he was probably wondering what a guy like me was doing in a place like this.
"Excuse me, sir, Do you have a reservation?" he calls out, and I can just sense in his tone the joy it will bring him to push me back out onto the sidewalk and into the pouring rain. Honestly, it will be his loss; I am probably the most interesting thing to happen to him all day.
Back to reality; I stutter as I scramble for a reply. "W-well actually…"
"He's with me", a confident voice echoes from behind me.
Now the concierge turns scarlet. Is that embarrassment, serves him right.
"And I would like an apology for you being rude to my guest", the voice says again shrouded in authority.
"I'm sorry Ms Northwest", the once bold concierge seems to have turned into a mouse.
Northwest. I felt my heart plunge into my stomach, boy am I in trouble now.
"Apologize to my guest" I promise I hear a smile.
"I'm sorry Mr…" the concierge looks at me, terrified and regretful, searching for a name
"Jackson"
"I'm sorry Mr. Jackson" the concierge meekly repeats.
At this point all I feel is pity, I am sure this is not how he thought his day would go while he was sipping his morning cuppa and polishing his bald head.
"Come on Mr. Jackson" the girl says as she drags me behind her into the elevator.
Now that we are a lone I finally have a good look at her, my hero and she is beautiful, gorgeous even. Definitely one of the most stunning girls I have ever seen. She has raven black hair that flows from her head, to her shoulders and comes to an abrupt stop at her waist. Her eyes are black. Not black, just a deep blue that could be mistaken in the wrong light. The most peculiar thing about them is that they seemed to be riddled with flecks of gold like little lightning bolts.
"You know you should take a picture it'll last longer"
Once again I feel my cheeks warming up.
I hold my hand out to the beautiful stranger, forgetting how to speak once more.
"H-hi I'm Percy", well that was sad but she doesn't seem to notice.
Her hand stretches out to meet mine as she says, "I'm Bianca". She smiles, stretching out the freckles splattered onto her cheeks. Her Cartier bracelet jingles.
Suddenly, a bolt of electricity runs down my spine.
Pull yourself together I tell myself. At least act like you've seen a pretty girl before.
I jump when I hear the elevator ding, finally, a way out of this awkwardness. When the door opens I am met with money. Well the embodiment of money at least. We are in the penthouse and I have never seen anything like it before, except at Rachel's house but she was always kind of awkward about it, but Bianca on the other hand exuded the luxury around her.
"Back so soon I see and with another one of your boy toys" an older man says presumably her father
For what feels like the millionth time today I blush.
"Is she still here" Bianca says her tone harsh as steel.
"Your mother left in quite a huff this morning to the office presumably because of your fight"
"I don't want to talk about it" Bianca says icily. The thunder outside seemed to be echoing her tone.
"Well I'm off to work myself" he says leaving the building.
"Don't do anything I wouldn't do" he says as the elevator doors close.
Before I have another chance to blush she drags me into her room.
The room is bigger than the entire apartment I share with my mother.
"Make yourself comfortable" she says hopping onto the bed.
I have never felt more comfortable, comfortable enough that I almost moan as I sink into a soft bean bag chair. I play with the frays of her soft white carpet as I wait for someone to fill out the silence.
Finally she says "I'm sorry for the terrible first impression" smiling awkwardly,
"I'm not normally this rude but I had a terrible fight with my mother this morning.
"About whether to fly first class or private right" I say trying to lighten the mood.
She manages to crack a smile.
"Ugh, I hate when that happens" she says continuing the joke.
Now it's my turn to smile.
"No it was about my dad. That's all we ever fight about; I want to get to know him. He left when I was a baby, and I know I shouldn't want more than Steve he's been there for me my whole life but it's not enough you know."
Now it's Bianca's turn to blush, "I'm sorry I don't know why I'm telling you all of this"
"Some people say it's my eyes, they're very trust worthy" I joke
Bianca full on laughs at that.
"You're very funny Percy"
My name feels like air coming from her lips.
"I recently reconnected with my dad" I admit, preparing to take a deep dive into my confusing history.
Bianca smiles, "really, how was it like?"
"At first I was really mad at him for abandoning me but then I realized my anger was kind of a front for how much I really missed him"
Bianca nods as if she knows what I'm talking about.
Suddenly, when I look at her it doesn't feel weird or awkward, it's like we've known each other forever.
BRING BRING
Suddenly the phone rings destroying the moment. I feel around my pocket wondering why I there is a cell phone in there. It's Annabeth's phone. She's probably mad as hell that I have it. I feel a sudden rush of guilt as I realise that I haven't thought about her until now.
Then I realize how bad this may be phones are really bad for demi gods, they're like radios alerting monsters to our whereabouts. I internally scold myself as I recognise the dangerous situation I have put Bianca in.
"I have to go" I say suddenly getting up.
"Percy" she says seeming upset.
"Don't g..."
I never get to hear her finish her sentence as a huge meaty fist comes smashing through her window. A strong wind blows in, and I'm blasted to the other side of the room knocking out a million of Bianca's expensive pieces of decor.
"Percy?" she asked worried
Little icicles begin to appear on the floor between Bianca and the monster. "Are you okay?" she calls.
The creature creeps closer making strange buzzing noises. It opens its mouth to reveal rows and rows of jagged sharp teeth.
Bianca's mouth drops, too startled to let out a scream. Without a second thought, I uncap riptide. The beast in front of us is human sized, no larger than six feet and he has human arms and legs but that's where the similarities stop. His torso looks like melted tar. His head is like a giant insect covered with multiple antennae. One of the freakish hairs growing out of his body shoots towards us, barely missing Bianca. Before he has the chance to do it again, I attack him with my sword he quickly dodges. I hear buzzing but as I approach it begins to sound more like human speech.
"Two for the price of one," he mutters.
My confusion slows my attack. What could that possibly mean? Bianca then jabs him with the sharp end of her comb. He recoils in pain. I try to aim for his chest but I miss and get his shoulder instead. He buzzes in agony.
"Curse you son of Poseidon" he says as he lifts me up. Soon multiple insect like creatures start spilling out of the clouds.
"Let's feast on the son of Poseidon my brothers"
Suddenly the clouds let out a growl as if angry with the swarm. A strong wind attacks the insect holding him and myself in the process. Nervous the insect thing releases me.
I fall to the ground
The last thing I hear is Bianca screaming my name.
Bianca's POV
Just my luck when I find a cute boy, that's funny and can hold a conversation a giant insect man interrupts us.
"Percy" I scream.
I watch from the window as Percy begins to fall to the ground. Next thing I know, I am hurtling to the ground after him. I should be more scared as I am literally plunging towards my death, but somehow I feel safe, like I know the air will protect me. As I look down I see Percy getting nearer, and in an attempt at grasping straws I put faith in the wind that was protecting me a minute ago. The air around us seems to listen to me and slows down, slightly cushioning our landing. Hitting the ground was still really painful but at least we were alive.
"Percy" I gasp throwing my arms around him, relieved that we're actually safe.
The wind is suddenly calm and the storm above us has disappeared.
"That's funny" Percy says
"What's funny?" I ask.
"Nothing." Percy says looking at me weird.
I decide to brush it off.
"Percy what the hell was that thing"
The look on his face tells me I wouldn't believe him even if he told me.
Instead he says, "Bianca how am I not dead?"
"I don't know I just felt the air protect me and as crazy as it sounds I knew it was going to do whatever I said"
"Amazing I've got to get you back to camp"
I almost laugh, surely he's joking right.
"Aren't you a little too old for summer camp"
"It's not just a summer camp; it's to protect people like you and me from monsters like the one we just saw"
Only I would meet the cutest guy I'd ever seen in my life and he'd turn out to be a complete weirdo.
"The other guests at the hotel, He might go after them Percy we have to check on them"
He seems to scour the hotel looking for any signs of the monster, "Just as I suspected the storm sucked them in. Everyone's ok"
"Are you sure"
I ask again, "What were those things?"
Percy sighs deeply, "There were monsters. They kill demigods like you and me"
"Oh my God Percy you're actually crazy, I knew you were too cute to be true"
"Bianca I know you saw them too, this probably isn't the first time you've seen something like this either"
How could he possibly know about the similar insect like creature I saw last summer at my mother's beach house when I was 12 or the reptile like one that had come crashing through my classroom the year before that. Surely those were a hallucination that was what my therapist had told me. Percy was just crazy. But then what else could explain what just happened, how I had been able to soar through the sky like a bird.
"I believe you" she found herself saying.
Percy suddenly lets out a smile, and I feel my heart beat quicken. Control yourself Bianca.
"I gotta call Annabeth she's the best person for this. Smartest girl I know she can help you figure this out"
About thirty minutes later a black car comes speeding in with a strange man in the front and a blonde girl in the passenger seat.
"Why are you always getting into trouble seaweed brain?" she says in a harsh tone. She gives me a wary look like I'm already someone she doesn't trust.
"Percy who's this?"
Suddenly I feel like a stranger.
"Annabeth Bianca, Bianca Annabeth"
Neither of us seems too impressed with the other. Before I can say anything Annabeth heads into the back seat with Percy forcing me into the front with the stranger.
Am I crazy or is this man covered in a thousand eyes? As if reading my mind he winks at me.
I smile back at him.
"Pleasure to meet you Bianca Northwest at your service."
"This is going to be a long drive," Annabeth mutters behind me. It occurs to me that she and I will never be friends.
