Lance's POV

I sigh as Allura pacted me up. The amount of demons down here is getting worse and no one knows how to stop it. Alfor, Allura's dad and the leader of the shadowhunters here in Texas, has no idea what's going on. My soulmark tingled slightly. The phoenix covered most of my back. It was beautiful but I knew that it didn't match any of the other shadowhunters. I wish Allura was my soulmate. It would make things much easier. I love her and I know she likes me back. I secretly hoped I never met my soulmate. They are the reason I can't be with Allura.

"Lance! Get your head out of the clouds!" Pidge yelled. Allura moved away from me shaking her head. But I saw her smile.

"I'm sorry Pidge. I just can't help it." I said giving Allura a flirty look. She laughed, Pidge glared and Hunk rolled his eyes. That's when Alfor walked in.

"Good work team V. You guys managed to take out a good portion of the demons. But you can't rest yet you all still need to give your reports. When you guys are done come to the meeting room." He said before leaving.

"I hate meetings." I said, throwing myself backwards on to the bed.

"Come on Lance we got to go." Allura said. I got off the bed and the four of us headed to the meeting room. My parents, Alluras, Hunks, and Pidges were already there.

"Team V. Your report." Alfor said in his, I have authority, voice. Allura, being the leader of our team, told everyone everything that had happened.

"Father, the attacks are getting worse. The downworlders are starting to get involved." Allura said. I wanted to say that some downworlders didn't have a choice. But I knew that being friends and helping downworlders was considered taboo. So I stayed silent. They talked about how the downworlders could be involved with the demon attacks. I sighed.

"Lance, do you know of any uprisings in the downworlder community?" Alfor asked me. They all knew that I had downworlder friends.

I sat up and answered: "As far as I know the downworlders are scared of demons. (And of us. I wanted to add but didn't) I know they wouldn't want anything to do with demons."

"What about the warlock?" Allura's mom asked. I personally never meet the warlock. I have only heard stories about him from my friend Acxa. (Who is a young were-wolf.) But from what she told me he sounds nice.

"I don't think so." I said. "From what I've been told he mostly uses his magic to heal. I don't think he would use it to summon demons."

"From what you've been told? So you never met him?" My dad asked. He looked relieved when I said no. It's the one thing I hated about shadowhunters, they don't believe the downworlders. But thank the Angel they believe me. The meeting was finally over and we all were allowed to go to bed. I took a long shower loving the hot water. It helped the tingling feeling coming from my soulmark. I got out and put on some briefs and shorts. I looked in the mirror at my soulmark. I sighed at the sight. The phoenix was absolutely beautiful but I wanted a yin and yuan symbol like Alluras. I know one day I was going to have to get over it. Allura and I were going to meet your soulmates and she fall for him or her. I was never going to love someone I never met. I sat down on my bed and grabbed my phone. I saw that I missed a text from Acxa.

Acxa 4:00pm: What are you doing right now?

Lance 6:30 pm: Nothing, just got out of a meeting. You?

Acxa 6:31pm:Same. Meetings suck.

Lance 6:33pm: ...

Acxa 6:33pm: Lance, you okay?

Lance 6:36pm: It's just...I don't know.

Acxa 6:40pm: Call me?

I called Acxa and she answered right away.

"Okay what's up?" She asked.

"It's just...Some of the other shadowhunters are saying that the demon attacks are caused by downworlders. I told them that that's not possible, but I'm not 100% sure they believed me. I guess I'm just worried. You and the others are my friends too. You know?"

"Lance. Believe me when I say you are an amazing friend. An amazing shadowhunter and an amazing person all together. Everyone should be like you. And I know for a fact that all the downworlders are grateful to you." Acxa said.

"They even blamed the warlock." I told her.

"What? Keith? Na. He's sweet….sometimes. But he hates demons just as much as shadowhunters do."

"Keith?" I asked.

"Yep. That's his name. Anyway got to go. See you later Lance." Acxa said.

"See you." And with that I went to sleep.
